I love my old GTI’s I am so glad penn decided to keep making a big level wind. I will be buying some of these for sure even though my GTI’s still work and look perfect after years of fishing.
Hi, I just bought a new Penn Squall SQL30LWLH and took it out for test. I noted the line cannot be tighten even I turned the tension knob to the max (to tightest), the 30g weight just came rushing down to the ground when I turned on the release lever. The shop owner told me it is normal for this model and I have to use my thumb to control the tension. Kindly verify if this is the case. Thank you so much
Hi Mike, Like your reviews. Just want to ask if these Squalls have the same size profile as the regular ones? I have two Squall 15's and was looking to get a compact level wind my wife could use. Appreciate any advice you can offer. Thanks.
I have the new Rampage jigging casting rod for mainly vertical jigging ....I'm thinking either the Penn squall 50 star drag or this Squall level wind in the biggest size ...what would be best?
Hey penn I have a question about my penn squall 30vsw..... it is a brand new reel but every time I reel fast it makes a weird sound do you have any suggestions?
Hi Rafael, It really depends on what species you intend on targeting, and the technique you plan on using most often. For instance, if you're fishing from the beach - a long surf rod is the right tool for the job, compared to fishing from a boat - a shorter rod makes getting a fish close enough to gaff, much easier. Hi Steve, Our product lines vary from region to region. You may be able to locate specific gear from other product lines, online with a retailer who will ship to your region in the UK.
CHR, level winds are best suited to trolling since the level wind mechanism can limit casting distance with the way it manages line. For surf fishing we recommend a spinning reel paired with a PENN Prevail Surf Rod. Check out the Torque, Spinfisher V and Z Series reels.
We don't recommend level winds for casting, but the Squall comes in plenty of open face models. You can see the full collection and specs on our website. www.pennfishing.com/penn/?q=squall

We used the penn squall 20 on a 7ft 30lb class boat rod out boat fishing in the uk and it had no problem bringing in an 88lb tope on 50lb braid..
These are great reels🐟
Great reel , just wish they were made in the USA like my old GT's.

We just put the video up, IrishDevil.

Penn should do some videos on the Fathom Level Wind reels. There is next to nothing out there about them.

Trolling for Rockfish, is the Penn 30 Squall better than the new Penn 30 Warfare?
Is the Squall 60 considered 4/0?...or bigger?
What's a good rod for the 30 size reel

Would this be good for shore fishing for stipers and about 4/5 ft shark? If so what size would you recommend
