I like how Suriname was pronounced the Dutch way instead of the English way, even tho the narrator speaks English.

    • @BE-bk1tb

I don’t. I hate it. How about pronouncing it the way the original indigenous people intended it before Dutch rapists and thieves decided to take it.

@@BE-bk1tb Because they could not defend what was supposedly truly theirs (sadly). The Netherlands is one of the countries to point our fingers at, but not the first.

I've lived there for a long time, and at first thought the same as a lot of you: WHY destroy nature, just for a piece of gold? But later on, after traveling and living with the indigenous, I came to realize that poverty really pushes people in a position where it can be hard to resist the gold. I have many friends who tried and tried to get an education, but failed because nobody could sponsor them. And from that place, it's hard to get a job. Judging these people isn't the way, supporting them in finding another way is.

Suriname is a great place. They are happy where they live. A lot of my friends tell me to go live with the natives. They have everything there, even WiFi. Most people like to go there in vacations. The only thing Suriname cannot give is proper education. In these 10 years Suriname has destroyed itself with the debt taken by the government.

I wish someday I went to one these places and spent a season, giving crash courses on the general disciplines. These people only wish knowledge and an official statement that allows them to earn their keep and help their families. Yan's dream of becoming a ship captain is so beautiful, and so is the wish and resolve of the two sisters.

I've lived there for a long time, and thought the same as you: how stupid can people be? But later on I came to realize that poverty really pushes people in a position where it can be hard to resist the gold. I have many friends who tried and tried to get a education, but failed because nobody could sponsor them. And from that place, it's hard to get a job. Judging these people isnt the way, supporting them in finding another way is.

Where the Christian Missionaries have reached there is nothing indigenous & very little native knowledge remaining. Such people start losing their identity from the time they adopt Christian names.

The basic assuption is that natives need to be civilized. Lure of charity Christianity brings with it makes the locals more open to the change. Besides English education is perceived as a ticket to the so called big beautiful outside world

After 30 years I could not regonized the place I lived the under the people chose as President is felling the country and the people most of them are not using the fertile soil to grow vegetable . It is a pity . Wen I lived there I never went to the marked I had 8 sorts of vegetables growing and a lot of fruits we went only for fish meet milk and bread to the shops .
But now nearly no one in the city is using thre living space near the house to plant vegetable .
Some streets , but when it rains all of them are like rivers the water is not flowing. thanks to the president a murder who is killing the country and keeping most of the people poor .

In my country, i would rather live in the village. In the city there is too many laws, too many boundaries, too many restrictions. For example, in a modernized western country you need fishing license to fish. You need permit to build your own home. You need to pay tax. So many things. In my country, if you want to fish all you need to get is you fishing equipment. No restrictions from the state. Pure freedom.

So, this guy, and others, is polluting everyone's water and food supply, can't even take care of himself and is planning to knock up his girlfriend? What , so he can then abandon the both of them? No, don't have kids. Let the task of having children be left to people who can afford it please. I know it is a tough pill to swallow, , but it is a sign of respect to the unborn human to not bring it in such a bad situation.
