The fact that they are pull saw blades would in fact be a detriment if your hand WERE to slip and run up to the blade. As your hand running forward over the teeth provides the same contact as pulling the teeth back over your hand would. I believe you that it's pretty unlikely to happen with that setup, just wanted to point out that it's not gonna make it any better if it did happen though. Cheers!
Nice to see someone put this on a video as I HAVE BEEN DOING THIS FOR OVER 40 YEARS!!!! First it was jigsaw blades, then later recip-saw blades. Especially useful when needing a short stroke and more control, say when cutting toilet bolts, or cutting out the interior of stub nipples from water supply tees and elbows. I would insert the saw blade into the nipple, then CAREFULLY cut through the interior of the nipple until ALMOST through to the threads...at that point, I use an awl or other sharp tool to pick out the remains.
The Japanese always used the "pull" type of blades for hand saws.... and I always hoped that it would catch on here. They're Sooo much easier to use and are so much more effective and use less energy. (and they don't keep jamming up and bending like the push-saws do).
I was going insane asking, "can I use vice grips as a handle to saw blades?" You read my mind and answered the question most of the world has been asking.
Making the groove have a gradual pitch going deeper the further back in the top jaw will create a greater contact area for the top for the reciprocating saw blade. Creating a more secure hold, with less plier pressure. Why do this, so you don't mushroom the blade retainer .
I couldn't find my Sawzall, but conveniently enough, I WAS able to locate not only the fake Submariner that I usually wear but also the spare for when the shit fake Rolex stops working! Doesn't it look in place with a pair of "vice grips" and a Diablo blade?!? Dudes are gonna want to blow me as soon as this goes live!!!
You might say there's a one in a billion chance of it going wrong but... people get struck by lightning every day lol, if I'm using a saw it's not one I fashioned with vice grips. I've gouged my hands too many times to fall for something like this lol. Anybody who wants to, sure, go for it, I'm sure it's fine... I'm just old and cautious.
I do because generally I get better parts plus my rig is now so old most stuff is either custom or special order only so they can't get it much faster then I can unless it's a crap part
I would drill out that rivot on the top jaw, the one where the blade was only contacting in the corner, and grind that smooth, maybe a bit more, and try to get that top groove seating the same way the bottom one is, the just replace that rivot with a roll pin
@@maxlvledc let me know how it goes! I was wondering if having it flat like that would end up gripping worse than just having that corner. Shit gets funky when you start messing with surface roughness, pressure, area, deformation, wear, twisting, all that, and I ain't an engineer, there's no way I'd know how well it'd work, but I'd try it 😂
If its a pull saw blade than the cutting side is dangerous to a slipping hand, as your had would move in the cutting direction. I just....why not get a saw that can control lateral flex better and have a hand guard.
Don't waste your time they sell handles to turn a reciprocating saw blade into a hand saw about 20 bucks at Home Depot or Lowe's even other stores online
@@maxlvledc it’s going to torque as your cutting and you’re gonna get pinched 😆 Im asking what is the purpose? Survival? Because an investment into a good silky folder will save your fingers . I just don’t think sawzall blades can cut at such low speeds (by hand) maybe a pruning blade but at that point get a folder

Man I do love full sized tools in mini form
me too!
what do you mean mini? 4 inches a lot
@@polyblank73 yea fr the things are HUGE in his hands
@@polyblank73 it's not the size that matters, it's how you use it
Fun size
An answer to a question I would never ask

It's just like the silkeys

I like wee little vice grips, I have a pair but should put extras on the shopping list. They're just so cute! I think mine are 3 inches.
I have been using saw blades in Vise Grips for years and have NEVER had to mod my Vise Grips
Call me paranoid..but I'm sure you could
Nice watch
80$ on amazon own the same 7 years
amzn.to/3W66EVJ currently $67 actually

Use the correct tool for the job always, this just puts you at risk of injury.
I remember when vice grip was its own brand and they were good, now it's just hit or miss with the DeWalt crap
I feel you. my originals that I've looked after are better than the new stuff. same story different tool.
The geometry of it kind of reminds me of non-folding silky saws.
Best blades I have used too
Yes it works. But the blade will not perform how it was meant to. Because it was meant to work in a reciprocating saw
I bet a jigsaw blade would work perfectly in there like from your Leatherman crunch video
I ask that question on my head and you answered it😮
Haha, nice
They do make a handle that allows you to use the Sawzall blade.
To my lack of paying attention I bought a Swiss knife with out a saw blade. I love my knife. With setup I would have so many blades.
I couldn't find my Sawzall, but conveniently enough, I WAS able to locate not only the fake Submariner that I usually wear but also the spare for when the shit fake Rolex stops working! Even if it was a push saw blade the teeth would be curved the other way and wouldn’t be as dangerous. I love this!
Leatherman crunch
How well did the invicta stand up to vice grips? Lol

thats like average length, right 😅
Used a dremel & cut ✂️out the both insides of the vise grip to hold it better 👍
Yep
Oil has entered the chat.
Nice Pro Diver!
It's an invicta
But does your standard sawzall blade fit in a clost bolt tool meant for a standard hack saw blade... dont grind my pliers lol
I do because generally I get better parts plus my rig is now so old most stuff is either custom or special order only so they can't get it much faster then I can unless it's a crap part
Bro got that curved lightsaber Handle as a saw

How did you cut the notches into the teeth? Thanks
Dremel
Have you seen those self adjusting locking pliers?
Yep, but needs to be locking.
Or you could use a reciprocating saw.
But does it Djent?
Great for surviving the zombie apocalypse.
wow 4 inches? that is huge!
Said no one ever 😆
@@maxlvledc wh. what? no no 4 inches is like at least pretty average

Can a LM Crunch do that (hold the saw) firmly, dude?
Kind of...it has cut out on the top but not the bottom so you have to do it a little more gingerly
I'm uh, I'm pretty sure that's not the intended purpose, is this an April fools joke?
"Believe it or not"
Not
Did he show this in action?
Kind of..using a crunch...I need to do a full video on these mods.

file an angle on the back side of the sawzall blade the fit properly
Yep!
You know there is a handle you can buy ?
Not sure
bro you could use that saw blade in your effing hand. big surprise.
If your hand attached to superman lol...try it
U shouldn't slide forward anyway that blade clearly cuts on the pull stroke
Yeeep
why is there an Invicta watch?
This was part of my 48 shorts in 24 hour challenge.
Vice grips don't fuck around
That’s use to pop a car
You can get a handle for that blade for a couple bucks.
True..but it won't also be a locking plier and wire cutter 😉
Can and should are two different things.
Unless you make YT content 😆
@@maxlvledc True. You did get me to look.
Cut something if you want people to believe you. I think it will work in a pinch, but wouldn't want to use it all the time
I did in another short..I should do a long form video on these.
Or....and I'm just spitballin' here....go buy a $30 recip saw like I did.
Just wear leather gloves if you’re scared.
But why?
I was not going to ask.
Didn't cut with it.
Talk about having Popeye forearms
Interestingly no demonstration. 🤔
Did in another video..need to do a long form one.
Nobody ever asked that bro
why just why?
You are going to pinch tf out of yourself.
Can I ask the purpose? I’m genuinely curious.
How am I going to get pinched?

show me {it work} ! This would be great for bushcrafting kit {if u can really use it}....
Just get a folding reciprocating saw blade holder. No effort required.
