Not one to comment with hate but truly love this shock so gotta advocate. Haven’t ran any other cane creek coil shock, so can’t compare there. Personally find it to have an incredible pedal platform. Have owned since week it was released, prefer it over the push and dhx2. ran it on my rascal, under stroked on 2 different Levos. Absolutely beat it and still dialed. Ran up to 80 psi without any issues and was boosting the local dirt jumps. Haven’t ran one on a larger travel bike, may handle things differently. Will have one soon for big bike. But rode it on 130 rascal for multiple bike park days. Ate up brake bumps far better than push or dhx2 I previously had. It may not have that numb dead rear end feeling, but that’s the point. It’s meant to have fun and absolutely rip. Love the hot take and truly giving your opinion. the industry definitely needs it. Well done video and learned a few things. Subscribed
Thanks for posting. Always 2 sides of the coin. Glad to hear your dialed. FYI the Creek told me not a single psi over 30 it will damage a o ring in the air can. fYI I didn’t love the push shock. On DhX2 now.
@@rollingsteadymedia6557 curious what your setting are? Mine is the 55x210 so not a long travel by today’s standards. I want it to ride right, but I’m fighting with it
I used dvo ls springs on the Tigon and it works OK without a problem. To my knowledge if you want to use springs under 350lbs dvo spring is the only option for it. After getting the tigo I disassembled the air can and put slick honey on the o ring and it helped the small bump. The reason that the tigon has higher breakaway force comparing to the Kitsuma is because the damper rod diameter is 12.7mm vs 8mm. Given the same ifp pressure, if the kitsuma has 28lbs of breakaway force. Then tigon shall have 44. Rest of the force is coming from air can o ring and ifp o ring.
@@OtterMTBtech This is a great question! EXT uses extremely low ifp pressure of 55psi and cane creek uses 11-12 bar which is roughly 160-175 psi. EXT diameter is 14mm vs kitsuma 8mm. The diameter ratio squared is rougly 14/8 * 14/8=3. So EXT 55psi ifp force is equivalent to Kitsuma 3*55=165psi which land in the cane creek ifp pressure guideline. So it should be expected that they have similar breakaway force.
Interesting. I’m always looking at different shock brands and options for coil shocks. Just purchased a Rocky Mountain instinct powerplay c70. The design allows it to be very coil friendly.
Interesting to hear your thoughts on this. I am running one on my Ripmo with a Cascade link. 550 lb spring (Calculators have me at 525) with no air and minimum compression, sitting at around 28% sag. As the Ripmo is very progressive with the Cascade link, I find it to have very good small bump as well as support. I think using a heavier spring is better for progressive bikes. I do find the mid stroke damping to be slightly too harsh though.
I don’t think the Tigon likes progressive frames. Haven’t tried it. Right path with no air in it. Problem is your heavy guy to be running 550 lbs spring like myself. So you need a slow rebound, the ramp tube prevented me from adding compression so being stuck with slow rebound is really bad to performance. If you’re happy with the ride don’t let me change your mind.
The kitsuma launched with an ifp. It lasted 20 hours. A retro fit bladder was released and the current ones are all bladder. I sold it after warranty and bought an ohlins. I wouldn't buy another cane creek. It did feel great though in the short time it worked.
@@OtterMTBtech i was told by a uk suspension tuner they tested the shock pre release and told cc they would have issue with the ifp design. Obviously they took no notice as my ifp was scored within 20 hours. A kit was released to replace the ifp with a bladder. Additionally there was a tech bulletin about under torqued bodies i think it was? Basically the shock self destructed on my kenevo. Never buy a gen1 product. Such a let down seeing how good the coil db was.
I put the Tigon on my Revel Rail 29. Took me a minute to get it right, but my goodness is it right now. 550# spring with about 2.5 turns of preload and about 23-35 PSI. HSC is a quarter turn softer than what it came with. I completely disagree with your statement that it's not good for flowy fast jump trails. I believe CC tunes these specifically for each bike and rider. Perhaps moving it back and forth between bikes means the tune isn't matched to that bike's leverage.
There is no custom tunes. That is direct from Cane creek. Fairly likely that you damaged the air can running more than 30 psi. Open it up and check the o ring
My Kenevo flexed the shock really bad so mine is worse off, I told Cane creek right away to warn others and speindex it’s. Bummer. My shock worked fine with a hole in it
@@OtterMTBtech I'm gonna be up in cuyuna riding for 3 days so hope I don't mess it up beyond repair. Hopefully cane Creek will replace that piece when I send it in for service. I'm running it at 760 lbs and no air pressure so I'll have to got the cane Creek spring in 650 and pump it to 30 to hopefully get the right sag
You’re a big boy. 😆. DO NOT go above 30 psi. I did and it sucked, but forgot include it can damage the o ring in there. I would say EXT spring goes up that high, but I know that spring will be loose fit. Only DVO spring has the same inner size as cane creek spring
I originally wanted the tigon for the Jeckyll but it wasn't available right meow in 205 x 65 plus the usualy trusty dude at s4 suspension (my nearest local specialist) told me that the ride was hard to tune and it would probably feel too harsh for what I had in mind I'd be better with the kistuma air instead. It seems like hydraulic bottom out is a better way to handle end stroke ramp than this. The only draw for this coil just seems to be for bikes with long yokes that want to run a coil
Have just purchased mine. First ride today. Your thoughts scare me. Went with smaller lbs spring rate ( yes, VALT is the only spring fits, have tried, EXT, Ohlins, FOX SLS ) and going to ride air chamber empty though.
@@OtterMTBtech I am a coil guy ( using EXT storia and DHX2 in my other bikes ) . Have not noticed any issues after yesterdays ride. Following your recommendations I rode with an empty air chamber ( commencal meta TR 2024 ). Still dialing in but so far so good.
I am after 2 rides. Empty chamber, 500 lbs spring rate, 98 kg kitted. Exo tyres. Meta TR, 140mm travel frame. Supriningly well on long and not very bumpy trails. Very poppy. Very quite. Harsh on braking bumps and roots. Outstanding climbing switch. Have just mount 450 lbs spring, added 30 psi, increased LSR and HSC. Tommorow will hit some trails again. Keep in touch:-)
Did you try the x-fusion H3C? It was like 250$ (320$CDN) new in 185x55 so I scooped it up and tried it with a (55mm stroke) 550 to 670 valt progressive spring on the giant trance x29, it's extremely plush and responsive, lacking high speed rebound tho ... Needs more holes or thinner shims I guess 😅

A tigon has pop like an air shock due to the friction of the aircan seals. Which is why you didn't like adding compression.. that friction being gone on a coil is most of why they're so supple. Looks like cane creek created a gimmick that kinda sucks

You have that backwards you want a heavier spring for linear bikes
@@thinkaboutit3011 For Tigon I find the opposite as I have tried a 500lb spring
@mailman98 most likely what your feeling is the heavier spring keeps you out of the ramp up so it fills more plush. What psi are you running?
