    "Stranger Busters". My favorite final Ghostbusters movie happens to be an interactive game: Ghostbusters: The Video Game (2009), by Terminal Reality. It is for all intents and purposes, Ghostbusters 3. Written by Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis, just like the original movies.. and voiced by the original actors, even Bill Murray showed up! :) The remaster is perfection.

    Thankfully they went with what they felt was best and what we got was very entertaining. I was thoroughly impressed with what we got. Good fun that takes the baton from it's predecessors and runs with it. It surprisingly managed to feel a bit like TAS "The Real Ghostbusters" they better better than I could do, and therefore you wont hear many complaints from me. I just wish we could have gotten an appearance from Louis. We miss you Rick!

    It's a shame this one seems to have taken a step back. I was really looking forward to it, and I did enjoy Afterlife. I am a big fan of the first two movies (I'm a big fan of the second movie, which I know a lot of people didn't love). My biggest hope for me with this one is that it would explore something new. Afterlife expanded on the original, in a way that I thought was good, but could have went further. It sounds like this one is doing something new, but maybe tried to go too far? Tried to explain/set up too much and left the jokes behind. I think the best part about Ghostbusters 2 (aside from Janosz), was that Vigo seemed like he was a real historical figure. Gozer did as well, but when I was a kid watching the second movie, I really felt like Vigo had almost a Dracula quality to him, where he was based on some real or at least a someone who was thought to be real, and they developed him in a pretty cool way. I hoped Frozen Empire would be able to do that here (and maybe they do), and then the hope for me would be that any sequels would do a really good job creating these new interesting villains going forward. To me that was always the interesting part, the history of the ghosts, etc. We always want to know why ghosts are haunting the houses they do etc, and so when Ghostbusters 2 developed Vigo, or even when it showed the Titanic docking, and the people getting off the boat as they would have, it gave us a bit of that.
    I still plan to check this out, but with expectations in check.

    My issue with both of the recent ghostbusters movies as a long time fan is the characters feel like they are on a ghostbusters ride at universal and not actually assuming the role.
    I thought the movie was ok, but I think a lot of us that grew up with the original need to realize is that something like stranger things does more in the way of giving us the same magic (80s nostalgia, spooky/horror/sci fi, and the characters themselves have a similar feel of distinct personalities in a little squad). I think that’s as close as we’re ever going to get to rekindling the same feeling we got and are chasing.

      That could’ve worked if they would’ve kept the dark cynical view of the World.. For instance, if afterlife would’ve opened up with the mom running All the licensing and distribution rights for the Ghostbusters merchandise and pretending to be a paranormal investigator. Well they didn’t believe in this stuff they were just trying to make a quick buck and then they accidentally run into a real ghost and have to rely on the old technology to help them survive. now an idea like that makes Sense because Ghostbusters was a dark, cynical comedy. It just was overshadowed by the comedic zaniness that was produced by the chemistry of the original Ghostbusters.

    The new Ghostbusters movies are about saving the world for the sake of saving the world. The original ghostbusters movies were about making a quick buck and accidentally saving the world in the process. If you get that wrong, you get Ghostbusters wrong, it’s really that simple.

    • @arrghhscott2785

      I see where you are coming from, but I feel the characters evolve by the end of the first movie to the point where they accept the mantle of hero, and no longer are in it for the money. I don't see how you could bring that plot thread forward to another movie without it just descending into parody.

    • @Chris-ot1ze
      @Chris-ot1ze 3 месяца назад

      @@arrghhscott2785 They did a good job with Ghostbusters two doing just that. They opened up, showing the Ghostbusters Just a few short years later, Humiliating themselves singing and dancing at birthday parties just to make a quick buck! So yes, it’s in the first two movies. How do you carry that over to afterlife? Easy open up with the Spangler Family managing the “Ghostbusters”
      distribution rights and hosting a paranormal talk show where they talk about ghost and pretend to be paranormal investigators but they’re really just scamming. Then they accidentally run into a ghost and have to rely on the old technology in order to survive the ghost attack. They end up surviving it but not trapping the ghost. Then the second one opens up And years have passed They’ve been tormented by this thing all these years. No one else can see it except for them, and no one believes them because they’ve lied about being paranormal investigators for so many years. then You reveal a connection between the Spangler family and the ghost and you’re off to the races. I’m just spit balling here based on what I’ve heard Critics say. If people can come up with this stuff on the spot, they can definitely come up with a much better script in the writers room. But they don’t have traditional writers rooms anymore these days, and they just take the passable story not the Amazing story because the execution might be wrong on an amazing story and it could turn out horrible and Hollywood Just doesn’t wanna take the chance anymore.

      @@arrghhscott2785 The second movie they open up with them, humiliating themselves, By singing and dancing at birthday parties. So I would disagree with you there. They obviously carried on the premise quite well. After life could’ve opened up with the Spangler family managing the Ghostbusters, distribution and Franchise, rights. Running it more like a paranormal investigation business. You could show them scamming people by setting up technology to make people believe they’ve seen a ghost. Then they accidentally run into a ghost well doing that and they have to rely on the old technology. Then, the second one opens up with them being tormented by the ghost.They are the only ones that can see them, and no one believes them not Even the original Ghostbusters because of all the years as scam artists . Having Ray make a offhanded comment About Egon not being proud of their family in the first one”Afterlife” and then when we meet them for the second one “frozen empire” Ray can make a comment about Egon being proud of them. That would’ve been Better than what we got. I’m not a writer I Just cobbled that together based on my understanding of what Ghostbusters is, and why adults left when we were laughing at the funny ghost. That’s the thing we’re looking at this through the eyes of nostalgia we need to cut through The nostalgia and demand better stories with our dollars.

    I just got back from watching it. I agree that Afterlife is the stronger movie, but I had a good time at Frozen Empire. Without any spoilers at all, I hope this is the last we see of the original cast as core characters. Maybe very brief cameos going forward, but let the new cast carry the movie. Bring back Patton as their ancient info guy, make James Acaster (who was hilarious! I love his stand up, and loved his character) the team Q (Bond, not Star Trek Next Generation 😅) and make the team just Phoebe, Trevor, Lucky and Podcast.

      I enjoyed Afterlife. I felt Frozen Empire was just meh. Not bad, not great. What sad is that I felt all the elements were there for a great film, the script and the execution just wasn't there. I think if they took more time on the script, had a few more revisions and edits, it could have been much better. It really needed to be tightened up quite a bit, and could have benefitted from some editing down of some parts and arguable a cut of some others.

    Ghostbusters Afterlife was mostly decent. Could've done without Podcast as everything out of his mouth was annoying and he just didn't seem like a believable character. I'm glad Frozen Empire has less Podcast, but he still exists and that makes me sad. Unfortunately the comedian guy who plays the Firemaster or whatever is the new Podcast in that everything he says is forced comic relief when it's not needed. Phoebe is the best character in both movies, perhaps the only good character. But less good in this movie. Whoever played her ghost friend was annoying from the get-go. The mini-Stay Pufts were far and away the worst part of Afterlife... why are they still here in this new movie? Because Ghostbusters needs brandable "Minions" that's why. I'm never a "fan" of fan service. Like the library ghost scene. Why is that there? Slimer is in there but again... just fan service. People actually like that? Dumb. If you're gonna put something in a movie, give it a reason to be there.
    Also none of the 5 or 6 thousand trailers in front of the movie featured an original IP. That's the state of movies today. Yeah I'm pretty grumpy whenever I go to a movie and get what I got.
