Unfourtinatly I have a hard time getting my hands on espoma succulent soil in any close by stores so I am stuck using miracle grow cactus mix. After 4 rounds of soil gnats I ALWAYS microwave my soil in a ziplock bag in the microwave. It smells horrible but ITS 100% worth it to avoid soil gnats. I have shed more tears than I want to admit over my frustration with getting rid of soil gnats 😫!

I’ve been growing cuttings for several years. I take them in the fall and overwinter them in my basement. I take cutting from these and maybe another time. I have always had trouble with fungus gnats (I think that is what they are called). After watching another channel, I l learned that if you put boiling water in the starting mix, you wouldn’t have much of a problem, if any. This winter I have been doing that, and I have a fraction of the gnats that I’ve always had. I also use those yellow sticky cards. I have not had to change them yet this year.

Ladies...there are plenty of annuals that will reseed themselves and keep coming up year after year. Try zinnias or cosmos. They have all the color and they will reseed and come back from the new seed. Also, they are so easy to harvest the seed. Just pop off the flower when it starts to dry out. When you pull the dried petals out, there is a little arrow shaped seed on the end. I don't even bother to remove it. I just sprinkle the dried petals all around and get hundreds of flowers.

I’ve been known to spray paint my boxwood green after that type of mishap. A couple of light sprays does wonders. It lasts through the rest of the year. One year, a worker was careless with the roundup (long time ago) right before the Spring garden tour. Talked it over with the owners, took a few sprigs to the paint store to customize the best shade of green and it worked like a charm. Not trying to be deceitful and being fully prepared to fess up, no one inquired that day. Certainly wasn’t going to wear a sign or anything. There was a couple of close calls though. I’m reminded of I Love Lucy when she planted the wax a Tulips. LOL

It will be great to see plans, I plant a lot of pot now till we get through painting in April. I'm like you I need to see it, so plans on paper are hard to visualize. I get so confuse what to plan where due to the sun. We are in a 6b zone and I'm on my second all around the house planting due to replace sliding, painting, and replacing drip lines through out the flower beds, and things just not working out last go around. This will be my last time planting so it needs to work out. Forgot to say I had a professional landscaper last time to do my planning and they had things that were not compatible to this area and that is why it failed I think. So looking forward to all your upcoming color and types of plants videos.

YES - PLEASE provide a 'Black Walnut Video'. I hope you will address juglones in general, because I recently learned there are several trees which create juglones in the soil, including Hickory. Hickory seems to be why I have lost several shrubs that are not juglone-tolerant. I have no Black Walnuts, but do have several old and mature Hickories. Now I am trying to find shrubs that will survive these conditions.

Laura, I am also in Southeast Louisiana in Zone 9 (like one of the viewers that sent you a question) and yes, we do not have enough cold weather for some of the plants to perform. I also think that even though our highs may not be quite as high as yours sometimes, our lows in the summer time are between 75 and 80, so we have so many straight hours of intense heat. Couple that with the humidity, and it is brutal for the plants. I sure do wish that we could plant all of the plants you do. You are such an inspiration and your garden is absolutely beautiful. And, of course, seeing Benjamin is always extra special. Thanks again for all you and Aaron do. It is greatly appreciated.

I recommend that you visit the Garden Professors FB page and search for walnut alleopathy or juglone-it is controversial. Id love to see you do a video on your favorite RED blooming plants, because we know you prefer every color other than red, so varieties that you do like that are red must be only the best!

I will watch your Videos whenever you post them. I enjoy long but I watch all of them. I don't look for things wrong in your videos. If I happen to see something it's like, that is something that would happen to me. I never judge. I couldn't even see the leaves on the floor when you pointed them out. You do Awesome Videos! Don't stress out about the little things. God Bless you and your family this year and in your future.

I love that so many asked about your mom's boots! I live in Denmark and the brand is Danish! Ilse Jacobsen is the well known designer and the word "Hornbæk" is the Danish city where she started her small business. I did not knew you could even get them in the US. So funny 😊
Love your videos guys! Always amazing content :-)

The Plumbago the question was referring to is P. auriculata (syn. capensis), not frost tolerant, shouldn't go below 6°C, dies back in winter and -hopefully- flushes back in spring if it was well protected in the cold season! I was puzzled at first as well when you mentioned Plumbago, then you showed pictures and I realized it's a different species altogether (Ceratostigma vs Plumbago), though both belong to the Plumbago family

I totally understand that planning style. I'm a visual person too. Plus, I like to buy the discount plants and you can't plan for that. However, I still ask that you take us along for the ride (especially since we think similarly). I really get lost in all the beautiful plants and procrastinate on decisions or get nervous about hardscapes (I really need help with that since my house is already brick... I don't want to have to much of a mish-mash). Maybe even just a hardscape video?!?

I also need to see how you pinch back seedlings, I'm not sure I know how to do correctly. I'm worried about starting seeds inside, I don't have good luck keeping them alive before planting outside. Maybe next year you can plan a trip to the Chicagoland area, I missed out on the dates at your garden and can't make it to Ohio this weekend. Would really love to meet you and Aaron, I can't tell you how much I look forward to your videos. Would love to see an ornamental grass video, I'd like to add more this year to my garden.

Could you please do a video on how to stake delphiniums? I planted some last year and because of wind they needed staking but there has to be a better way than how I did it because it kind of interfered with some blooms! Thanks 😊

Laura, Olivia is not alone...add me! :)) I heard you mention walnut trees a few times in your blue flower video and I thought, gosh! I could use a whole video series on what to grow and such! My land is surrounded by them. I have learned to garden the best I can in different areas, but I sure would watch what you had to say about it all! Thank you!!

Hi Laura and Aaron! Another great recap video! I really enjoy these. I'm really looking forward to a video on ornamental grasses. I have 2 approx. 18 dia. pots that I want to grow some perennial grasses in. Purple Fountain is my absolute favorite, but they don't winter over in Nampa, ID. I used to plant them in the pots every year, but the root system is so extensive that it became too hard to remove since I have arthritis in both hands. I would love to find a grass that is really close and hope you can recommend one. Any videos you mentioned will e fun to watch. Thank you so much for sharing!

I hate to sound contrary- but, I've had bug issues with every kind of soil/soilless mix I've used for seed starting. Most bags have little holes in them to prevent moisture buildup & bugs do get into them. Plus, places where mixes are mixed!, are open to their inside environment & stuff happens. I haven't sterilized mixes yet, but, I think I will this year by baking them in the oven because I HATE APHIDS.

If you make another video with specific colours of flowers would you please consider making one for peachy/apricot/blush coloured flowers? I find it so hard to find the perfect balance between pink and orange and I think you mentioned this was something you struggled with too in one of your videos...other than roses I can't come up with a lot of flowers in that colour and would love some inspiration :)

Hi, Laura! I just wanted to take a minute to say thanks for making these recap videos! I’m pretty busy these days with young grandkids and don’t always get to watch all of your videos, particularly the longest ones. I like these recaps a lot! Best wishes for an early spring in your part of the world. Here in central Florida the camellias are gorgeous and the azaleas are coming on too. I try to hold off on cutting things back until March 1st, but this winter has been so mild I know I won’t be able to wait that long. 💙

My garden has been terrible after the black walnut volunteered and no one took it down. Thank goodness I'm moving to a new yard soon and there are no black walnut trees in my yard. The neighbor has them (not really close) what is the distance that they can affect?
