  • Full edit of all clips of this interview from her ABC 20/20 special. I surmise that this interview aired likely in late October or November 1986, as Sandy Hill took over CBS Morning News then as Faith Daniels was on maternity leave. This interview would've aired between 6-7:30 AM. Would love to find the full thing!

I muted some clips where there was narration from the 20/20 special overlayed. I also froze two clips briefly to allow for some of the interview audio to play out within the context of the interview, versus it being detached and overlayed elsewhere in the 20/20 special.

Thank you for posting. Do you know if the background music was part of the program or did you add that in yourself? If so would you mind sharing info on the music? Sorry it's so random.

@@wholewheaties Not a problem! The background music was part of the program, I did not add it myself. The composers of this special were listed on IMDB as Alex Britten, Danny Gray, and Johannes Hammers. That's unfortunately all I know.

I was 19 when she was murdered & I've never forgotten. She would've been perfect for The Godfather 3...what might've been. R.I.P. beautiful young lady.

And to think you're the same age as her killer Robert Bardo who probably could have been your classmate or schoolmate if you are attending the same school .. 😢

Thank you for posting these clips of Rebecca, they help us remember her. I was about her age when My Sister Sam first aired, and I truly admired her. I'll never forget the morning that my mom came to me, hugged me, and said, "I'm sorry. I just heard on the news that somebody killed Patty." So upsetting.

I remember being so sad the night I found out on the local news channel. Went to a water park the next day, I felt like I lost a family member, it was a sad day...could not get it out of my head she died. I was young too...but, she would have been a very big star today. She was something else. I could not believe some dumb private detective gave her address for 250 dollars. No money is worth a life, and I don't care who you are, if anyone asked me for someones address there has to be much more context, like family members sure...but to a freaking stranger...so stupid. I would never give a stranger someone's address.

Rebecca’s hair sure was thick and curly! Sometimes I wonder if she’d still wear it like that if the stalker didn’t kill her!

Yeah. If she at least lived a bit longer to her 30s, 40s or 50s, imagine her sporting straight hair.

Wonder if she would have had kids? What a shame her stalker put a stop to all that. She could have become a world famous actress. He deprived the world of someone who could have had an influence in film and tv. Hate that guy! 😠

Believe me, I would love to! Unfortunately I just can't find full versions of either so far. It's an ongoing process to search for these things, especially Rebecca's interviews as so little information is out there on them. It is something I love to do, but it isn't easy. If/when I do though, they'll definitely be featured on this channel!

@@RebeccaSchaefferArchivesMy hope is that this entire interview may be in the Marion Strokes Archive, which is being digitized by the Internet Archives. I even hope that previously unpublished things about Rebecca Schaeffer, including interviews, may be in this collection.

@@J--10 Wow, just did some research and this is absolutely fascinating! I looked through what they have so far and it looks like she did record some segments of CBS News, PM Magazine, and Entertainment Tonight which is great! I suspect that Rebecca's ET interview aired Sept. 2nd, 1987, so hopefully someone is able to locate and upload that day's episode.

@@RebeccaSchaefferArchivesSorry to answer just now, but if they didn't put this ET of 02/09/87 in the Marion Strokes archives, they certainly will, as at that time she recorded the program every day. The project started a few years ago and they are still digitizing Marion's tapes, as she recorded around 70 thousand tapes.

@@J--10 That's quite a few! It does look like progress has stalled on the digitization efforts as the collection doesn't seem to have been updated in a while. Hopefully we'll see some new footage there eventually! I'll bookmark it and check in on it every so often.
