Thanks, Chris!! This video was Heaven-sent for me!! I actually wanted the Pearson 530 in Georgia because it seemed to best fit my likes. I had already rejected the one in Gloucester because it was a sloop rig, but designed to be a ketch. This review opened my mind to consider them and I quickly went to see the Cyclades 51.5 that you recommended. I now have a contract on it. THANKS!!
Welcome back and I hope you have a great year. The honesty that sears through your commentary is a rare thing these days. As is the frustration at our internet viewer distorted world. There is so little credit given to depth of experience especially if a cute backside is the main feature of the production values. these comments are my conclusion after 2 years watching the spectrum of sailing youtubes and after 6 months listening to your ideas. It took one day being crew and now I am very happy dinghy sailing! Maybe a boat will happen but I want to be doing that with the fundamentals addressed. Your advice is probably more valuable than you imagine and at the moment is often free- I am so glad that is so.
Wow, another fantastic video exploring the world of sailboats! It's great to see you exploring the 50 footers and giving us a closer look at what's out there. Keep up the amazing work, your channel has the best content!
I think I need to stay under 40 foot and still be able to single hand sail. I love to get to compare what is out there thanks to your videos and comments. Can't wait to meet up with you guys somewhere down in the islands, and go sailing! I'm working on it now!
We've been watching for a while now and love the content. Now we are looking for our next boat, this one we are looking at 50+. Funny how you skipped the only two we were considering (Moody 54 and Beneteau 50 in Boston). I get the extra space, but hate the charter style four cabin layout with the galley center salon. I'll be hitting Chris up as my buyer, we were about to jump! Cheers!
I spent three weeks trying to get a hold of the broker for that beneteau 51.5 Latitudes. Had a surveyor booked but when I stopped getting emails and couldn’t get a return call I cancelled everything. Figured they didn’t want to sell it.
OK, so full-time Delivery captain. You have my respect for that. Sailboat purchasing consultant , that explains a whole lot about your opinions. You're not gonna risk recommending a boat to someone and have them become unhappy about it. So now I understand a little bit more about your perspective. That being said, these full keel boats that don't have a lot of speed to them probably drive you nuts.. honestly when you're trying to get somewhere and estimate delivery times and you have a boat that does not turn on a dime or move very fast, I could see that being a little bit of a nuisance. But you have to admit, some of those sailing bricks are pretty tough. And if all you're worried about is getting somewhere in one piece, they might not be too bad. I also understand more about why the older boats, especially if they are sailboats do not excite you. Sometimes it takes a pretty good crew to run one of those things. Because they don't have the new NAV systems in a lot of them. It's a lot more work to run one.
I really enjoyed your post today, you really get down to the Nitty-gritty of sailing. I actually learned a few things from your video today. And I am 75-year-old Old salt it’s been around a few sale boats, good job very Enjoyable.
Nice browse through on the 50's! Just a quick note, that 1984 Morgan Offshore 50 @ 24:02 had a note of "standing rigging reported new 2017" in the sail section. Given that it's a fiberglass hull, at that price, could be worth the haul-out for a professional CVI/survey. Did you notice they're taking bitcoin/crypto currencies as well? Guessing this was a passion project before the market took a turn, and now just trying to recoup on the investment.

Lady k is all about cheap.... He said he got his boat for less than $5k and powers it with golf Cart batteries... We love him because he drinks cold Budweiser from a champagne glass, in the Bahamas & he's a Canuk... Which explains a lot
He's done one small passage in the Bahamas years ago, I'd put 10k in an escrow account to debate him regarding anything related to sailing , if I don't expose him on the debate live for the raging fraud he is in the world of sailing he keeps the ten k, when I do expose the face live that he has zero clue I get ten k from him. When he decides to accept let me know
I've been boating for over 40 years, one thing I have learned is that in every marina, on every dock, there is a guy who knows everything about everything, and he will tell you so. Chris is that guy, he has some good knowledge and kudos to him, he has learned to monetize his wayward opinions. What a class A jerk, criticizing everybody, their boats and their choices in life. Buying a boat is like buying anything else of significant value. You buy what appeals to you, what you want and like. Maybe you don't get the best deal but it is what you make of it. I bought a 54" Formosa, needed lots of work. Probably paid more than I should have, put more money into it that I planned, but it was all a labor of love and now, I have the best boat in the marina. I know it inside out and It's beautiful and roomy, not a racing boat but it moves well enough for us. Chris can take his opinions and shove em where the sun don't shine. Wouldn't waste a dime listening to this guy. And I will fulfill his prophesy...he's an idiot. Want to learn about cruising sail boats, read Lin and Larry (R.I.P) Pardy's books. They know what they speak of.

Chris, I'm in the process of selling my home and all my belonging to move aboard. I am already settled on a Lagoon with a flybridge in the 44-52 range. Would you please do a video and share your thought on multihulls of that class? I'm going to be working while living aboard since I owe alimony so I might as well finance a bit of the boat too and get a bigger or better equipped boat. Watermaker, bow sprit/code 0, hard top bimini, underwater lights, folding/feathering props, extra refrigeration, radar, and a washing machine all score big points with me but hull length=speed and that's great too. Also, I've got 3 kids who will be with me 1/2 time so rooms for them are needed too. Can't wait to hear your opinion!
@@ChasingLatitudes C’mon, that Rapido would’ve cost them close to $3m Aussie... and they still have the Outremer, one of their mates is hiring it out in the Whitsundays.

Great video Chris, good luck with the resolutions..... Question. Have you ever shown up at a boat, ready to take it on a sail to a new owner, and said "Oh hell no!"...?
Ha ha ha you are so funny. You made a lot of good points. I do like white and bright and you made a great pick but it was 139 or 159k which I don't have. Work for me is pristine condition. One I could charter out and not sink on me. I will give you my amazing pick a friend wants to sell the me hull survey done. Hmmmm waterline length 36 feet lol 43 only 7 feet. Well, don't hold back, tell us how you really feel. I think you just about shredded every boat you showed. You made a few decent points on some of them. How much of this information is personal feelings versus solid Intel? I get it, if a boat is more than 50 years old it could be a risky proposition because you have no way of knowing what shape the Hull is in, but we have technology these days that allows us to do things like x-ray. And if the boat can pass an x-ray might cost you two or three grand to get it done, but it could be worth it. And say what you want about the Catalinas, they are still floating.
Hey Chris, I just came across a you tube sailing channel I hadn’t seen before called sailing Tela Ru, sailing in Italy “off season” I was wondering have you ever sailed the Najad besides being a little pricey over the year 2000 what do you think of them if you have sailed them?

Brokers aren't licensed boat surveyors. Their opinion on standing rigging is meaningless. They aren't experienced or licensed diesel mechanics. Again, the broker's opinion is meaningless. Speaking on things they aren't licensed to speak on is a real good way to get sued. They mentioned the new sails because they have a receipt to prove it.
Although I love the 50+ footers, you always run into the same issues. No space for such a big boat in a marina. All jobs on those tankers take way more time and are way much expensive. So less money and time doing the sailing. Often they not rigged for solo sailing. So thanks but no thanks.
