@Doug Kirk what about when a company decides to cut down an entire section of trees/forest to build roads and buildings? Any nests are destroyed in the process.

Great video. I love baby cardinals! A few years ago I saved an extremely young baby cardinal who happened to wander into the neighbor's yard and they had a really mean dog. We lured him over to our side of the fence and put him in a box. We carried him back to his nest in the rose arbor. And what did he do after that? Jumped right back out of his nest the little bugger. He wasn't nearly old enough to go out on his own but luckily his parents came back and he was fine and we got to watch him grow up in our yard. His name was Scrapper.
The baby poop is in "fecal sacs". These are mucous sacks like disposable diapers. The first couple days the parents the sacs. After that they take the sacs out of the nest and drop them somewhere to keep the nest clean. When the babies start to fly their poop changes to the splattering bird poop that we all know and love to see on our car windows.
the first cardinal Ive ever seen built a nest literally feet above my front door yet I only saw it once or twice a year. Now certain animals and insects dont even appear in my city. No hawks, crows, jays, woodpeckers, gnats, fireflies, moths, butterflies, nor chipmunks. I use to love sitting on my porch cause I always saw a rare animal.
When the chicks are young, they have a hard time digesting the grub completely. The parents can gain some nutritional value by ingesting their droppings, but later on it's probably more efficient to start dumping them.

great video! I was searching for any info on male cardinals, I found an injured one today. I don't know what happenned, but he has an injury and is blind in his left eye. I want to keep him long enough to let him learn how to get through life with one eye. the sounds from your video had him looking, and using that eye, which is good a good thing. I won't keep him long, and want to release him when all the Cardinals are out feeding so he can find his family. I tried to see if he would fly away, but he just sat on my finger. maybe tomorrow morning he will feel better, we can try again. nj hasn't got a wildlife rehab for birds in middlesex county, so I am on my own. these birds are so smart! so beautiful up close! thanks again for that video!
+David Brown this was months ago, and sadly, the bird must have had severe head injuries, the poor thing did not make it thru the night. he had some kind of a seizure. I was so sad. but thanks! I am not far from bridgewater, and you never know - there may come a time when I will need help with a bird again!

+Jo Alwood (BIRDS AND THEN SOME) Thanks! This was a lucky find in my yard. I clamped a mono-pod onto a step ladder to get high enough to shoot into the nest and zoomed in from a good distance away.
+FrontYardVideo Very interesting. I don't own a monopod, nor do I know if one would support my camcorder (six and a half pounds even without a telephoto lens). But I was trying last spring to figure out how to get high enough to get a good shot of a Flicker who regularly visited and played bongos on a transformer in our back yard. Your shots are so rock steady, even using just a monopod. Hmm. I'll have to look into that. Thanks.

the female is brown. the male is bright red. for most birds the males have prettier colors.
Really, did you come to that conclusion all by yourself?
Yes, feminism would be triggered
Nah I think males have brighter colours because when they have to defend the nest they look more dangerous.
Plus, the females blend in more easily. The males may look prettier, but a predator’s gonna see them from a mile away.

Of all the birds hatching and feeding, this video is the best of all time👍
Wow, thank you

Hello! Video good. Thank for the video.
Very sweet 🐤😘
great video!
+mamaboo cee --Hi...I live summers in NJ..Did you let the Cardinal go away? My girlfriend lives in Bridgewater and I can go and pick it up..
+David Brown this was months ago, and sadly, the bird must have had severe head injuries, the poor thing did not make it thru the night. he had some kind of a seizure. I was so sad. but thanks! I am not far from bridgewater, and you never know - there may come a time when I will need help with a bird again!
mamaboo cee --Im creating a site to make Bradley Gardens a Bird Sanctuary...2 years ago i started feeding Blue Jays..then others...now i have more visitors than ever..My driveway is like a walk in the forrest..I also take care of the pest that kills songbirds..Songbirds were threatened...too many cats and Tree Rats killing them..I have to join a club soon..
hungry cute babies. god bless!
what a lovely video. super sharing.
What superb footage of the nest! HOW did you manage to get so close without disturbing them?
Thanks.
