"Yoga" just means "technique," "practice," or "discipline" so it can be used to designate almost anything. You can have a "yoga" of ice cream making or a "yoga" of stamp collecting.
My wife and I have been watching "Yoga with Adriene", she often hints at the 'woo woo' stuff, but it's irrelevant. I'm nobody special; I'm no author, or podcaster, or RUclips creator. I didn't come from an evangelical background. But I did find my own way out of Christianity . . . the difference is, I found my way to the pagan community. I can't speak for the whole community, but what I find there is what I think of as the secular sacred. Do I truly believe a god and goddess created the universe? Only on alternate Tuesdays. But do I lend credence to the Gaia hypothesis, that our whole planet is a living organism? Climate change says it is. Do I believe in miracles? Yes and no. I believe in rational science, but that doesn't keep me from finding babies and galaxies miraculous. I don't need a deity to see wonder and awe in our universe. I'm sorry; this is not coming out as clearly as I'd hoped. I'd love a chance to talk to you about all of this, on your show or off, including why you might want to rethink the woo-woo (hint: that lavender towel? That was aromatherapy, and science has found that it DOES relax you.) I just think, in your 'rationality', you may be closing your mind as much as any Christian--and ignoring possible allies in the pagan community. I'll NEVER try to convert you to any goddess, but I will try my hardest to try to convince you that you might be seeing this one thing (or group of things) wrong.
When I first encountered yoga women. I thought they were calm and zen. After marrying one I realized she does yoga because she’s the exact opposite and does yoga to regulate the extreme neuroticism and self inflicted stress. After a few years she did hot yoga, started sleeping with one of the men in the class and we’re no longer married.
In my late 20s I managed a location of a large chain gym. The staff and many gym members HATED a select group of women the staff referred to as the "yoga bitches"; they were the biggest bunch of entitled spoiled brats in the place, very far removed from the stereotype of the mellow we-are-one-in-humanity yogi. They whined about the music in the rest of the gym being too loud, the lighting, that we didn't provide mats and blocks (for obvious hygienic reasons). We had to install locks over the thermostats when "hot yoga" became the craze and they would jack the temp up to 85 degrees because fuck the spin class coming in afterwards. Centered and mindful they were not. Personally I hate yoga; boring and too slow for me. I'll stick to weightlifting with a half hour of cardio thrown in after for good measure. I take out any angst on the iron.

I practice Zen meditation, which is largely a breathing exercise, something the Western tradition barely recognizes. Some time ago I got into an online discussion on some fundamentalist Christian site. My main question has never been answered, "What is the difference between satanic breathing and Scriptually-based Christian breathing?"
@@AdityaDubey-h2x I think you misunderstand me. Fundamentalists frequently condemn meditation as a "demonic" practice. I simply asked how breathing --- an essential act for all living creatures --- could possibly be demonic. I don't believe in anything demonic thus the concept of any physical or meditative practice being satanic or scriptural is absurd.
My limited understanding is that the yoga poses were each paying hommage to an Eastern diety. So it wasn't the breathing, but rather the poses worshipped "other" gods.
@@funshinebear4822 Yes, that is probably true, I am not that familiar with yoga. Yet according to this logic we should be concerned about our demonic calendar because the days of the week are named for pagan gods.
