The way you define happiness reminds me of how I define and approach mental health. It is something that can be seen as tangible and persuadable. Something that can be worked on each day and approached with intention. It probably doesn't just "HAPPEN." It is a daily process of self-reflection, intentionality, and sometimes even hard work. Great video!

This was so lovely 🤗.. I am still trying to find a way to be happy😢😔. I suffer from burnout, depression, and now anxiety and insomnia.. Mainly due to my marriage (now taken the first step by separation and now going through divorce), job unhappiness (I can't change, so am trying to find ways to find satisfaction by finding additional branches) , sick kids (can't control this, only trying to find better ways to cope and help them) and away from all my family and friends (prisoner of Germany divorce law and not having been home for 2 yrs now due to covid). I am desperately trying to find ways to not hate Germany and what it has done to my life because I can not leave for now.. And now I am try and find ways to just accept this imprisonment and find ways to be happy in this situation I can not change at the moment... But it is very hard. Thank you for this reassuring and motivational video👏🤗
I agree about picking up your phone and seeing something that shakes you. I genuinely felt like metaphorically kicking someone in the balls the other day; worse, that person was a teenager, and I am someone who swore to do no harm. Their post was unbelievably triggering, it was one of those "self loathing self beating feel bad for me and feel bad about yourselves everyone, also I won't get help from a professional, so that I don't get a diagnosis and have to work on what I have, I want attention so I'm doing this here" BS. And like a dozen others, some of them were adults, encouraging and enabling this crap. Why would people let someone shoot themselves in the foot? Why do they like feeling terrible and putting themselves down instead of getting help? Why would anyone choose to be a victim? And encourage others to do the same? Oh, and this was not a depression/anxiety/PTSD related post, it was an impulse control disorders related post that got posted in an ADHD related forum. I was just furious. Someone with an impulse control issue was confusing it with "impulsivity" related to ADHD, discouraging everyone from trying anything and having hobbies because THEY have some shopping related impulse control issues. And everyone being "yeah yeah this is ADHD". NO! Feeling like you have to check your phone every few minutes is not the same as sending thousands of dollars on something you don't want or need, it's an entirely different condition. And beating yourself over can have severe repercussions on your self esteem and mood. So get help from a professional. And now people with ADHD who don't know any better are gonna buy a one way ticket to depression and anxiety land because they'll believe this misinformation. Those are conditions that people with ADHD are more susceptible to than "average". I hate it when the internet tries to play the population doctor. It's not public health, its psychology and psychiatry, and while people like you give good advice, seeing others botch it with no one preventing them is just downright harmful.

Thank you so much and I'm so happy you're still enjoying my videos! I've heard about the empaths survival guide.. think I might want to check it out too :) Thanks for the tip!
Hi Vera, completely off topic. I've been doing some catch up. I've just watched your video on only having one of.... 7 months ago. I recollected one similar video where you only owned one pink long cardigan. I realise that things change, wear out etc. I do notice that you have lots of jumpers and cardigans now... confused. In life we do have to go with the flow. Enjoy what is good because we can't plan a forever happy life, we don't know what life will throw at us. Decision making is a positive feeling, which makes me feel happy.
What makes me happy? Silence in nature, a walk in the rain, watching the stars at night, dinner with good friends, and praying and listening to life. 🌷
My wife , football, living by the sea, watching films & morning breakfast make me happy but I’m sure my first child due in December will trump all of that! 😉😆🤰 Excellent video 👍
This question just came to my mind today. Then I realized that happy can only be achieved by the balance among mind, body and spirit. Even I am doing things I love during weekend, I felt tired as my energy was depleting. So, I rest, listen to music, stop my learning for a while, rejuvenate, and then I feel alive again, content and happy. Balance between body and mind, and even spirit is important for us to feel happy.
Absolutely beautiful video, Vera. Thank you so much for continuing to share such valuable wisdom and insights. You and your content are truly a gem 💎 🪶 ☀️ 🌊 🍁
7:45 I can totally relate to this lol I remember the first music festival I went to. It was blazing hot outside during the day with no shade, no showers, you had to walk like a mile to get anywhere, bottled water was $10 a bottle, I could barely get any decent sleep... and I thought the exact same thing to myself: "What the heck am I doing here?!" LMAO!!! :)
Your video made me very happy. I am 51 years old and sitting here enjoying a cup of coffee and I feel so happy. If I could tell me 31 year old self. Relax and enjoy the ride. Being happy with My husband which we just celebrated our wonderful blessed 20 year marriage. Enjoying all the special moments and having a wonderful family and friends. Just being thankful and grateful that’s what makes me happy. Thank you for always putting things in such a positive perspective.
So happy you enjoyed the video Maria, thank you for sharing your thoughts! Love what you shared about being married to your best friend and accepting yourself fully 🤗💕🌷 Take care my friend, enjoy your weekend!
Becoming a more spiritual person has brought me a lot of joy, as well as listening to music or playing the piano. Whenever I engage in one of these activities, I feel an instant surge of joy flow through me. 😊
What a beautiful video to play/hear while sipping coffee on a Sunday morning. I never heard "hike your hike" before; love the truth in that. In the past, my career robbed me of happiness:(my job was my life as it consumed most of my day (& night). Due to both choice as well as elements outside my control, I am trying to carve out my own self-employed path. My days are now mine and I can do things I love again: hang clothes in the sunshine, enjoy my mornings, no office politics... I'm actually happy... so in the end, it was a lifestyle change, for me, that gave me the opportunity to refocus on things that I enjoy, to slow down and actually enjoy my life. Thank you for your videos. They brighten my whole week 😊
New subscriber, I’m loving your content. What makes me happy….playing with my cat, lying in the sun and just being, feeling the warmth of my favorite coffee mug as I sit and sip, playing with my grandbaby and watching life through his eyes, walking my dogs without being on autopilot, really paying attention to my surroundings as my pets do,pulling a fresh baked cobbler out of the oven and serving it in a beautiful dish, tying on a pretty apron as I putter around in the kitchen, crocheting a washcloth for a friend and taking the extra time to make a fancy border for it, browsing the greeting card isle and picking up “thinking of you”cards. Sitting on my covered porch during a thunderstorm. Most of these things are absolutely free💓
You have grown so much Vera. Everything you said is very true. Most of us chase happiness, the closer we think we are getting the further it moves away. I believe living in the moment is where happiness lies. If we are looking ahead or behind we are missing it. A hug from my grown son, watching gold fish or a hummingbird. Walking on the beach or in the Redwoods. These are things I am grateful for and enjoy the most. Thank you for reminding me of where I need to be. ☮️
Lovely video with great advice. I love the way you share your tips, it’s so gentle and thoughtful. Classical music and hiking with my dogs makes me feel happy. The more I get to know myself and accept myself, the happier I am becoming - it’s very much a work in progress!
I have recently realized that “earthing” really helps with my depression. I’ve heard about that before, but i never purposely did that or thought about it. This year i noticed that these days that i get to swim in the sea or lake, walk around barefoot in the grass etc, i really do feel happier and calmer. We have only 2 warm months where i live so i try to take the most of it. There’s some perks about autumn too. Yesterday i picked chanterelles from the forest and made dinner from these in the evening. So i literally need to not just be outside, but touch nature with my skin. ☺️😀
Watching Simple Happy Zen makes me Happy. Thank you for your knowledge and wisdom. I wish I had learned these things many years ago, but I’m happy to learn them now.
I love your fair complexion. I like the idea that happiness is within ourselves and that we can access it, that it isn't so dependent on things outside ourselves.
I agree to accept ups and downs.i love journaling.i woud like it if everyone was always nice.but its not realistic.hold on to what is fun in the sad moments.give yourself credit and believe in your path is perfect.forget thepast forgive and move on is where i want to be
Hi Vera! What a great video! I would have liked it more than once if it were possible 😊 During the first lockdown last year I followed a course called "The Science of Well-Being" taught by Professor Laurie Santos and I took a lot from it. For me, being happy means to be content with who I am and what I have, knowing I did my personal best to achieve my goals and handled according to my beliefs/values. As I turned 30, I realized I was tired of playing a role and now, I just want to be myself and let go of everything (and everyone!) that doesn't match. Have a nice Sunday! 🍂🤗
A cup of delicious tea or coffee is a cup of happiness and reading lovely books 📚and cooking a healthy meal brings happiness for me.☺️ (a old zen saying: A bath refreshed the body , a cup of tea refreshed the mind)
Look at nature and watch the sea , Nature created for all , for you and me , We are one with nature that we can see , Here is how we intend to be … Love and peace could hold the key , In this life , we take a part , In the goodness of beauty , There is an art , This is where , we get to start...
Thank you so much for asking Katie! My mom is doing well now :) She had her surgery and everything was succesful, so she's able to have a life again :) We're all very grateful. Hope you're doing well!
There are a lot of things that bring me happiness and joy but the number 1 is when I face time with my son every Sunday afternoon because he lives in a different state then I do. Thanks Vera for your insight. ❤
I often try to plan an activity depending on the weather as I don't like to 'waste' a beautiful sunny day. However I have occasionally forced myself to go out for this reason only to discover I was too tired/unmotivated/unhappy to fully appreciate it. I have discovered that I can still enjoy the sunshine if I stay home to rest/read/meditate if this is necessary for me to recharge my battery. Now I check my mood/energy levels as well as the weather before deciding how to spend my day ! As you say in this beautiful video, happiness comes from within. We will tend to associate happiness with sunshine and warmth but I can think of many occasions when I have felt contented on darker days also 😊 I've had times too when I have been in a beautiful location and felt unhappy and yet other times far less scenic and still felt joyful. So yes, happiness really does come from within 💕
My home and family, my work, skating and spending time outside hiking or skiing, all make me happy. Struggling with a bit of anxiety as another lockdown seems imminent here. It casts a cloud over everything it feels like.
Although this was four months ago I still want to answer the question of gratitude. Besides my family of course every night and every morning I am grateful that I go to sleep in my own bed and wake up in my own bed. That my apartment is intact and I am safe in it. Has always been a biggie for me. This is the first video of yours I found and plan to watch and learn more.
LOKAH SAMASTAH SUKHINO BHAVANTU is a Sanskrit phrase that translates to "may all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts words and actions of my own life contribute in some way towards that happiness and freedom for all" 💚👽🛸🐱🐶🐄🐷🐔🐳🐬🦜🦚🍀🍄🌎
You have touched on a very interesting topic….the feeling that listing things you are grateful for is like a chore. At a time when I am scaling back all the jobs on a to do list, this is a very real thing. I would much rather live mindfully and appreciate things organically.
I look for contentment in my life. When I am content with what I have I am not focused on what others have or what others are doing. I am free to be me.
I love your videos Vera. At this point I spend more time with you than with my husband :D they are so helpful and insightful. Have you thought about releasing a podcast? I could listen to you talk all day! (and often, I do!)
I’ve always loved being in nature and looking at the small things, the shapes of leaves or the light on water, the colours of the earth. But I am lazy and often I don’t do this thing I love. Recently I’ve made a pact with myself to go walking every day to take photographs of these special things and now I can hardly wait to go out to do this. I am seeing much better and the seeing and capturing makes me very happy.
Thank you Vera, this video inspired me💞 Especially about the difficulty to make personal decision in life. I always try to weigh pros and cons in my decisions and i choose nothing. That's why, I often feel unhappy in my professional life. Plus, I've never had the slightest romantic relationship with any woman at 38😅 Shame on me, I'm now too old. 6:16 : "What matters isn't what you choose, it's that you choose.", so beautiful🙏 And yes this is important to know ourself better, to be more benevolent with our self, because we are the person with who we are at every moment of our life. To hate ourself is destructive and I know what I'm speaking. Thank you Vera to help us with your precious guidance🙏💞
Setting small goals daily and achieving them! I used to make big goals and found that I got overwhelmed trying to achieve them! The last six months I just focus on daily goals! It makes me happy and gives me a sense of self accomplishment!
I absolutely LOVE this video 💕💓Thank you so much for it 💕💓 It was so comforting and soothing to watch and listen to 💓💖 The onky thing I know for sure that makes me happy are my animals 💝💓 I only have two dogs at the moment for financial reasons, but I want many more in the future ❤💖
I'm another 'my dog' person; he's so much in the moment and just loves to play! Also 'we' love to explore the woods and rocks and creeks. I'm fortunate to live in a nice and safe place in the world and to be healthy at 75! Thanks for the uplifting thoughts!
Being at the beach and in the ocean or on the water makes me happy!! I know this is a more common sentiment but now for the somewhat odd happiness source....Cleaning makes me happy and it has since I was a kid? Don't ask me why but the semi-instant gratification of a room that looked unkempt and now looks beautiful really makes me happy.
To me, happiness is an emotion period. It is a response to ‘good’ things. Happiness is therefore not a goal in my life to achieve. by your definition ( or mine). Joy is actually a state of being that is not dependent upon circumstances or feelings. For me , joy is based on my faith in God. It is a state of being that comes only through knowing, trusting and loving Him. And therefore my ‘goal’ is not happiness but righteousness ( rightly related to God and all of His creation).
This video really hit home with me. I am working on myself right now. I have spent so many years making other people happy, seeing what other people have that I don't and trying to live up to other peoples expactations that I have lost myself. Thank you.
What makes me happy is having freewill ,being made in the image of God , and having the opportunity to be God's child or apart of God's family with the help of Jesus. I love my freedom, my choice to do me and be free to change something if I dont like it or if it doesnt serve me a purpose that matches my vision of abundance of joy peace and love also when I have endured hard times or hardship and find myself being stronger in my weak moments cause I have relied on my higher power Father in the heavens Jehovah
Vera this is one of your best videos. You seem so calm and authentic. You speak from the heart and it resonates with your audience. I am so glad that you are joyful. I find small moments during the day when I am with small children very joyful. Seeing the world through their eyes. Thank you for the work that you do. You make many people listening to you happy.
Thank you for this video, Vera! This is what I needed to hear right now, as I have been quite depressed recently. Especially the point about making decisions, though they will never be 100% perfect. I always tend to overthink my decisions and if I have small doubts about anything, I just stay in the same situation and don't change something at all :( It's time to finally make a decision about what I'm going to do about my job - staying at my current company or trying out something new :)

Day or night, when taking a walk, sitting in a park, when reading, before sleep etc sit or lie down and observe your breath. Like me, make this a lifetime daily habit to have a good life. Reduce watching social media and avoid constipation as it affects the mind instantly. Best wishes Shyaaam Sir. -Counsellor.
Thank you Vera
You're very welcome Deborah, take care!! 🤗💕
Love the way you're wearing your hair and make up lately. So lovely! Thanks again for another wonderful video.
Aw thank you Mary! :) That's so sweet. Happy you enjoyed the video! Have a lovely day
I just loved this. It’s just perfect especially since we had lockdown and now don’t. Getting to really no ,and like ourselves ❤️⭐️Thank you 💕
So happy you enjoyed it! Have a lovely day
I agree about picking up your phone and seeing something that shakes you.
@💋 Sweety Hotgirl • Vlogs Hey! I think you may have accidentally posted this comment as a reply to mine lol 😆 when you actually intended it for the channel's owner 😊😁.

food related pleasures like a hot bowl of soup, fresh fruits🍓🫐🍋, a fresh baked croissant🥐, a good cup of tea🫖☕ or coffee, homemade cookies 🍪that snap, dark chocolate 🍫, cooking anyway😬😇, the smells that build up.... I love it! Being with friends and (some) family. Feeling greatfull🙌.

Lovely! I can definitely agree with fresh linens and a freshly made bed
I screen music. I have vision with music. I write stories to music which brings me joy and happiness.
Hi Vera I’ve learnt so much about myself from watching your videos and that makes me happy 😃 alongside learning to appreciate what I do have and learning to not make other peoples issues my issues? just reading the empaths survival guide very interesting thank you for such a insightful video ❤️

Let us not grow weary of doing good. We will reap a harvest if we don’t give up. 🙏
I have been watching your videos for so long and only just realized I’m not subscribed! How?¿ Don’t worry, I fixed that 😊❤️
Hahaha thank you Amy! :) I appreciate it
Hai iam from Indian like your videos

I'm happy when I see nature, like rain when the plants have needed water, and then seeing birds splashing in a puddle of water.
What makes me happy? Silence in nature, a walk in the rain, watching the stars at night, dinner with good friends, and praying and listening to life. 🌷
Lovely! Thanks for sharing Diana :)
This makes me happy too ❤
I feel I’m the luckiest person on Earth, because I was born happy and grateful. 😊 Great video! 👍🏻
My wife , football, living by the sea, watching films & morning breakfast make me happy but I’m sure my first child due in December will trump all of that! 😉😆🤰
Excellent video 👍
Thank you so much and congratulations!!! 🤗💖

Yay! :)
Love what you shared about happiness, have a lovely weekend and take care!
Absolutely beautiful video, Vera. Thank you so much for continuing to share such valuable wisdom and insights. You and your content are truly a gem 💎 🪶 ☀️ 🌊 🍁
Aw thank you!! Take care and have a lovely weekend!
@@SimpleHappyZen thank you dear friend. That’s the true happiness accepting our self and living each moment with those we love best.
Becoming a more spiritual person has brought me a lot of joy, as well as listening to music or playing the piano. Whenever I engage in one of these activities, I feel an instant surge of joy flow through me. 😊
That's great Amy, thanks for sharing :)
I love that you made those changes Naomi, so happy for you!! :) And thank you for enjoying my videos 🤗
They all sound so wonderful! Thanks for sharing :) And of course welcome to the channel!
Aw thank you Jennie, absolutely love what you shared about happiness! 🤗🍂🍁🍃
Lovely video with great advice. I love the way you share your tips, it’s so gentle and thoughtful. Classical music and hiking with my dogs makes me feel happy. The more I get to know myself and accept myself, the happier I am becoming - it’s very much a work in progress!
Thankyou so much Samantha, that's so nice of you to say 🤗🍁🍂 Take care and give your dogs a hug from me!
Very interesting! Thanks for sharing Marit

Thank you so much Marine, happy you enjoyed this video! :) Love what you shared about happiness and being content with who you are and what you have
A cup of delicious tea or coffee is a cup of happiness and reading lovely books 📚and cooking a healthy meal brings happiness for me.☺️

Oooh I love that!!! YES TEA
Happiness and pleasure are not the same! Pleasures dont bring happiness. Meaningful life brings fulfillment.

Heart of Kentucky. Hi Vera. I haven't spoken to you for a long time. You look totally beautiful as always. What happened with your mother? Katie.
Thank you Cathy, have a lovely day!
We will tend to associate happiness with sunshine and warmth but I can think of many occasions when I have felt contented on darker days also 😊
I've had times too when I have been in a beautiful location and felt unhappy and yet other times far less scenic and still felt joyful. So yes, happiness really does come from within 💕
I love this so much!!!
Thank you. such calming, informative and enriching videos✔❤💯
Thank you so much! Funny we have the same name :)
My home and family, my work, skating and spending time outside hiking or skiing, all make me happy. Struggling with a bit of anxiety as another lockdown seems imminent here. It casts a cloud over everything it feels like.
Thanks for sharing Alison, I'm sorry to hear that. These last two years haven't been easy.. Sendinh you a big hug, bless your heart 💕
That's lovely, thank you for sharing :)
LOKAH SAMASTAH SUKHINO BHAVANTU is a Sanskrit phrase that translates to "may all beings everywhere be happy and free and may the thoughts words and actions of my own life contribute in some way towards that happiness and freedom for all" 💚👽🛸🐱🐶🐄🐷🐔🐳🐬🦜🦚🍀🍄🌎
Beautiful! Thank you for sharing :)
You have touched on a very interesting topic….the feeling that listing things you are grateful for is like a chore. At a time when I am scaling back all the jobs on a to do list, this is a very real thing. I would much rather live mindfully and appreciate things organically.
Yes I also enjoy that more :)
One youtuber said:
You can have everything in the world, but if you are not grateful for it, then, it is meaningless.
Very true! 😄
I look for contentment in my life. When I am content with what I have I am not focused on what others have or what others are doing. I am free to be me.

That's such a good idea! :)
Coffee and Bible time.
Thank you Vera, this video inspired me💞
Especially about the difficulty to make personal decision in life.
I always try to weigh pros and cons in my decisions and i choose nothing. That's why, I often feel unhappy in my professional life. Plus, I've never had the slightest romantic relationship with any woman at 38😅 Shame on me, I'm now too old.
6:16 : "What matters isn't what you choose, it's that you choose.", so beautiful🙏
And yes this is important to know ourself better, to be more benevolent with our self, because we are the person with who we are at every moment of our life.

"practice makes better"
that's GENIUS. did you turn that phrase vera??? i love it
Nature, friends & my family nearby. Also, a Church, a Catholic Church where I feel at peace and at home!!!! 🙂
Very wise advice and wisdom!
Thank you so mcuh Renee :)
I feel like this is pretty easy to say living in NL where you're not worried about losing your basic needs each month.
Expecting feels great but expectations ruin happiness. That's strange.
Vera this is one of your best videos. You seem so calm and authentic. You speak from the heart and it resonates with your audience. I am so glad that you are joyful.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, I wish you all the best with your job situation!
