- Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey was once one of the most anticipated horror films thanks to the first book becoming public domain. But after its release, people were not happy with Winnie the Pooh’s evil update. Let’s watch Blood and Honey and see where did it go wrong in this version of the 100-Acre Woods.

AniMat Watches Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey
#WinnieThePooh #Horror #AniMat
The moral of the story: Just because you can make something into a horror movie doesn't mean you should.
If you want Pooh in the horror genre done RIGHT, I highly recommend checking out Winnie the Pooh: Boo to You Too! if you haven't already.
Now we know why Disney is so protective over Mickey Mouse
@@joshmontemayor1212 and Pooh’s Heffalump Halloween movie.
That was a Kids Halloween movie for 4 year olds
@@nickjasperse9903, keep in mind that Pooh's supposed to be suitable for kids to watch. Whoever made Blood & Honey really needs to take notes from Disney on how to make a Pooh movie CORRECTLY.
Mat you hit the nail on the head. My biggest problem with Blood and Honey was it barely took advantage of the Winnie the Pooh lore. The beginning was promising creating it's own twisted version of the 100 Acre Wood, but just turned Pooh and Piglet into "Guy in Mask who wants revenge." If they wanted to stick with the idea of Pooh and friends going mad, a better idea I had personally is turn it into "Ted meets Misery." Christopher Robin comes back, so Pooh and the rest basically keep him as a slave and "make up for lost time."
Exactly!
@@AttemptedVoicesthat what I thought!
Or, why not have it as they were gentle creatures, but turned vicious after being captured by a mad scientist.
The director f**k'd up by making this a slasher film. It really should have been more psychological horror. They could have done something mildly similar to American McGee's "Alice", but with Christopher Robin and the Hundred Acre Woods instead of Alice and Wonderland.
Heck! It would been cool to have Winnie and piglet be like Jason or leather face.
With all the horror interpretations of Winnie the Pooh, why haven’t they brought in the Heffalumps & Woozles?
I mean it’s right there!
Heffalumps are not evil anymore.
I prefer the Skullasaurus and Spookables being the main monsters/villains.
Maybe there's going to be a spin-off movie for Heffalumps and Woozles.
@@madsceptictrooper6803 DON'T GIVE THEM ANY IDEAS!!!!!😨😨😨😨😨😨
Lumpy*sniffles* 😢I'm not a monster.
there's nothing animalistic about this incarnation of Pooh at all
he's literally just Michael Myers if he was painted yellow
He more like just Jason but as a bear. He freakishly strong. He can kill people just by snapping there nexts and rarely speaks. Only groaning or moaning.
"Does Pooh have a vandetta against women?"
Well, the way I see it, he hates them because, through love and relationship, they took Christopher Robin away from him.
This movie honestly has no reason to exist. I still can't believe Blood and Honey is actually getting a sequel. And the craziest part is, they claim to be working on a Bambi horror film too. Just why?
Blame the Pooh name being public domain
@@mechmaster315This movie here is horrible! Worse than The Banana Splits Movie and The Mean One!
Because the filmmakers are greedy, unoriginal hacks.
They also wat to do one with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles when the franchise becomes available. Granted I came up with my own idea but I'm keeping it between me and a friend because no one would watch it.
At LEAST "The Mean One" made some sense, since the Grinch is literally something the Who's would interpret as a monster. So in some timelime, they'd totally tell stories of him being the monster. (The 2000's grinch did that when they said he had a taste for "who-flesh").
The Splits even had a reason as they had programming that went wrong and forced them to focus on keeping the show going no matter what.
Pooh Bear? No.

“Too Smart For Strangers” is the only horror with Pooh we should have ever gotten
If I have to do something horror-themed with Winnie-the-Pooh, I would probably make a video game where you play as Pooh and some of his friends as they try to escape from vicious Heffalumps and Woozles. Sort of like Piglet's Big Game, but crank up the horror and make it a survival game. Also, can you imagine that the filmmakers behind this would want to make their own cinematic universe out of this similar to the Conjuring universe?
I think as well that the reason they don't mention Tigger is that apparently he's not in the public domain till 2028 since he wasn't in the originally stories and it was a later book in the series that added Tigger.
It’s 2024 and Tigger is in the public domain now so you’re kinda wrong, but you’re right as well.
@@calan604 Whoops. My info must've been incorrect. I read that the reason Tigger wasn't in Blood and honey is because at the time of release his character wasnt PD as Tigger wasnt in the OG stories but added later which the sites I read said wouldnt be PD till 2028. Ah well He's probably in the sequel right?

The first thing that came into my mind after hearing about this was, why just why? After seeing it my question became, what were they thinking? I feel bad for those kids that had to watch this movie because their teacher thought: it's Winnie the Pooh, that must mean it's for kids.
I was legit excited for this movie when it was being advertised. I was hoping for a so bad it's good movie, but it turned out to just be bad.
Just when you thought “Too Smart for Strangers” was the worst thing from the Winnie the Pooh brand, this thing shows up and makes the latter look more respectful and tame in comparison.
At least Too Smart had good intentions.
If cowardly the cowardly Dog was a horror movie.
#couragethecowardlyDog
Only difference is that, unlike “too smart for strangers“, this film isn’t associated with nor is it a product of the Walt Disney company. I also highly doubt that they would want this project to their name, and frankly, I don’t blame them.
Holy Crap, I was waiting for someone I knew to do a reaction to this. Thank you. Also, I can't believe it's almost been a year since the last AniMat watches. How the time flies.

This movie even teaches a dark lesson of what happens when any popular character in media goes into the public domain. There’s always 50/50 chance that the stuff people makes with the property will be either good or bad. I would rather skip this and watch a better horror flick that stars a bear that just came out today. This time, based on a video game
the thing is... the FNAF movie wasn't all that good either. sure, it was WAAAAYYY better than this piece of shit, but as it stands.... it still could've been way better, especially for a movie being stuck in development hell for almost an entire decade.
I think with the deer horror movie that they’re gonna do, I think they’re gonna have the main character catch that deer zombie virus that was affecting the local deer population a few years back

I don't understand why it is that people have this thing where they can't just let wholesome things be wholesome. Any time something is nice there's always SOMEBODY that has to come and ruin it. Why? What do they gain from that?
Attention, fame, and a hint of satisfaction knowing they ruined someone's day and childhood. Hell, take a look at "Happytime Murders". It's literally just Rated R Muppets. It didn't need to happen, but someone did it.

@@tedgruver7618 well it deserved each and every one that it got
Oh, not sure what happened to give you that bandaid, but it's strangely fitting that it's Mickey themed.
Shaving cut.
What's even worse is that Peter Pan and Bambi are going to get horror films too whoopty freaking doo that's another bad idea.
Are you joking? Peter was abandoned in a pram then died, that’s horror enough it doesn’t need a scary movie. lol what is going on with Hollyweird.
I’ve been a huge fan of animat since 2014 so almost 10 years and I still find these videos absolutely hilarious
This movie is just disgusting. But you know what? A dark Winnie the Pooh movie actually had the potential to be great. I mean, Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio was based on Pinocchio who was in public domain. And it received massive critical acclaim since it was a dark retelling of the original story but with a melancholic art style. But here, no one gave a shit about Winnie the Pooh and it's original creator.
The reason why Blood and Honey was a mess because it went against the lore of the original A.A. Milne. stories by turning our lovable silly old bear into a bloodthristy killer with a mask who goes around killing women, along with Piglet. at least Christopher Robin was a more mature, serious take on Winnie-The-Pooh done right, but at least Pooh and his friends didn't turn into bloodthristy killers, and actually became depressed without their dear friend,Christopher Robin when he grew up and became a adult.
Not to mention that the 2018 Christopher Robin movie is from Disney, the ONLY studio that can make a Pooh movie CORRECTLY. They even got Jim Cummings back to voice Pooh & Tigger in that movie.
@@joshmontemayor1212 yes,but Blood and Honey managed to fail to respect the source material when turning Pooh into a horror movie and made him nothing but just a slasher guy in a mask who goes around killing women, along with Piglet.

You know they're going to do a sequel to this movie and they're currently working on one which I think is a bad move.
Okay so I was thinking about making this like veggietales Looking characters (except they’re fruits and they work in a arcade!)
And I have this ideas that’s a little bit better then what everyone is doing to Winnie the Pooh
Don’t make the fruits creepy don’t make them the antagonist
But have them be in character have them be scared of the antagonist who might squish them like bugs!
Also have the fruits be kind of small compared to the actual size of humans!
(Any thoughts?)
Yeah looks like a poor man’s version of Disney’s Christopher Robin from 2018. On top of it, this pooh bear is quite a “Pooh your pants at the sight of him bear”.
Idk why, Animat, but with the thumbnails for the videos where you watch bad movies, I used to like mimicking your avatar’s pose on them.

I have to agree on Dead Meat’s opinion on this one this was a low effortlessly money grab
You know what I like the Disney version of Winnie the Pooh better than horror movie
Everyone likes the Disney version better. Disney knows that Pooh's supposed to be clean, innocent, & wholesome for all ages.
Will you be willing to watch the five nights at Freddy’s movie?
Huuuuuge missed opportunity. You went to the IRL Hundred Acre Woods but weren't creative enough to make a Pooh horror movie anything but generic? Come on, Waterfield; let him get stuck in a hole, have him say "oh bother" at some point, maybe have one of the characters call him a silly old bear! You didn't have to take this all that seriously.
Blame bob chapek for making pooh public domain
Hey, Animat. By any chance, you should check out the Five Nights at Freddy’s movie.
Just don't make Horror Movies based on children's books at all!
I’ve got one question if Disney was in the public domain will they copyrighted Mickey Mouse? Will they make a Mickey Mouse horror film or a sleeping beauty film add sleeping beauty in the year 2640

just the announcements alone for this movie, all of that brought me to tears.
Disney should have saved Winnie the Pooh when they had the chance.
The thing is, though, the public domain is for the original Pooh from the books by A.A. Milne and not the Disney variation. This means that there probably wasn’t much Disney can do.
Disney doesn't have any authority over Winnie the Pooh, because they didn't create the character; much like most of the Disney classics library.
Disney owns enough shit already
@@cartooncritique6625 That's the ugliness of the Public Domain laws. I guarantee you that the guy who made this movie and is planning the Peter Pan and Bambi horror movies are using the technicalities of the Public Domain laws to say that their inspiration was the original story, when in reality, they know they're ruining the childhoods of those who grew up watching the Disney versions of these said characters.
I don't normally judge people based on the art they create, but one thing I'll say is that when you make a number of bad art pieces, that just means you're a bad artist. However, when you knowingly make these kind of movies specifically to ruin people's childhoods and plan on continuing to do so, that's usually a sign you're a bad person.

Its a good thing Disney Junior has a new short show called Playdate with Winnie the Pooh where Pooh and his friends decide things 😅
If this wasn’t independently made, anyone that tried suggesting making Winnie the Pooh into Leather Face or Jason Voorhees to any big studio probably would've gotten thrown out of the pitch meeting.
I feel like this could’ve worked if they hadn’t played it straight. If they had just had fun with how silly the concept is, it would’ve been campy and fun like Killer Klowns
yeah to me it seemed like the feel of it was all over the place, like it wanted to be campy but serious at the same time which rarely ever works out with most media. What they should have done was pick one of the vibes (serious or campy) and stick with it.
What I don’t get is that the film stated that Pooh and his friends “returned to their animalistic state”. …but ironically there’s nothing animalistic about them. They’re literally just every stereotypical horror movie villain ever. Am I wrong?
Not even that, but they’re so obviously humans in animal costumes because the filmmakers clearly had no budget 😭
Even when you turn Pooh into a serial killer, the quality will just be Pooh.
Winnie the Pooh can't kill people naked.
@ryanwilkins2233 He's a crazy murderer but he respects public decency - a true role model.

This movie is not even on the "so bad that it's good" kind of movie. It's just awful.
What's worse is that there is going to be a sequel to this garbage.
And the director is planning on making it a Horror cinematic universe with other properties that aren't related to "Winnie the Pooh". Like "Peter Pan, "Thor," and even "The Powerpuff Girls."🤦🏼♀️
He’ll probably be dead by the time the Powerpuff Girls enters the public domain, which, according to my calculations, should be by the year 2094

The one big takeaway from this movie is the opening animation sequence! It was done in homage to E. H. Shepherd’s illustrations and it showed that as long as you honor the original in SOME way you CAN make a decent adaptation. It all comes down to execution.
James A Jennise hated this film when he cover it on the kill count.
You know what would've made this movie so much better? If the Pooh characters had the exact same voices as the Disney versions
Oh, that couldn't happen. Disney would be after them and Jim Cummings said trhat if they try to use his voice, they'd be in trouble. Something tells me both would go after whomever did a soundalike too.
Cummings hated this movie. I don’t blame him.
Honestly I can see Peter Pan's story being told more aggressively, or told as psychology thriller but Winnie the Pooh as slasher film makes no sense to me. I feel like the production team for this film hates Disney for whatever their reasons are. And this is their way ruining the Disney image.

To be honest, I think things are going to get a lot more worse once the makers of this train wreck get the chance to make a Mickey Mouse horror movie once Steamboat Willie enters Public Domain. if they ever think about doing it, then Walt will be rolling in his grave.
Walt would probably take one look at that trainwreck, come back to life, slap the cast and crew in the face and then go back to the grave.
