  • Daizan has arrived in Kushinagar - the place where the Buddha attained parinirvana and his physical body died at the age of 80. In this video, he's in front of the Ramabhar Stupa, which was built over a portion of the Buddha's ashes on the spot where his body was cremated.
Legend has it that Cunda, a resident of the local area of Pāvā, invited the Buddha and his group to a meal that featured a food called sukaramaddava ("boar's delight"). After this meal, the Buddha contracted a painful illness resembling dysentery. After the meal, he crossed the Kakkuttha River (now called the Khanua River) and went to Kushinagar to die.
