You know you are getting old when two beautiful young women call a film from 1996 a “Really old movie”. 😂
Yeah, a "really old movie" ... from my 30s!😭 I don't think I want to hear how they describe the original _"Star Wars"_ - one of the first movies I took a date to! ... the whole shebang, too! Lunch, then the movie, then an early dinner ... a _very_ successful date!! I found out from her sister a few months later that she was *still* talking about it!👍 Rather not hear the adjectives Michelle and Ellie use for it! ["ancient"? ... "old & dusty"? ... "is it a silent movie?"]
How old are you 50?
Yeah, I remember having this movie on VHS.
@@johnnyweismuller6895 Did you fail first grade math?
@@johnnyweismuller6895 - 50?!? I *wish* I could 'go back in time' like that!
BTW ... can you still do the 'Tarzan yodel'? Oh, wait ... uhm, was that the other guy, and you're the golfer?
Entire cities wiped out ... 'I like it' ... 1 doggie about to get a mild case of singed fur 'OH NOOOOOS NOT THE DOGGIE'...
Will's freak out over the smell was pretty much ad-libbed. As the scene took place on a salt flat, which is an old seabed, it had a... noticeable fishy smell. Nobody told Will and that was what resulted lol
_"Perhaps it's fate that today is the Fourth of July, and you will once again be fighting for our freedom. Not from tyranny, oppression, or persecution... but from annihilation."_
Major goosebumps. I love Bill Pullman!
LONESTAR!!
@@yew2oob954
🇺🇲Lonestar 4 President!👽
@@Menaceblue3 indeed, hopefully a return to this concept where a president is well spoken, and can coherently deliver speeches, we can only hope
@@trayolphia5756
"Trust me. I know a lot about SPACEBALLS, believe me! No one in this galaxy makes better merchandising than the citizens of -America- Druidia! We're gonna have Dark Helmet pay us back for the stolen air! Other presidents were total failures!"
That speech gets me every single time 😊
Computers and the internet did exist before wifi, so a wifi connection didn't matter when uploading the virus. Of course it's silly in a way but in 1996 average people still didn't really understand computers or the internet. I think this movie was perfect for it's time and had groundbreaking special effects that honestly look better than some movies made in 2022.
I was at a midnight premiere when this movie opened, and the line was huge. Theater completely packed and audience really into it. Hadn't seen that sort of thing since the first Star Wars in 1977, but it happened again for Infinity War and Endgame. Those kinds of movies and shared experience don't happen very often, unfortunately!
Endgame I saw late late show. It was the first time I walked out of a movie at 6am
@@ITPalGame Pretty crazy, isn't it? Did you have to go to work after that?! 😁
@@kirk1968 I am my boss
Yeah I was a teen when this came out and it was a packed house in the theater. My brother saw this movie before me though and ruined the ending about the one char's 'sacrifice'. Even though I still love this movie, it still makes me sad due to the Twin Towers being in it. I feel the same way about Home Alone 2: Lost in NY. When 9/11 happened, everything did feel surreal like I was watching a movie and I did think of Independence Day too. But yeah I still love this movie and it's message about unity. The only other movie I went to in the 90s that had this much of a crowd reaction was Titanic.
@@Zodia195 I wonder how many people who watched Home Alone 2 back then who didn't mind Donald Trump and became rabid leftist loons who hate him simply because the liberal media told them to.
favorite characters, no order, the drunk pilot, the stripper turned rescue worker, and the rescue dog
22:47 Michelle, "plausible deniability" is a phrase (especially used by or about politicians) to describe a way to avoid blame for secret actions that may eventually come to light. If you have "plausible deniability" about something, then that means you can reasonably argue that you didn't know it was happening. It's a particularly cynical phrase, and often involves willful ignorance by someone who should know better, or (as in this case) not giving facts to someone who should know them.
This movie is one of my all-time favorite movies. It honestly doesn't really feel character-driven, but more like a documentary on the human condition under an alien invasion. The scale this movie managed to create just feels like "the characters" are humanity in general. Humanity vs. Aliens. The story and plotholes honestly don't really matter to me; it's just the feeling, the experience, that I love. The music, the effects, the realism of how the system and the people would act in a cataclysm like this... also, I love the chemistry between Goldblum and Smith's characters at the end XD They just crack me up lol Also, I understand the opinion of "it's an "AMERICA, FCK YEAH" type of movie, where the States save the world like they should~!", but I just don't care; what are countries and states when the entire planet is at risk like this? The focus has to be SOMEWHERE... It doesn't matter to me that it's the Americans taking the lead here. The divisions in nationality, culture, race, ethnicity, it all falls away when we, as humanity, combat an aggressive alien species together. It's the idealism of it that inspires me; when humanity stands together, US air force, Taliban, Yakuza, whatever the hell the group is called, when all of those titles just merge into one singular force... we could defeat anything. I love that message
I did see this movie in theaters and even as a teen, I was quick to notice that other nations that were shown after the "Offensive" plan was created, they were regions we were at odds with to show how united the whole world was and it was awesome to see.
@@Zodia195 Yess, it's just so euphoric and triumphant, seeing the forces of the world unite into one army. "American"? "European"? "Asian"? No... "HUMAN" :)
Hear, hear.
There's a deleted scene that explains they were able to create the virus because modern PC's were created based on designs from the alien ship's computers at Area 51
If I'm not mistaken he additionally has to put in considerable effort to learn the alien technology.
Even then, the aliens should have an anti-virus program, since they're so keen on using technology against other races. Dave's virus would still be ineffective either way.
I’m not a tech guy but also thought it would be plausible for them to be able to upload a virus from space because the aliens were using earths satellites
I always was thinking that the aliens didn't grow their tech base much. They were scavengers, and nomadic. Their computer tech was probably only a hundred years or so better then ours. They are not like say the Borg who conquer and take new tech ideas. They destroy and rip everything out of the planet resource wise. They could care less of our tech and culture. The crashed ship from the 1947 crash was the exact same model the aliens flew. They never needed to change it.
That's why the scene was deleted ... because it was implausible and, nobody with a brain would believe it. We didn't even have Home Wi-Fi until 1999 or widespread Wi-Fi until the mid-2000's. I've been in computers since the EARLY 80's and, let's just say, e-nnn-ttt ... wrong !!! They were simply piggy-backing their communications onto our own satellite transmissions to get their messages to their other ships around the Earth. They weren't hacking our computers or anything though, because they were not compatible. In other words, even if we HAD stolen their technology, we don't speak their language, so the ideas they used to do computing were what we would find useful, not their language.
"Plausible deniability " is so the President can say he didn't know about the aliens without it seeming like an outright lie.
"from 96, wow, yeah, really old movie"
Like a kick in the balls.
The reason the effects are so good, is because they’re real, the buildings exploding were mini sets, and real explosives.
1:27 Yes! That actor is Erick Avari. You recently saw him as the boss of librarian leading lady Rachel Weisz in The Mummy.
If only the aliens had invested in McAfee Antivirus.
7:52 it's from the friction of coming into the atmosphere.. the space shuttles ceramic plates would glow red from the heat generated and look like a falling star
32:30 knowing how the scene plays out and seeing the dog on the screen passed out made me think the poor doggy was dead. :( I miss my cat. So glad the 4 of you have now watched this one, can't wait for the 4 of you to watch Independence day 2!!!!
9:04 "This is HUGE-GANTIC." That's _one_ word for it! 🤣
The city destruction looks very real because it was a mix of real miniature cities exploding and camera tricks with the actors. so the explosions you see, mostly, are real but with miniatures :D
This is one of my childhood favorites. It came out the year I was born.
This is one of me favorites. It came out the year I was forty-one.
The kid that plays Will Smith's son, also plays his nephew on 'The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air'.
I love how epic this movie is I've love it since I was a kid so glad you 2 enjoyed it as well man
09:06 "This is Hugegantic!" Kekekek That's my new word!
I saw this one with Viki and Lia I remember; very exciting and the final was the saddest part I’ve seen in my life. Such a good movie 💯🤟🏻🍿
Mich: they won’t be ready for this
Ellie: with the WiFi 😂😂😂😂
Glad you mentioned this. It gets confusing when u think wait havent they already reacted to this?
@@user-wr9ej6xe4j I m pretty sure Vicki and Lia had their own reaction on the channel, I know ELLe joined those 2 when the 3 watched Sixth sense as She was real scared the 1st time and ELLE needed the guy who helps edit and he showed up in ELLE's reaction lol
@@user-wr9ej6xe4j well what other words would you describe this video cuz this one was perfect 👌🏻 but I don’t know 🤔 how can I express my opinion you know , greetings for you my friend
My favorite quote from the movie " welcome to earth" will smith says as he punches the alien in the head
53:05 Many reactors miss that the “bomb” actually is a nuclear head hence the mega explosion.
That mothership is supposed to be 1/4 the size of the moon. At that size, a nuclear explosion on its own would be insignificant. What must have happened is the nuke happened to be close enough to cause damage to the ship's main reactor, which then exploded, and _that_ is what destroyed the mothership.
@@Tantalus010 A nuclear explosion would not be insignificant at all. regardless of the size. There is way less gravity so the force of a nuclear blast would have way more impact in space then on a surface.
1996 is really old... damn I am ANCIENT then 🤣
52:33 Michelle: “No, it's locking !”. Of course, because after the aliens close it they need to put the locks on.
😂🍿
"need the Avengers", nah , just needed a Russell 😁
The president, who plays as a former pilot...his son in real life, plays pilot Bob, in Top Gun Maverick!😮
Close Encounters of the Third Kind is......mind-blowing
LUCY is a great reaction for you gals...Female Power and anoher mind-blowing plot
As a 50 + year old, I always chuckle at how they think 90s movies, are very old movies! LOL
As another 50+, THEY ARE, thirty years have passed.
The Scientist with long hair is played by Brent Spiner who plays Data from Star Trek The Next Generation.
The Avengers couldn't stop this. This is a Justice League level threat. Bring in Superman.
Remember Apollo 13 when the three men went back home and entered the earth’s Atmosphere and their shuttle was on fire as they descended back to earth. That’s what this is.
The scene where Will Smith's character was dragging the alien in his parachute and kicking it in the desert was actually not part of the script.
26:14 "Fist him again"
That’d definitely distract him at least.
Michelle "Stuff the humans, just don't let any Doggo's die". ha ha ha
"Really old movie" 😅 I love these ladies!
28:00 He was in 'The Patriot' !
25:23
It opened like that because it was the biomechanical suit they cut open.
Great reactions. Love y’all.
How the mighty have fallen. R.I.P. Will Smith's career. Maybe if they figured out away to bring back Steve in a 3rd movie "creatively", we'd remember why we loved Will. But, it's hard watching Will now not gonna lie.
Your dogs are so beautiful. I often watch them during your movie.
Alien 1: You did hit the 'Negotiate first' button right and not the 'Global annihilation' button?
Alien 2:
28:15 the dog is entirely bored by the whole thing!
Wasn’t there already a reaction video on this movie with all four of you?
No, but Viki and Lia watched it about 3 weeks ago.
Hey Ladies, Great reaction, this is one of my Favorites, an just in case y'all didn't know there's a second movie that picks up a few years after this invasion took place with the Aliens returning to finish the job they started. It's pretty good too be sure to watch it to. Hopefully y'all will do a reaction for it to. Anyway had a blast. Y'all are Awesome, Lv y'all mean it!!😎❤😉
The kid Will Smith is holding is the same actor that played little Nikki in The Fresh Prince Of Bel Air.
your puppies are definate movie snugglers with you both
Any type 3 Society is going to need to find resources from other planets within the Galaxy to sustain itself.
I like how your dog watches movies. My late wife a lot of times half way through a movie Id look over and she'd be sound asleep. Id nudge her or ask her what she thought of what just happened and she'd pretend she had been awake the entire time lol.
Watching or licking the whole time lol
Another space / alien movie that was great from around the same time was Contact.
48:24 Me walking into the toilet after quesadillas
You should react to Speed (1994) next time 🙂
Saw this at the cinema in 96! Yes i am that old! Unbelievable on the big screen! By the way, they didnt have wifi in the 90's!!
It's still funny that a advanced speicies was taken down because of our old computers with Windows 98 that we created a virus on. lol
Windows 95...
Ships have there systems for communication. When you connected you ship with alien ship, and they take control, practic you are connected and online with them. You dont need to use wireless, etc. Hi from north Bulgaria neightbor country!
"1996..wow...really old movie..." lol I was working on my MA in 96.
the major was jane from firefly
They could only do that with an Apple Mac computer, naturally. The explosions on the base are real, not CGI.
That hurricane looks similar to The flux from last year's Doctor Who 5:27
You guys now have to see the the 2nd installment of independence day resurgence. Jeff goldblum as back as David, his father, and the president are back. The only silly part is the alien queen tries to destroy the earth
I love how you young ladies call this movie really old...lol
The great Blockbuster of 1996
If a person were to land like that in real life that person’s legs would be broken.
"plausible deniability" pretty much means a person can deny having any knowledge or involvement without having to lie. Hahahaha, Ellie, "fist him again!" And anything falling into the earth atmosphere would burn up before it hit the ground if it is small enough. Great reaction guys!
Underwater that’s where we’re going to hide.
1. Hiller is a USMC Captain he knows his holiday off is over. That's why he didn't even have to wait to be called in. Jasmine should know that.
2. In the theater I was in the people in there actually stood up and cheered when the White House and the Capitol Building blew up.
3. In my top 10 reasons out of thousands to NOT live in a Metropolis. Getting the hell out.
4. Lisa Jakub/Alicia is FINE!😍😋
5. Brent Spiner/Dr. Okum played Data in Star Trek TNG. It's nice to see him with emotions.
6. Goof: The president said he sent up an AWAC. It's AWACS= Airborne Warning And Control SYSTEM.
7. Hiller FAIL parashoot jump.🙄😲
There was bound to be military screw ups. If I recall right the military was in full cooperation for this movie. Then they saw how much Area 51 was going to be in the plot. They demanded it be taken out... and pulled their support when the director and studio said no. It would be around 10 to 15 years after the movie that the government even admitted their was a base there. But given how Area 51 was in popular culture back then, shouldn't Hiller have figured out that was the base he flew over while being chased by the aliens?
you can hide underground. thats how any resistance starts.
but you didn't hear that from Jay Gurd . I will say I know why I can't find love here. I'm in the wrong part of the world. and it sucks. I just hope you are safe and happy wherever you are.
The aliens should have known not to attack a planet where LONESTAR is the president!!
Ask the Spaceballs!!
Nice movie many action and adventure
"This is hugegantic" thx for the new word Michelle :D 09:06
I highly recommend you react to the beautiful film "THE HITCHER" from 1986 ☺️
This movie really started the massive destruction movie porn we still have 20 some years later. The 90s was full of major destruction films like Armageddon, Volcano. The 70s had disaster like Poseidon, the 80s had action like Commando, but there was never cities blowing up til this. Why? End of Cold War. I think Hollywood thought we don't really have to worry about real nukes as much so it's cool to make cities blow up on screen.
Independence Day came out in 96.
Terminator 2 Judgment day 91= am I a joke to you???
Turn the movie volume up
I love how every reactor is like "But what about Boomer?"
Boomer.......Will live
@@darkzer0670 Not in "The Lost World" 😅
Michelle, it's not the size of the computer, but how you use it
The grudge 1,2,3 🙏
43:24 Michelle talking about signal quality. To be fair, our military budget for this year is $742.3 billion. We better be able to talk from space without issue for that price tag lol.
I mean we humans have been able to get pictures from the voyager space craft that's gone beyond Pluto so yea it shouldn't be a problem
43:47 It does feel like that more nowadays Ellie 😄
Movies: The Love Bug 1968, Goosebumps 1&2 and Rampage. Tv Show: Dinotrux please?
I'm assuming that if they hide the movie release date (1996) they're going to be less distracted and less chit chatting during the movie
micjelle your puppy is exhausted!!
Part 2 wasn't as good as this one but it was still pretty good
"Fist him again!"
Giggity
difficult to tell ... who is cuter .... the dogs or you ;-)
I believe in the original "war of the worlds." The alien 👽 invaders had a similar weakness.
1996 really old...thanks haha
