    My father was an IATSE Local 44 propmaker for over 30 years. I followed him into the business in 1995. One of my first big features was Batman and Robin on Stage 16 at WB. I spent 13 years of my life on soundstages building sets for film and TV. Everyone in the comments has this romanticized idea of these stages as fantastic places where movie magic happens. When you work there that idea wears off real quick. They are big,hot,dirty,smelly, warehouses.

    • @King-Kazma
      @King-Kazma Год назад +1

      @@edz8067On top of wood and paint, you add dirt, dust, greens (plant matter), a hundred sweaty people, an unfiltered tank of water, literal horse shit, and many thousands of watts of lighting. Then you shut the door while filming is taking place, and reduce the ventilation. I have worked on stages that had turf put down that was watered overnight.
      Sound stages smell dank if you are lucky.

    • @michaeloliver1905
      @michaeloliver1905 Год назад

      I absolutely agree, but we romanticize about we don’t know. Its like when I talk to people about being in the Army and at war. Their perception is completely different from what it is actually like. This here I think is more about the movie and the props and what they invoke from our memories of that period of time in our lives. The building is a symbol of what was created there. I believe you that the conditions were horrible.

I bet the people that work to build those sets get a big laugh when the movies come out because they know everything that went into making it. The open sets we walked into were Cold Case, ER (the main hallway way so small/narrow), & Poseidon (mentioned in this clip). I asked an employee what movie was being filmed, as there was a huge ship for the set; he stated Poseidon & that the stage next door (16) had the cap-sized model & he told us excitedly like we were familiar w/ the original film, had no clue what he was talking about lol but responded intriguing.
