Just this morning, i had to choose between Blanton's and JJ Bowman single barrel, for an allocation event at my local shop. Blanton's was $85, Bowman was $70. I went with the Bowman but wasnt sure if that was smart. You're making me feel more intelligent!
Finally! Someone who does their research. I hear so many people say it's just Buffalo Trace or Blanton's juice, when they couldn't be more wrong! I heard JJB was proprietary from an interview that the bourbon pursuit did with Brian Prewitt and he actually stated in that interview it wasn't Buffalo Trace distillate.
I was at A. Smith Bowman last weekend and there was a hilarious bit near the end of the tour where the guide said "Someone had a question about Buffalo Trace. So..." and everyone in the tour looked around quizzically because _nobody_ brought up BT. 😂😂😂
Yessir, I saw that interview! I wish everyone would just release their mashbills, but until then, all we know for sure is that it's not BT mashbill 1 or 2.
I recommend doing a blind of JJB and EHT. Four of us over here did that recently with an EHT SiB. Two of us thought EHT SiB might be slightly older but *extremely* similar, one of us couldn't pick because they were so close, and one of us couldn't tell them apart.
I was just thinking about this! Was debating whether to do EHT small batch or SiB but you just talked me into the SiB. That will likely be my next video, appreciate your thoughts!
Great blind! Have Blantons and have had a bottle of JJB which I loved and is sadly gone now and so far I can’t find it again in GA. Haven’t tried Elmer.
Elmer was one of my favorite 90 proof bottles back in the day before the market went crazy, but def not worth secondary. JJB is getting hard to find everywhere! So annoying! You'll probably be able to find one in GA before I can in VA.
Stagg for 80 is probably the best deal, just based on what they sell for on secondary. The rest you can probably find again around those prices, or a little higher.
@@averagejoeswhiskey Is it good and worth that even at that price. A friend paid 140 for blantons, it is not worth that. I can get that at the store for 80. Oh did i mention russell 13 is there for $140 now. I know anyone in bourbon land would snap it up. I'm very shy and don't want disappointment.
Dude are these real questions? I feel like I'm being trolled here, if not I apologize. Russell's 13 for 140 is below msrp, I'd buy that all day. Staggs vary batch to batch but any batch for 80 I'd say is worth it. Feel free to email me or send me a DM with any questions. Always happy to help my man.
Was a bit surprised with Blantons coming in third I’ve had ETL and it was just eeh to me. Not a 40 bottle to me more like 30. And with the higher proof I’m pretty sure most would place it first. I’ve had the Bowman small batch and it’s better than either BT and Weller SR. By stilling it again in the pot still helps with more flavor but you can tell it’s pot stilled. All pot stilled whiskey has a very distinct flavor.
I think this particular bottle of Blanton's is just not great, I noticed the color is especially light. I thought going in that the bottle of ETL was exceptional and the John J was very good but not quite on the same level. Always happy to be wrong though!

Don’t follow the hype, follow your palate. Plenty of good bourbon and whiskey that can beat bigger brands

That's hilarious 😂. To be fair though, I bet they get an obscene amount of questions related to BT.

@@averagejoeswhiskey I'm curious to hear your thoughts on it. Cheers!🥃
Im hunting for a bottle of the Bowman today - Thanks Joe
If you find it, grab one for me too.

Just saw bowman on the shelf for 65, blantons for 80.
I prefer Buffalo Trace to Blantons. I'm going to have to try John J. Bowman.
I hear you, Blanton's can be very hit or miss depending on the barrel. The bottle I have open is not spectacular.
stagg jr for 80, ecbp for 65, larceny bp for 60. what would i try, haven't had any of these.

Contact info is in the channel description.
The last two ETL bottles I saw in DC and MD were $449.99. I laughed out loud. 😂
Jesus dude 🤯....didn't even realize it got that bad. I guess DC is known for their museums!
@@averagejoeswhiskey Yeah, it's silly. I expected that in DC, but was surprised by the little shop outside of Frederick, MD.
Definitely an oaky afterbirth on that first one
😂

Rock Hill Farms is the real winner, but I wish JBB was easier to find.
Me too! I think I'm going to blind it again against some 100 proof BT single barrels and see if it still holds up.
