I highly suggest you finding a greenback or vintage 30 to pair with your plexi. Speakers make a huge difference. Celestion has that trademark "British" mid range that pairs like wine and cheese. Keep up the good work and love Marshall tones!

Sounds about right to me. That's what a plexi sounds like.

With those first set of tubes it got quite distorted even at 9:00. A plexi should be capable of at least a little bit of clean headroom right?

@@KleyDeJong It probably should be cleaner than with the newer tubes. Sorry, I didn't pay close enough attention the first time I watched. I thought you were trying to get more gain out of it. Are your pickups high output?

@@onewiththings It's a prs s2 standard 22 with fairly modest output humbuckers. I noticed the new preamp tubes had quite a bit less noise and hiss. The range of gain is much more like I expect. 9:00 is fairly clean. 12:00 is nice and crunchy. Cranked is awesome rock and roll saturation.

Now, what about solid state amps? Have you ever messed with the Sunn Beta Lead?

Good question. I have not seen one of those before, but would love to work on one someday!

Hey Kley. Thanks for posting. I built a Weber 6M100 and I wouldn't dare play it at noon without ear protection. Is your plexi a 50 watt? Anyway I was surprised how sensitive your amp was to the preamp tube change...I think I’m going to roll my tubes too. Please share the results of your Poweramp tube change.

Yes it's a 50 watt amp. It's quite loud! I can only play it in the room for a little bit.
I did some more testing and believe that one of those 12ax7s was faulty. It was quite noisy and overly gainy and not in a good way.

@@KleyDeJong I have some noise issues as well...perhaps a tube change will help. I also have been meaning to replace the signal wires to v1 to shielded cable.
