I've always wanted to see the "guts" of a Scheerhorn Resonator. Now it's crystal clear to me. Thank you for sharing this mini documentary. Super interesting. Even though I'll probably buy an Appalachian. Lol. :)
Great question. From what I gather it came down to Jerry not being satisfied with his Dobro brand signature guitar. Paul Beard was one of the premier builders so he landed the great responsibility of building Jerry’s signature guitar. Jerry played it on stage and everyone wanted one (including me). That’s my short take.
I know your reply is four years old, and you’ve probably heard many reasons since then, but I was told that Jerry wanted Tim to build a JD model. Typically, an artist model is pretty common, to help boost sales, but Tim is a one man operation, and was already four years back ordered, getting 6k for a standard guitar. So, Tim declined. Beard, being a bigger operation, in terms of more overhead and more product, it made more sense for Jerry and other artists, to go with Beard. It was more beneficial for Beard to cater to the artists, to increase sales, for more product, production, and overhead. Tim has done very well, and Paul Beard has done very well, and other Resophonic builders, seem to be doing well. Since the time of this video, some great dobro players have come out of the woodworks, and have popularized this instrument, even more.
Thanks for sharing this. Super interesting!
Glad you enjoyed!

I would love to have one of these. Too bad they go for over $10,000 now. And that’s as cheap as you’ll fine one!
So why do all these guys endorse Beards?
