To be honest, I don't see a compelling reason to buy this rack. Everything Rip mentions as a feature, you can do with virtually any other rack on the market, save for perhaps angled safeties (and I'm not sure what that's for).
For the nearly $1,200 that this rack costs, you can buy a Rogue R3 rack, an Ohio Power Bar, and a Rogue bench, with some money left over. The R3 will also have 1" hole spacing for benching, and will come with an anodized finish.

I agree. Except for the angle of the pin, everything else can be done in other racks.

Strap-safeties instead of pins: can angle, are much quieter, much less wear & tear on your barbells.
Btw, you angle it so if you fail the weight rolls away from you (safer).

    • @JasonSmith-fu6oi

actually this rack is superior because of the DIAMETER of the safety pins and bolts and the ease of using the safeties. i am annoyed when it comes to using my pine and pipe and these cold rolled steel pins are much stronger and more durable than the westside model. i have an elitefts 2x2 rack and now im considering this one.
the angled stuff isnt a selling point to me. no one is gonna do that because most want the safety of benching and squatting IN the rack, and those other short bolts are strong enough to hold tens of thousands of pounds so there is no need to angle anything. but i believe that is what makes this rack superior to other ones IF YOU WANT A BASIC RACK. now of course rogue, sorinex and all the other ones are geared towards all these fancy attachments which i dont plan on using. id rather use two barbells for dips than a MATADOR because i can adjust it to any height and any angle i want and i already have the bars, so less space there.

I built my own rack out of C-channel that cost seriously less than $400. And I made it 8 feet tall so my feet don’t touch the ground for pull ups. The costliest part was having a shop cut out the holes on their cnc plasma table.

I think Mark missed the biggest (only?) selling point of a C channel rack. If you live in a humid environment and lift in your garage, the inside of your racks posts will rust because they are bare metal. I live in the SE and the inside of my Rogue monster lite rack has visible surface rust after just a couple months. I wish I could get in there and treat it. A c-channel rack would allow you to easily apply 3 in 1 oil or paint to every inch of the rack.

The reason c-channel racks are not common is torsional rigidity. Open sections (like c-channels) have very poor torsional strength. Watch how the rack shakes in the dip video. He'd be much better off using tubing and safety straps to meet the features he wants. It does look pretty metal.

SS is trying to go more mainstream and to do this they don't want to trigger anyone's feelings. Customers often need to feel emotionally invested, like a brand is their new religion. If they have any reason to abandon ship, they will do so; and there are plenty of other equipment providers around. Notice this channel doesn't mention some subjects anymore, i.e. climate change (or was it global warming?) and GOMAD, which could trigger vegan customers.
It used to be this channel was way more tolerant of people saying whatever, but don't you trigger anyone now, though. SS just might stand for Special Snowflakes these days. Unfortunately.

It's a bit of extra flexibility. The main selling point, in my opinion, is the fact that you don't have to align the safeties /perfectly/ when you set them. Also, a lot of j-hooks just suck for re-racking weights properly; like they expect you to walk the bar in /exactly/ and drop it down on them.

Looks like a great rack and might be better than the Rogue R3.
Question - do you ship to Canada?

@@MrVigilanti But why pay twice as much even if it has better steel? How often do you hear of broken R3s? Do we even know this steel is better? Texas Strength Systems as made some bad stuff in my experience. This seems like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.

Crabcakes - if you have a rack I’m sure you wouldn’t be watching videos about a rack.
I wouldn’t buy a second if you have a quality rack lol.

HOW IS A C CHANNEL STRONGER THAN A TUBE?????? WHAT THE HELL!!!

4” c-channel is very strong and a quality tubing rack should be stronger... but is it all overkill at this point?
