This was from Begin Again Korea, a show where a group of well known artists went around busking at different venues. Due to Covid they stayed outside and had small audiences done by raffle. A behind the scenes video shows this to be a huge steel plant in South Korea. Sohyang was on 6 episodes and there are plenty more solos, duets and group songs with her. This program is one of the series of busking tour. They used to visit Europe and other countries, and performed on the street like Prague. But due to COVID-19, they toured around South Korea and this specific performance was done at shipbuilding yard to entertain workers there.

Good to see you back reacting to Sohyang. It's been a while. I love her arrangement of this iconic song. It was a stripped down acoustic version and yet so easy for her. If you noticed, she actually sang the sax part, which was unique. Absolutely incredible. As others have already commented, this is from the show Begin Again Korea when Sohyang joined a group of other well known singers and went around Korea performing in front of small groups (in effect busking) for the workers and people in general during these hard times. Tom, I believe this was part of the "Begin again Korea" tour she did with that group of singers and musicians. I've seen a few performances they did in different locations, but with small groups of people in attendance but filmed to be broadcast later I think. This isn't a Whitney original, it was a cover. The original song was written and sung by Dolly Parton. They are not back up singers, although they did back each other up. Nearly everyone on BAK had there own solos and duets.
This performance is from a series called ‘begin again Korea’ where a small ensemble of musicians & pop stars go to public spaces & work places during the pandemic basically ‘busking’, hence the minimal musical accompaniment. If this was the sort of busking I came across in my local town centre I’d be throwing my life savings in nevermind a few coins!!!! They weren’t full concerts, they were just a handful of songs at each venue. You will see Sohyang on different days & there would usually be 2 venues in 2 day ( you will get used to when & where etc just by what she is wearing). Normally this project leaves Korea & goes to other countries but obviously we were in the middle of a pandemic so it wasn’t possible. During the pandemic was the 1st time Sohyang has been involved with this project & initially she was standing in for another performer, who was the token ‘elder’ of this group but for some reason couldn’t participate. The lack of accompaniment really highlights just how good Sohyang is. Throughout the series, not only have members of the audience looked at her on awe & on lots of cases been brought to tears, but her fellow performers too & there are many shots of them looking at her, mouths wide open on awe, even though they are famous for singing in their own right. Throughout this series there are many many many spine tingling performances by Sohyang, mainly on her own, but there are songs where she duets or the whole group is involved, with both Korean songs & popular English language songs. There were summer & winter performances but were all done during lockdown. She also tackles many different genres in these performances, so much so that you can hear her rapping, yes I did say rapping!!! which in itself is interesting because as you can see, the other vocalists are young Korean stars from the world of pop who you would imagine would be more in to their rap music than Sohyang, yet in the song ‘day day’ Sohyang sings the bulk of the rap. I managed to see some of the footage of rehearsals & while the youngsters were struggling with the speed & accuracy of spitting these lines out, it was no problem for Sohyang, which is why she took the bulk of the rap, quite simply because she was the best at it. She didn’t do a bad performance throughout the whole series ( no surprise there then) but if you just search ‘Sohyang begin again Korea’ you will see these performances ( I am hoping that a fellow Sohyang fan will send you a list of the actual links) but here are a few of my favourite performances of English songs, although for me, doe of her most moving performances were in her native Korean. ‘ Misty’ - Ella Fitzgerald ( OMG!! Sohyang with her jazz head on) ‘I won’t give up’ - Jason Mraz. ( so emotional, kleenex alert!! ) ‘If I ain’t got you’ - Alicia Keys ‘Day Day’ - this is where you’ll find her rapping!! ‘Let’s Marvin Gaye’ - a duet with Henry which shows her playful flirty side. ‘Stuck with you’ - Justin Beiber & Ariana Grande - a duet with Crush. These are just a few I think you will enjoy as I’m assuming you’re already familiar with the originals, but the are more than triple/ quadruple of other outstanding performances & this is as near as you’re gonna get to ‘current Sohyang’ because as we all know, she is fiercely private & isn’t active on any social media platforms. Those in attendance were workers on site who continued to work amid the initial COV-19 crisis. There are a series of performances from Sohyang in this program. They are all fantastic but I'd suggest watching her cover of Alicia Key's "If I Ain't Got You".

It was a part of Begin Again Korea (“busking” concerts). Begin Again Korea traveled to different parts of Korea and gave concerts in 2020 to specific groups of people . I believe I remember correctly - the workers present in this video are from the second largest metal working factory in the world. The whole surrounding building, railway etc. is part of the factory’s premises. Due to restrictions and other factors there were only so few. They were the first performers ever let in to perform in those premises.
Misty from this begin again korea is a must hear. I'm wondering if you've gone into her masked singer ones yet. There is a stack of amazing in there. She even raps in one of them and even that one is kinda epic and it's the least stand out of them.

I will have to say Ailee is in her own level . So Yang may achieve higher notes or sing higher than Ailee but so Yang lacks Ailee's adaptability in making any cover songs into her own . From facial expressions to the way she communicates the song across Ailee wins hands down .

Yeah. I would say this cover is closer to Dolly's version. I would say Ailee's version was more like a combination with her own sound mixed in.
