  • French mathematician Évariste Galois led a short and tragic life - but one that was incredibly fruitful from a mathematical point of view.

What a tragic figure Galois was. If only he hadn't suffered from the hot-headedness which led him into so much trouble he undoubtedly would have made even greater advancements in mathematical research. That he accomplished so much in his short life was remarkable.

True. Although tragedy has often stalked the lives of brilliant mathematicians: Niels Abel, Cantor, Ramanujan, to name but a few.

if i say x^5 + 3x^4 - 2x^3 + 5x^2 + 3x - 8 =0 , you must only use (1,3,-2, 5, 3,-8) to find if the quintic eq is solvable or not before going to algebra, wasnt it what the group theory was all about? what is the point using group theory if you know the answer 1st already? hope to see someone show it how in youtube without using much of math lingo, just skip all math subtleties if it is too obvious, because my brain cant take too much math lingo like upside down A or fliped e or Q(k\t\u) etc, try to use high school math operators.

Could you please suggest me some good books for group theory (algebra).

It depends what level you're at and whether you're looking for a book on a specific topic such as Lie groups. A First Course in Abstract Algebra by John B. Fraleigh is a good introduction.

Thanks, Giorgos. The channel is still less than a year old so, hopefully, we'll attract more subscribers and views as time goes on. Anyway, we're having a lot of fun!

Galois, a good choice for a video.

It's difficult to understand a mathematician.
