Love your energy and always rooting for you Sam! Please don’t burn yourself out, can’t wait to see you compete this year and see what you bring to the table. #TeamYoYoYo
Every time I see Sam or Lionel in that 25yd pool while everyone else is swimming in Olympic pools I already prepare myself for all those emotional "why do I suck at swimming" videos coming up by June til October
@SamYoYoYoLong yes and no.. Lets do the math and assume you stop swimming 1yd to the wall and get an advantage by kicking of the wall the next 5yds, then you will not have proper impact in 6yds out of 25 which makes 25% of your whole training. If we are honest we all know training in an 25m pool is way easier than in an Olympic pool. 1.500 world record in 50m: 14:30 1.500 world record in 25m: 14:06
Sam, this is in no way any attempt to criticize your training, but if a swimmer like Florian Wellbrock who holds the world record on 1.500 in a 25m pool has an advantage of 2 seconds pee 100, we can assume that a weaker swimmer like you or Lionel will have aprox an advantage of 4-5 seconds per 100m, which is exactly the difference what might make you catch that front pack in an 70.3 or Ironman. Maybe you may think about it ?
@@wolfgangkneidl3371 I’m not disagreeing with you. Certainly swimming long course meters would help but I think overall it’s a fairly small factor. Plenty of American athletes are front pack swimmers and swim SCY. I am thankful I have LCM once a week from October-March and 4x a week from March-October.
Really loved this and appreciated the end when you shared what gets you out the door every day (heck training session). Can’t wait to see what 2025 brings for you and your family!
Great video - I really hope that you’re also getting significant feedback on your arm technique (reach, catch, pull and follow through) and head and body position and it’s not only blasting up and down the pool. I swam competitively when I was young; now just a veteran age grouper, and I know you MUST get the technical aspect in place. I really hope you crack this - great that you’re following Jan’s advice - best wishes from Switzerland!💪💪💪👍🙂
I once met you at 70.3 and said hands you would win and you did. I also mentioned I am sure you would be a world champion, and I am sure you will. Stay focused and live the life.
Wow so I am such an idiot for not factoring in the possibility that you could have had bike accidents that hurt your shoulder. I am so sorry! But I am glad to hear that you are taking the time to strengthen that right arm. You are taking on the mindset of a swimmer well. Building up to speed is a great tactic. Love the enthusiasm from the guy with the biggest smile and greatest positivity in all of triathlon! And soooooo stoked to hear your taking the coaching and approach so well! Yo! Yo! Yo! Let's go go GO!
Sam can you or Justin comment on the use of an endless pool vs a real pool in terms of fitness - efficiency. (is it just a treadmill in swimming etc) I feel we really do not see professionals like yourself using them. Lionel did for a while in Ontario, but you don't see videos that you guys are really utilizing them or are you? Would be great to see a video on whether these are good tools or a thumbs down. Joe skipper did a video on his, but it was more regarding cost. Would be interesting to hear the pro's and con's. All the best Sam to you and your family! Best Regards, Ryan
Be great to know what road you do this kind of ride on Sam? I’m coming back to Oro Valley in mid March to enjoy some warmer weather training and prepare for my first time at 70.3 Oceanside. Best Wishes, Sandy from Scotland 🏴
@ Thanks! 🙏 Ah, the road to Silver Bell Mine! I loved riding there a few times last year, nice and quiet. Actually, should be good for Oceanside as it has the hill up to the mine 👍 I admire your courage Sam, taking on the T100 for another year in order to grow and make yourself an even better all round triathlete. All the best for another great year!🤞
Sam to a good swimmer, what’s your secret? Swimmer: “I am in the pool every day for 4 hours.” Sam: “I need to think like a good swimmer!” Then goes for a 5 hr bike/run brick workout. 😂😂😂
@@SamYoYoYoLong fair point. We also don't need to see the details of your swim practices if they are technique days; only the highlights really. I do get excited for triathlon season when we see your hype for it!
Max efforts and 80 to 90% efforts will do a great deal to solidify your poor technique. You CANNOT improve your physiology enough to overcome your poor technique. 90 to 100 minutes of swimming when you need hours per day of technique. An archer approached a master asking how to become a champion. For the first year, the master had the student only draw the bow, never once releasing an arrow. Sam draws the bow twice then shoots arrows all day. I am appealing to you based on a decade conversations with national, world, and olympic caliber swimmers I have known, including a gold medalist! Take a year if needed! Your run and bike will come back. Do not be like Lionel Sanders, perpetually chasing.

Couldn't understand what the swim coach was saying except "motivated". Nothing of substance. Afterwards, in the car you noted what you're working on and that you were focusing on technique with another coach. Good to hear! I was expecting to see a lot of technique drills, but conditioning is important, too. Maybe you do those in other sessions.

Quality over quantity. 6k quality yards >> 15 k (or even 8 to 10k) garbarge yards for a professional triathlete. Also bro isn't an Olympic swimmer.
