Yay! Hi Anny! It was so great to meet you. You made us both smile with your good energy. I hope to bump into you again some time! Please reach out if you have any questions as you build your reselling business! amy@yosoboho.com 💕
I hope they figure some things out. People are going to shop at the big box stores instead of Goodwill where they can buy brand new things for the same or less money. That makes me sad.
Fantastic!! Mom and You!!! When Prices are High, it sure takes the Funout of Shopping. It's very easy to say pass and move on to another pass.😫 I bet Irf and You had a Wonderful Christmas Eve!!!! Have more Enjoyment today!!!!🎄☃️💫🎅🏼
Merry Christmas, Amy, Irf, Amy's Mom, Amy's Sister, and Amy's Aunt! Hope you're all having a great time on this day! Sorry so long! You may recall that I moved in August from a dinky apartment to a much, much bigger place and with that came a lot of needs. In 2019ish I had a storage unit that needed to be either moved to a new one closer to where I lived or just purged so I opted for the purge of about 85% - 95% of my stuff so I had to pretty much start from scratch. Anyhow, though I have found some decent furniture (early on) to fill the blanks in my new place, other things have not been as successful in finding because the prices at the local thrift stores are bonkers. Prices on dining chairs went up and that's one thing I am struggling to find. (Note, they do not need to be matchy-matchy and still not finding any that are priced right and fit my criteria of seat back height and quality.) As a reseller and a thrifter for personal use, yes, I always want the best deal I can get. But I've seen many things in the last month or two in our local thrift stores that are priced at nearly retail of what you'd find in the big box stores - including Ross, TJ Maxx/Home Goods. It makes me sad. I really need some new drinking glasses (I've broken all but 1 over the years - my living situation doesn't warrant urgency in replacement) and they're not all that great of shape in the thrift store and then they are a bit more pricey than I want to pay for their not-that-great in most instances. Certain things I want to be "matchy matchy" like drinking glasses. So a set of 6 of tumblers can be as high as $3 ea. But looking on Target's website, you can get a set of 6 - 16.4 oz in their Threshold line for $12. Which may be what I end up doing. I'd prefer to find some interesting glasses at the thrift store to support their mission, keep things in circulation, and save some money! Also, artwork has really gone bonkers too in the last months. That's not to say I haven't found some at a good price. I recently found a batik - 21" x 41" professionally framed - which appears to be done on silk, by an American artist (still researching it) for $11.99 so that was a nice score! But by-and-large, artwork is priced pretty steep, even for lower quality prints that are run of the mill. I have a feeling the person pricing the batik didn't know what they had or they would have marked it up by at least another $10. I had to use my loupe to see the fibers enough to know it's likely silk. I will say, however, that the fact that as a reseller, I am looking for the bottom price so I can resell at a better profit, I also carry that line of thinking into thrifting for my personal use. I did find, a few weeks ago, a queen size cotton/linen blend coverlet by Peacock Alley (go check their prices brand new) on a half price sale tag for $11.49. It's in fabulous condition so I scored on that. I do think you can find some linens at amazing prices still. Some things I will only buy new like sheets and towels but other linens like quilts/coverlets or blankets I can dig those thrifted. I'm not into the idea of other people's body oils on sheets and...you get the idea. Again, sorry so darn long but when you're shopping for both, personal and resale and the prices are revved up, it's kind of discouraging because you know so much of it will end up broken and/or in the dump. I've always felt that thrift stores (unless they're hurting for donations) should operate on the quick turnover idea. Not only does that move merch in their stores, but it also has a greater emotional vibe from the community that they are there beyond just their financial mission to help others but to be the front line of keeping stuff in circulation...which many tout in their blurbs over the PA system between songs. Anyhow, anyone that got through that long blathering, thank you for that and hope everyone has/had a great Christmas day! ~ Liz
Hi, Liz! Please don’t apologize! I loved reading this and seeing your perspective as both a consumer and a reseller. My purchases are usually artsy things that I add to my home decor. I’m rarely in a situation where I need certain things. I try and put myself in the shoes of people who are using secondhand stores as a necessary source for the things they need. And you helped hit the nail on the head for me! It’s very frustrating that you and other people who are specifically looking for things that they need are price comparing the thrift shop items to places like Target and realizing that they can get things new, cheaper than they can get them second hand. Something has to change. I wish more people understood the reseller side of things. That we aren’t looking for the same things as consumer shoppers. it’s amazing that you shared this perspective where you are actually looking at things in two different ways as a reseller and buyer! As a reseller, I look for things that have eBay value. It could be anything. It could be a refrigerator filter. The likelihood that a person within shopping distance of the Goodwill where I may source that refrigerator filter actually has a refrigerator and needs that model filter is gonna walk through the doors and buy it there is very low. (Possible, but not likely.) As a reseller, I can put it on eBay and get it to someone who has that refrigerator and is looking for a better deal than a retail price on that filter. I know that’s a pretty generic example, but it’s things like that, that I don’t think everybody understands. A lot of people are looking at resellers as an enemy, including some of the thrift shops themselves. When, in fact, we’re looking for specific things that have value in a bigger market. You’ve watched my videos where I’m at Hartville Thrift, so we know it’s possible to price things low to benefit the community of consumers (as well as resellers) and be a very successful nonprofit business. I hope Goodwill and some others figure things out. 💕
The pricing at this Goodwill reminds me of my local stores. I haven’t gone into one in over six months though because of the ridiculous pricing. The last time I went, they were selling plastic baskets from the Dollar Tree for $6.99 each! 19:10 I did love that round rattan table! I have a similar one for my coffee table. Merry Christmas! 🎄🎄🎄
I get frustrated, but I feel like they pull back prices when they see sales slipping and I want to be there for that. 😆 I’ve seen it at this place and especially at that Mayfield GW that stop at on my way to/from the North. Oh that table was a good one!! 💕 Merry Christmas, Linda!! 🎄
I usually love that Goodwill! Too bad their prices are so high! Great find Mom on the Luminara (spelling?). I always look for those and have yet to find one! The fairy surprised me that it is worth so much! Merry Christmas! ❤️🎄❤️🎄❤️
I feel like they have gone up before and they will come back down. It’s the law of supply and demand. When people stop shopping because the prices are high, they have to lower them. 🤞🏻😊 Merry Christmas, my friend! 😘💕🎄
Hey Amy, love watching you and your mom shop together! Just letting you know that weird shell you saw with the legs is called a spider conch, they are pretty cool!
I was at the lakemore goodwill and purchased those three shells even though they weren’t perfect. It was fun to see them show up on your video have a happy and warm and peaceful holiday.
How fun!!! I always love seeing a local thrifter shop before or after me to see the shelves and what they chose!! 🤗 Happy Holidays to you and your family too!! 💕🎄
Thanks for taking the time and giving a field analysis too. Will be interesting to see if prices come down, or if Goodwill is committed to the current model, of sending best stuff online, over-pricing mediocre stuff in brick and mortar store, moving it along to the bins or landfill to make room for more, taking the tax write offs for employees, disposal fees...somehow it is working for them. I have been burned buying stuff online from them, they are not careful to check for damage.
Yeah, without seeing the details of their books, we won’t know how/what’s working for them. I do know that I’ve seen huge success in other community thrift shops who do silent auctions and price the other 98% of the donations at low prices that benefit people in the community (and resellers.) The rule of supply and demand should have prices coming back down, but they likely won’t come all the down to where we think they should be. You are one of several people who have said they were burned by the auction. 😑 Resellers work hard to protect their reputation and good seller ratings by disclosing issues, taking good photos, and shipping/handling things with care. What incentive do low-pay goodwill employees have to do those things? The expertise is lacking across the board and I’m not sure how they can fix that.
Yes, our GW's in Oregon are so outrageous on their prices, I quit shopping most. They have stuff on their shelves for months and things are so packed it's too hard shop.
Ugh! I really hope they figure things out and change their pricing policies. They aren’t doing right by their market, their mission, nor the environment! Do you ever try to talk to the managers at your GWs? I am constantly giving them feedback - both positive and negative, when I identify something.
Hi Amy and Mom it is ashame that they price things so high. They could sell it lower cost and get more in volume. But always love your videos even if don't buy. I just love hanging out with you. So lots of love
I hope the prices are adjusted when they see their sales volumes shrink. 🤷🏻♀️ Thank you, Peggy! 💕 I always love your comments and I appreciate you hanging out with us! Much love!! 🥰
Hi Amy and Marla! It's Anny from that day. Thanks for the shout out! It was great to meet you and your mom. Merry Christmas 🎄 😄

Our goodwill is ridiculous with prices. Merry Christmas

Ah!! That makes sense! Those legs were pretty neat! Being in Ohio, we don’t run into a lot of unique shells. 😊
Thanks, Lisa!! 😘💕
