Jostens was my first job as a teenager and I learned the VALUE of working for a company that values educators, first hand for over 4 years. Now, as an enterpreneur and philanthropist ... this story still continues to leave a mark and serve as inspiration to PARK IT everyday Sappy or not, we can make a difference everyday and it starts with YOU committing to BE THE CHANGE you wish to see in the world.
My husband I loved this, we used to rehabilitate starfish along the North Carolinan coastline, and often children came and wanted to not throw the starfish into the sea. But then there was this one girl, my daughter, lets just call her 'Lady S', who stepped and did her part. Not for me, nor my husband (who I love very much), but 4 the starfish. "There's a starfish in every rainbow" Harold Finkleman
I read it in the book 'Chicken soup for Soul' and heard in one of our workshops, it is one of my favorite stories, touch my conscious asking myself 'did i make any difference to anyone of those little ones under my care!? one child at a time.
I went to the jostens leadership conference in Orlando back in 2005? Can't remember the exact year.. but they told this story... its stuck with me ever since :) .. a starfish will be my next tattoo :)
The history of the world has been single individuals putting their lives on the line for a whole lot of other people including the guys or gals who have the gall to be cursing out this wonderful message of courage. How many times has the persons cursing toughed up against human rights violations by himself or herself? Did any person cursing take time to stand against the crowd and do something good for a change. There is more evil than good in our planet. Why not join the minority?
This is a beautiful story about taking action and not waiting for someone else to do it the only thing is they should have made it more realistic and had the child with a parent on the beach . a female child would never be alone and talking to an male adult and if children watch this they'll think they can trust someone when to be realistic they can't .
That's sad. and 2thumbs up is sad. You missed the point. It can be about any living creature. If you care about puppy dogs more or even people. We see suffering and starving everywhere and the problem is just so big we often do nothing. This says even if you help just one person you've made a significant difference. And if everyone tries and helps just one we may have a better world. And maybe then when you need it somebody will help you instead of passing you by saying Fuck you.

Very nice sentiment behind this. Just helping one can make a difference.
The best lesson of all.

Nice capture of a contemporary parable.
