Aren't people required to disclose such things? People have been banned for far less, don't use their fear of RUclips as a litmus test for their honesty. I mean no offense to Sparklez, but generally speaking, disclosing stuff means nothing other than they can follow rules to the letter.
I had the same issue with the floor mat moving. One tip is to buy a pool noodle and make a slit along the side of it and put the end of the mat into it along the wall side. It won't stop it from moving but it will prevent wall damage. Plus for you it will be hidden by the green screen.
An idea would be take a 2x2 peice of pine as long as the matt, run table saw cut in it like 1/4 from the bottom face, about 1 inch deep, put it against the wall with the matt in the slot. Itd be behind the green scren so wont be seen, it could even be painted, could also be double sided stick taped to the floor board, the matt shouldnt move back at all and no damage should happen. He just needs to know someone with a table saw.
Hey Jordan! A cool option for the windows would be shoji screens. They have these super awesome kind called snow viewing (rough translation) where the bottom panel can slide up. The paper will definitely help with deadening the sound, soften the light. But still allow you to see the outside.
Don't worry jardon, it's not the carpet it's those plates. I have normal floorboards and it still moves. In a fit of insanity and hopelessness I just nailed the fricker to the floor and then it just went through the screws. I gave up and accepted my fate. These plates are like the goddamn continents, nothing can stop them from moving.
Very interesting. So what physics are involved with the floorboards? The carpet sits on top of the foundation for the floor (not sure if this is on ground level or an upstairs level or perhaps even a basement with windows), but if the plastic protector for the carpet is slowly moving backwards even after being nailed in and even went through screws, there must be a lot of friction at play. There has to be another solution besides tempered glass floor mats.
@@MicusII Plastic is mailable, it warps as you apply pressure. So as you move the chair across it, it slowly moves and even changes shape, just like when you roll dough.
Nice! Two things, if you're going to be there for a while you could probably fasten the chair mat through the carpet to the joists underneath. It would stop the movement of it, yet still provide a little spring with the carpet underneath (much like a sprung theatre stage floor). Heavy-weight blackout curtains would go well on the windows, and drawn off to the side when not filming. This could solve both light and sound issues, and would also be easy to automate. We had them in one theatre I worked in, AWESTRUCK the first time I saw ~8 tons of drape moving with a single press of a button!
I don't know, but I couldn't work with windows covering the entire wall infront of me. That's where scary demon faces happen in the dead of night. I'm sure that won't happen though. I bet.
it’s so cool how much jardon cares about making his content, well, quality! it’s so sweet to see how much effort, time, and thought he puts into making his streams look *good*.
Hey Jordan, for the carpet mat you could look for some low profile rubber/silicone tape and have a border with an X (like a marked check box) on the under side to add friction to the surfaces and stop the drifting of the desk and mat. Also if you're still worried about the rope or mat snapping from the tension get some metal eyelets and put those in the drilled holes (squeeze together with pliers), then you can replace the rope with metal wires if you want(I don't think this is necessary, but you did mention this before). Beyond this it's a nice set-up.
One thing you have that stuck out to me is the model of Pilot Jack Cooper’s helmet from Titanfall 2. I absolutely love the Titanfall franchise/series and have logged over 150 days play time on the games on Xbox and PC. I mostly play xBox now, where I am nearly max level (Generation 100.49) after a lot of work towards leveling up, and twice as much goofing off and enjoying the beauty of the game. I would love to get some people who haven’t played the game (in a while or ever before) and show them some of the stuff I know of in the game that are absolutely hilarious and fun that are not at all combat related, as well as loads of other details. I could easily just walk you through some of the maps and take a couple hours showing stuff or could make it take longer doing thinks like hide and seek as I use all the spots I know…it’s always fun doing that with friends. Gotta love the nice setup: all I have is a 6 year old ikea tray and the side of my bed as my chair for my desk at home, so not the best with school, but could be worse.
You should switch the caster wheels with the ones like Rollerblades. I believe they are called Rubber Caster Wheels and protects Hardwood Floors and Carpet. I've been using them for every single chair I ever own and its been a god send.
get a larger matt for under your chair/desk so that the desk has more legs on it, and if its a wooden subfloor underneath you could just throw a nail in each corner instead probably. but only if you know its actual subfloor, wouldn't wanna nail into a covered hardwood floor
I suggest you isolate those power strips from the wooden parts of the desk. Something as simple as an antifire cloth or other anti-flammable material. If you have any condition at all where there is a small fire at one of those strips, it might spread to the wood.
Nope, that wood is dry and electrical fires rarely burn, but rather melt. Have you ever looked into how houses are constructed, unless jordan is using lamp cord gauge wiring he has next to no chance of catching fire
Really interesting to see your layout since you do this as a full time job. I strive to create content and start uploading on a regular schedule starting 2024, and seeing your layout gives me inspiration for mine on what I should or shouldn’t consider. Really good insight for sure!
Random suggestion for the carpet. I ran into the same problem and just ended up getting a slab of wood that was finished and then I just put my chair on top of that. It's like I'm on hardwood flooring, but I don't care about the damage. You could probably get one made to the size of your chair mat then put your chair mat on top of that.
To protect the floor, I built a floor on top of the carpet using base of 4x4 plywood sheets, 4 of them, and then some foam padding, and then put vinyl plank flooring above it, for the edges, just use 90's angles, pain in the tail to move everything out of the room to assemble but it lasts forever.
I'm so glad your setup is working fine, Captain! (we do not talk about the carpet) This is quite inspirational, even for casual streamers who can get ideas for cable management etc. A very best Thanksgiving to you and to the camerasnek!
When you first did an office tour at the old house, was still in highschool and built a desk kinda modeled off of yours. It’s funny to see you at a new place with a different desk. Also not in highschool anymore
Awesome set up! Loving it! Yes the carpet problem seems like a big issue... There are some comments suggesting ways to deal with it/fix, etc. Hope we can be helpful! Also love the cable management and the fact you have some natural scenery!
The cables look great. I'm a fan of hiding all the cables but when it's managed really beautifully I think it looks kind of cool to have the cables showing

Hey Cap, had the same issue that you are talking about. Little bit of Kiwi DIY for you. Get a tile (thin not glossy out door concrete tile is best) or a slab of wood (not plywood, not an option never plywood). Decide what side of the thing you wish to use. get some carpet (if you got some spare in the attic or basement and its enough, good) then apply it to the under side making sure it wraps round the corners of the tile and a little bit on the top maybe half an inch? don't you that measurement do what feels right. when it comes to applying carpet to the tile i found carpet glue a good bonding to the rough side of the tile. just an odd idea i had one day and has been good for the past 5 yrs at my old place. only need to re-glue the top warped bits twice in that time, due to chair and dirt pushing pulling and breaking the bond. when i moved out the carpet was not damaged, a little depressed from the weight of stuff, but sprung back with a good commercial wet vac and commercial dry vac.
SUGGESTION: Remove the fat base of the light stands and mount them to the monitor stand. I am sure they don't weigh much and there is a way you could easily rig up the mounting. I think it would make the desk look way better and more clear
if i were you id just swap the carpet for vinyl core flooring shit lasts forever is waterproof and its super easy to install plus its dirt cheap ive been installing a ton at work lately with a good professional they should be able to get that room done in a day or 2 at most
