I really appreciate how Mark prioritizes finding true happiness through gratitude and working hard to reach self-actualization, instead of chasing money and fame.
I don't know if he mentioned working hard? What I took away form this interview is rather pace yourself and you won't burn out, don't make decisions that put too much stress on yourself and stay pretty stable and solid before you move forward with the next step. I think when you're happy, inspired and in the flow like he seems to be, it might look to others like you're working "hard" because you might have fun and do a lot of things for many hours, but I don't think it feels hard. If it feels hard, you're probably off your mark.

Philip Defranco shared Mark Robers very first RUclips video on Day 1 of it being posted. Great to see how successful he's become. Great guy, I'm still subbed ♥
Colin and Samir's videos give the feeling that they are not only talking about RUclips community and RUclips Creator life, but it feels like you can imply the learnings from these videos in your real life. Like I'm not a creator but just a casual watcher, still the things you understand from these videos can be very much related to real world, it feels like it is teaching me real life management. Because, as an example, you not only get burnt out if you are a creator and are tiring yourself out of the dopamine you used to get from your work initially, but also in daily life, since everyone is applying some form of creativity to their daily work and they do get burnt out eventually. So the things they make us understand is really great and helpful as they can be easily morphed into guidance you can use in real life as well.
yes, exactly my thought process. The idea that I have input more notes into my phone during this podcast than any other point in my life is incredible considering my career path is, at the moment, completely disconnected from and archaic in relation to the subject material presented here. I truly applaud Mark, Colin, and Samir for providing such content for other people around the world. I really do love how much each one of them have contributed to the creation of interperspective thinking, while they may all be in one broad domain (RUclips), they all encourage their audiences to explore the perspectives that can apply to the fields beyond their own, good on them.
23:00 he isnt physically making the parts on the rover but he's inspiring thousands of people to become engineers who could work at NASA, 1 man quitting to inspire thousands who might apply for jobs there seems so incredible to me
Honestly, Samir is an exceptional interviewer. Seems like every interview, regardless of genre, he asks some astounding domain specific questions. To me, he could pass as a jack of all trades. Love the channel, guys!
Mark Rober's approach is so refreshing and I can connect with this in a way I haven't with every creator you guys interview. Love hearing all the perspectives. Thank you for what you do!

This was such an incredible video! As a techy, geeky, engineer mindset, parent who is also very intrigued with the world of content creators; this video checks so many boxes for me. My son, who's 7, and I are huge Mark Rober fans. The second I saw his crunch labs boxes, I signed up my son. It's been so hard for me to not give it to him yet, it's going to be a Christmas present. Getting to see a more personal, deep dive, into Mark only solidifies my interest in him. Y'all have done such a great job capturing many of the great qualities on why so many people like myself look up to Mark. Edit: We need a Mark Rober Shirt, "It's a feature, not a bug!"
Mark is really honest and acknowledges in a very real world way concepts I feel that I feel most creators that don’t have experience working outside of media don’t relate to/understand relatively to other roles. He’s really a gem and incredibly humble while deserving every bit of his success ❤️
This is probably the most inspirational video I've ever seen! The amount of applicable knowledge this video contains is insane. Thank you so much Mark, and thanks Colin and Samir for making this interview happen.
This is genuinely one of the greatest interviews I’ve ever watched. The questions struck the perfect balance between pointed and open-ended, and conversation felt extremely natural. Hats off to everyone involved!
I love people who are free to capture their passion. Mark’s glitter bomb series sold me. It’s beyond engineering and extends to nailing thief’s. The squirrel project was diabolically funny. He brings entertainment to the next level.
First of all, well done Colin and Samir! I’m usually the kind of quite observer but this is probably the best piece of content which I’ve seen lately. There was so much learnings in it - I don’t even know where to start. When mark talked about the part of comparing yourself to the Mr. beasts out there and also seeing RUclips as a creative outlet as well as which feedback is important and to be grateful for where and what you are were the most important messages. Because thinking about this the wrong way is what caused me feeling paralysed and suffering from early stages of depression. I got myself help and this video came just at the right time for me to think about happiness, career choices and life in general in a different way! Thank you! Keep up the good work, I love your channel!
I have a gratitude journal too. It really keeps you grounded even on the bad days. In this field, whether you’re in it for a job or a hobby, it’s very easy to stray away from yourself. Mark is such a good speaker 🙌🏻
I tried it but it felt really forced after a few days. It was really hard to come up with things i was grateful for. Is that something that gets easier?
Came from the editing podcast. Absolute vision and banger of an episode, what an awesome way to help pioneer the next gen of creators. This content can and likely will change the world. Thank you for sharing, my mind is blown.
You guys are seriously one of the best creators on RUclips... Your questions are to the point but they leave it for enough interpretation so that the person on the other side will give you the correct answer
I listened to the whole podcast already but just wanted to come here and say, this was an incredible interview. I’m not an old creator by any means, but a little older than peers perhaps, so to see the longevity and continuing fun that Mark has with his channel is so so inspiring. Just stuff like “being able to make a kid’s day is a superpower” makes you feel like you too can make that sort of positive influence in the world.
The recurring Jetski joke was absolutely killing me. Fantastic interview guys!! Such an amazing experience. Knowledgeable, entertaining, and so much more!

I've always liked and felt like I related to Mark Rober, but could never quite say why. Then to hear that his mom passed away from the same disease that mine had around the same time, it makes a lot more sense now. And the way he talks about his mom and they impact she had on him even though she never got to see it come to fruition really made me smile.
i agree with mark about keeping the creative process mostly to himself, i like the home video style videos a lot and he has the quality of videos to consistently pull in views
Amazing - I just couldn't turn this one off... Felt like Mark was really speaking to me. I'm close to graduating college with an engineering degree, have some creative projects in my off time (makin music lol), but I feel like having the security blanket of stable income allows me to create better/more freely instead of creating out of stress to put food on the table. I liked my internships, Mark liked Apple/Nasa, and this was the first time I've felt like someone spoke to the extra motivation you have from working in engineering while having real/serious creative passions on the weekends and weeknights. I like both. I think I need both. I dream of a world where everyone could have access to/desire for some basic level of technical education and interest, while still allowing themselves to be artists. If even half the world population had even a 6-month coding/automation class and worked 20 hours a week on it, we could solve so many of the world problems, and if the same people allowed themselves make art/create, they might be happy enough to want to learn hard skills and help the world in the first place. I think Mark is the future.
I looked on your channel earlier today wondering if I had missed the new video or not and then I remembered that thumbnail post, returned to the homepage and look at that, a new video!
I think Mark is spot on with jogging on his content releases as it also keeps his audience at a jog with keeping us interested and not overwhelming us with content to often that we will get sick of.
There’s sooooo many “juicy nuggets” in this pod. I’ve heard Mark’s TED talk, but hearing it again in a more informal setting resonated so much more. Super Mario, Dopamine, Gratitude, Feature Not a Bug - so many good take always. I have two sons and we build Crunch Labs boxes together. They have endless fun using their coin spinners or launching catapults. This pod was a gem. Thanks for doing what you do!
Poor Bill Nye. Mark said "growing up there was Bill Nye but there wasn't any cool engineers"; but that's exactly what Bill Nye is, an engineer. I mean, obviously he's a science educator, but his degree and past is as an engineer.
Hearing Mark say that the reason I'm creating videos that no one watches currently (creative outlet, learn new skills, etc.) was something I needed to hear. Thanks so much for this interview, and thanks Mark!
Iv'e been hoping for this interview ever since the tour video dropped... this is gonna be good, Also what mark said about having time to edit but not starting until the very last possible time... I can relate to that way too much
Mark is just so inspiring. He was the person other than my dad who told the message that you can do anything as long as you want it by heart. He just gave me the final confidence boost that I will make it to university after grade 13 and will be getting my engineering degree in road maintenance and building.
Thank you guys for the effort you put into prepping for these conversations. I'm constantly finding myself more engaged in these videos than I thought I'd be.
I hope you guys continue to see the growth you deserve.I would love to see the things you do when your subscriber count enables you to chase ideas that otherwise might be too risky
My son found Mark several years ago, and since then we have enjoyed doing many things in the fields of science he promotes. We have reenacted several of his projects and so so may others. If we had internet worth a dang we would have uploaded my son's videos to share with the community and our friends and fam. Anyway, Mark is a smart fella and he is dropping some truth about the search for happiness.
44:10 This is such a great observation. Mark works with sustained, consistent, long-term effort, and I think that comes from his work as an engineer. Engineers are constantly going through trial and error over a long amount of time, not getting an idea and immediately building it
The thing I like the most about this episode was that slow approach and making the things that he wants to. The news channel might mention a story but not be able to go very deep but then you get a podcast like criminal that changes a million people's minds on an idea. Squirrels don't change a million people's minds but I'm so glad that I saw every last one of those epic backyard squirrel stuff. Admittedly the newest one was kind of hokey but I still loved every minute of it. And I can't even say that about the best of creators.
2 minutes in the video... I had to pause and let the tears drop. This hit way too close to home, my Mom passed in March. Oof, alright, let's get back to learning and listening. Tks Colin, Samir and Mark!
Mark is great, I'm so glad we got to see a version of him that's less animated and more personable. He's already really relatable in his videos but it just feels awesome to hear him share his opinions as just a dude and not the super peppy video guy we're used to seeing.
This is one of the best interviews - nay, conversations - I’ve heard because it includes philosophy and ideas for both a creative yet humble mindset and how to go through life at large. Your questions and talking points were so good in both construction and yield, and it shows in how much it got Mark to share his inner thoughts and ideas, most of which wouldn’t likely air on his own channel. Well done.
Mark saying “There’s no rush” is a MSG many creators miss and eventually burn out. I recently Unsubscribed from hundreds of channels last night and I kept you guys just because of how much value I get. Thank you for all you have done for the creator economy 🙏🏼
When you watch videos of long form interviews with big creators like Mark Rober, you can see why they got so big. So humble. So nice. That natural way about the person transcends through the camera on their own videos ;D
16:10 I play obbies and this effect is literally the only reason why i don't give up. In obbies, there are no points, so I can do it over and over again without thinking it is failure.
man, him speaking about his mom dying kinda made me emotional because hes actually the last memory i have of my grandma like being alive before she passed from cancer. i mean, i saw her in the hospital but her head was not in it's normal place at all and she was on the brink of fading. my last genuine memory was us watching mark rober on her tv and her laughing at it.
Thank you Mark, you inspired me to keep on going. I've been making RUclips videos for 6 years and all my money goes right back into RUclips mainly to my editors I've had to invest into camera equipment and other things like that. But it's a good thing I still have my career in repairing electronics.
It's so nice to hear Mark talk about this business and how he views it. I also love how much he acknowledges the things he can actively change like being prepared with finances and managing the number of people he hires. This is such a great example of the #GrattitudeChallenge 30:22.
I never thought Mark's story would be so relatable. I also have a work in big tech. And a youtube filmmaking is my passion. I have money and time to do what I love. I think additional pressure could kill it easily
Been listening to this on the side and actually stopped what i was doing and rewinded it to start again from the beginning. Wow Mark is interresting to listen to and your questions fit extremely well to the flow of the interview
46:17 Mark has a very different mindset from the modern tech startup or RUclips creator. Rather than jumping into the deep end and taking a risk, Mark already has a profitable business. It’s like the opposite of Netflix

I couldn't agree more with Mark Rober's take on the proper approach to RUclips. My channel isn't anything notable, it hasn't and may never bring in any solid source of income. I'm not well known and never will be. But, through the experience of my channel, I have had so many incredible opportunities, made so many amazing friends and met so many people.
So glad to hear Mark is working on 9-10 videos right now. Can't wait to see them!
Nice! I've been waiting for this one. Mark is the definition of an innovator!
This was beautiful and extremely inspiring. Thanks guys!
Lol
Hi mMike❤
44:10 This is such a great observation. Mark works with sustained, consistent, long-term effort, and I think that comes from his work as an engineer. Engineers are constantly going through trial and error over a long amount of time, not getting an idea and immediately building it
Mark is one wise gentleman.
That's true
yes indeed
Yes
59:45 mark I don't think we'll ever get bored of your videos
Well done.
❤
Mark saying “There’s no rush” is a MSG many creators miss and eventually burn out. I recently Unsubscribed from hundreds of channels last night and I kept you guys just because of how much value I get. Thank you for all you have done for the creator economy 🙏🏼
I LOVE that Mark talks in analogies so often, it makes understanding his thought process SO much more captivating
Guys... I really didn't come here to CRY in the first 5 minutes. Mark is amazing. His mother did a great job
When you watch videos of long form interviews with big creators like Mark Rober, you can see why they got so big.
So humble. So nice. That natural way about the person transcends through the camera on their own videos ;D
I've been watching Mark since the iPad costume. He's inspirational and a huge role model for me both as a maker and just as a decent human being.
The best podcast yet!! I love how grounded this man is and wise to his ambitions. Great questions too C&S. Congrats!
You guys went with the smile and text thumbnail lmaooo
It's so nice to hear Mark talk about this business and how he views it. I also love how much he acknowledges the things he can actively change like being prepared with finances and managing the number of people he hires. This is such a great example of the #GrattitudeChallenge 30:22.
Damn this channel has come so far, so happy for you guys. Love watching the channels I love blow up.
I've watched Mark for years and I was today years old when I learned that he ever worked for Apple.
Mark is a genius at doing high level videos while keeping the backyard project vibe.
46:17 Mark has a very different mindset from the modern tech startup or RUclips creator. Rather than jumping into the deep end and taking a risk, Mark already has a profitable business. It’s like the opposite of Netflix
It’s cool you decided to merge the thumbnails after the feedback on the poll!
Learned about you guys from a Mr. Beast interview. Surprise!
Really, really enjoy what you do and the doors you allow us behind with your content.
Thank you!
Love all the interviews guys!Really informative!Just a small suggestion if the seating could be like a round table with views of all participants together it makes it look more casual and gripping.Currently there are too many cuts to & fro.
I think Mark Rober should be the new Bill Nye. I think learning at school should be more fun and I think kids would enjoy school more.
Incredible how you guys add B-roll to your podcasts. I had this idea for mine too, lot's of work so it'll have to come after i start scaling. But super impressive to see it in action, love you guys!
Mark is so naturally funny and easy to listen to. Hope you guys do more content with him one day!

Mark talking about turtle tipping was not on my bingo card for this show.
Mark Robers videos are S+ tier
I love Mark's amazing combination of brilliance, authenticity and humility. Thank you Colin and Samir.
It has been more rewarding than typical success would ever be!
You never know the full measure of the impact you have on others lives - That resonated with me so hard! Very wise and humbled man💙
i honestly love your channel. Its just so watchable. im not really sure how to explain it
I see you took our idea and combined both pictures for the thumbnail. :) :) :)
Adds in the first 60 seconds is not a good idea …
This was a super good interview. A lot of good lessons in it, and you can tell that even though he comes off as a positive and happy person, it took him time and discipline to get there. Respect to Mark Rober.
This is my first video of yours but it won’t be my last. You two are great interviewers. This was a fascinating conversation and topic.
40:54 You can tell Mark thinks like an engineer. Long, sustained effort is better than working hard and crashing
"if you can't be happy in the present, you will never be happy"
- Mark Rober
This conversation was incredible, both creator advice, but really life advice. Thanks guys.
So cool that you combined the pictures for the thumbnail per your surveys comments. Awesome demonstration of collaboration with your community being mutually beneficial.
Suggestion:
Get a round table, so Colin and Samir doesn't have to sit that close. Your clips from Mark to you guys is kinda harsh
Speaking as an engineer myself - every great idea I’ve ever had always started with, “Man there’s gotta be a better way to do this.” 😂😂
Mark Rober needs to put some more respect on Colin Hanks' name
There are times I'd like to be able to like a video more than once... I find myself reaching for that thumbs up so many times during this hour, only to find it already clicked. Great interview!
Marks view editing is 100% accurate imo. Entire reason why I love his videos, the vibe is just🤌🏾.
