Will my business risk ever be worth it? Will LED FashionTech clothes go mainstream?

  • Just under a year ago, I took a big risk and invested my own funds into starting a LED clothing business. But the question still remains: will these garments ever become a part level of mainstream couture, or are illuminated garments destined to be limited to niche audiences for raves, costumes, festivals, and nightclubs?

Amazing work. I have input from the rave scene and for such customers of yours (been raving for 7 years). They sell, but barely. Something like under 1% of people at events wear really upscale light clothing such as the fiber-optic hoodie. Ive inly seen 3 or 4, and thats out of about 1million or more people counting all the events ive been to. Ppl instead wear something they can get dirty or dont mind breaking (cheap lights): ppl mostly wear little lights on the body, led glasses/hats/earings. Design something people can wash (moveable lights and battery). It doesnt have to be out of the world/grounding breaking, just make something practical and affordable, simple, cute -> some women ravers (a lot actually) have this thing where they never wear the same outfit to a rave. Dont know where im going with this, just some info for you lol. Keep creating!!!

I hope it does well. I'm on a budget but I watched your tutorials and will try to make my own because I would wear these. I want to say I like the models you use to represent your line. It's nice to see diversity and not just they typical runway models most fashion designers use.

Thank you for your comment! I think representation is important and want the diversity of my models to represent the diversity of my customers - but still always have room to do better! Best of luck with your DIY projects!

I'm really looking forward to uniform, flat and even lighting, rather than the separated individual LED dots

my main field of study is Zoology. but as hobbyist i love LEDs in one way or other. i am thinking about making wearable costumes . it was always my question. is it worth it? because no one is going to support me. they says "yes it is cool but no one is going to buy it." this year I am going to make LED hoodie for my self and see how it goes. there is much potential in this field just need to step up. this channel is really going to help me a lot. thank you soo much.

I think the more subtle the light shines through and is dispersed through the garment, the more mainstream it could become. The intensity of the light is so eye catching that it will always be a draw for the club/ festival scene. If the tech focuses more on enhancing the wearable rather than being the eye catching gimmick, it might separate itself from the bright festival party goer scene. And cleaning garments is always an issue with tech involved. Love what you're creating!

I think there could be a good market in the safety wear area for workers, Cab hailing, joggers, accents at key points that were easily switched on or off. Keep up the great work!

As a crafter I would wear any everyday because that's what artists do

It could be hard to go main stream as tech makes these items hard to wash. I would where on a daily normal outing if they are easy to wash and where over and over.

I think you're making the rounds guy bet, I have no doubts that our clothing styles are bound to change in this century.

I've been deeply into clothing and lighting for a while. In order to reach a mass marking I feel like you have to produce a product that is reusable offordable and individualized. My concepts have been small led badge template designs with minimal customizability. Think of how brands 0lace a logo on a t-shirt. Now do the same but with an LED badge. Now the next step is to make the Garnet reusable ie. Washable. Instead of stitching or permanently gluing and attaching the piece, magnets or velcro will be the simplest and easiest probable solution. Trick is making relative to the clothing that it is attached to. This is why I think it should be experimented on jackets and coats first. Not only does the wearer enjoy the led piece but they also don't even notice that it's there. There's little to no obstruction to the wearer since the jacket is thick enough already.

Great ideas, totally agree! My website lumencouture.com has a variety of options with different methods of washing: including removable liners and tech components.
