You are 100% correct. Most people who opt for a vinyl floor like in the new Bronco have never taken the interior of a vehicle apart and seen all of wiring that is run in random places for seats, the center console, the rear of the vehicle, ceiling, etc.
this is a problem that comes from stock vinyl, I agree that if you get a stock vehicle due to mold and mildew problems, I don't want to fuck with mold. Lastly the problem of trapped water causing rust and a rotting floor. Condensation and trapped water is for sure a problem. However, installing and making a custom vinyl floor would be best. If possible get a cheap interior model, pull the carpet, and add paint, layer of liner on top, and add run off duct and a hole to let water drip out. Add vinyl top and if you really need to a rubber mat. This solution is appealing to me cause I DIY my car and don't buy premade setups or packages.
I pulled the nasty ass, stained tan colored carpet out of my super duty and installed vinyl. So much better. I've put vinyl or had vinyl as an option in every one of my trucks and work vans. Carpet does not belong in either of those.
Have a king ranch. Specifically ordered the carpet delete (aka vinyl floors). I will never ever go back to carpets in a truck. Owned a food trailer. Had a case of chicken leak in the floor. Even with rubber mats it got on the floor. Cant even imagine what that would have smelled like in august on carpet if I wasn’t able to hose it out.
From experience, a truck was never meant to have carpet. Even with mats, carpeting will be shot before you realize it. As a matter of fact, I just now got finished ordering Vinyl to replace a super nasty, cigarette smoke laden carpet in a Ford Ranger that I recently picked up as a project. I thought that I'd be able to clean it up using an extractor and steam. The further I removed interior parts for cleaning and before I even got to the seats, realized that it just wasn't going to happen. Not only was the carpet Super Nasty smelling and looking, it was worn pretty bad, even under the floor mats. There was one spot where the floor is starting to rust by the lower door trim because it had plugged the drain cut with carpet fibers. It'll be in the trash heap tomorrow. Using floor mats over vinyl flooring is the way to go. And a good tip is to cut a strip of tool box liner to go under the mats so that they don't slip around easily. You can use spray adhesive to stick it to the mats if you want, I don't. Just a couple of squares of the liner. I've had my personal set of truck floor mats since 1984 and wish I'd have bought many more. They haven't made good, quality floor mats like that since then. Even the most advanced, high dollar, so called Tech mats don't even compare to them in terms of quality, durability and longevity. (Thanks a cotton-pickin' lot, Bill Clinton.) Most cleaning I have to do is with a whisk broom every week or so if needed. In the spring, I pull out the mats, vacuum all the nooks and crannies, mist it all down with 18:1 Super Clean, brush any stuck on cruddy/muddy/sticky stuff with a tire brush and wipe it up with towels . I use a spray bottle of clean water to wipe it all down again to get all of the Super Clean and any remaining spots. Then I spray on a light coat of 303 Aerospace, let it set for a bit, wipe it up and she's good to go and looks great for another year.
After listening to your theory pertaining to moisture trap under vinyl floors, I can't help to mention that carpet has a vinyl base. Therefore it will be exactly the same if moisture gets trap underneath carpet. Right?

Vinyl is perfect for truck floors. If you're only trying to say that mats OVER vinyl are a good idea, then you're not wrong. But advocating for carpet? Really?
I’m down with vinyl flooring moisture problems on my 95 Ford F150. The truck smells and there is collection of moisture under the vinyl. Wonder where I can buy carpet that would fit that truck?
When I bought my F-150 I looked at the XL STX or whatever popular package that was. The red one with the giant black grill looked like a monster ready to eat the cars in front of it. But I didn’t like the rubbery floors or the seat height so I moved up to the XLT with power seats.
Vinyl flooring is excellent for work trucks or people who go off roading, when I had vinyl flooring I wast something sticky and I pressure washer it plus it dry up so fast
@@tomwalters5802 yeah. Because its not a normal service... Best route would be to buy carpet salvage from a reck and diy... Or Find a shop willing to pull seats and center council.

Definitely not something you think about. Especially if there's condensation or a hole or it gets past the edges. Definitely more durable than carpet, but you're definitely right about it not drying out. Luckily rust won't be an issue (for Ford) but mold will be.
Correct me if most are not this way but my PU has carpet but when you flip it over its solid rubber looks no different than the vinyl floor on the bottom. That being the case it is no more breathable than the vinyl just harder to clean?
How did your plow handle the storm yesterday. It was heavy and wet. Could you stack decently with the heavy snow? My boss had trouble stacking a little bit
It performed great, it was harder to stack for sure... But I've gotten used to it. I was out when it was light and fluffy and it's stacked a lot better. Once it got wet became a little harder.
Most carpet has a rubber like backing that also doesn't let water out. It's really no different. How fn wet are your feet that water is building up inside the door channel lol?
I was thinking of getting a RAM1500 when my 2012 F150 (purchased brand new) was nearing term, when maintenance costs start piling on. Only problem is, this whole time the only thing I've had to replace on it so far was a shot blower motor resistor and brake pads. If I had gotten a RAM1500 back in 2012, I probably would have gone through two of them by now. Don't get me wrong, I'd love a Hemi one day. They're great engines. It's just that everything built around them fall apart far quicker.
I like the carpet floor with carpet mats vibe, just feels better to me. The mats have a rubber backing, and when they get dirty and worn, I replace them. I just ordered a 2020 XL with the carpet.
