- In this episode D is introducing his Top 10 Napa Caps that he drank in 2022.
They are all the most recent 2019 and 2018 Napa Cabs.
Limit was set at no more than $150/ bottle.
Here is D's list in order of price:
1. 2019 Beringer Knights Valley, $28
2. 2019 Robert Mondavi, $45
3. 2018 AXR, $75
4. 2019 Ghost Block, $80
5. 2019 Stags Leap Wine Cellar Artemis, $82
6. 2018 O'Shaugnessy Napa Valley, $83
7. 2020 Caymus, $89
8. 2019 Double Diamond, $85 - 135
9. 2018 BV Georges de Latour, $140
10. 2018 Mayacamas, $150
Great reviews Dietmar and I was especially pleased that you featured some of my favorites such as the O'Shaunessey and the BV GDLT!
Thanks George!
O’Shaunessy is nice.
Great video, D. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Thanks Griller!
This guy's voice reminds me of George Beverly Shea, RIP. Great voice in other words!
Thank you, Brent
Great video! I hope you find more Howell Mtn wines - O’Shaughnessy a good add. Try AonAir or Reverie II as well. Kill the Caymus - over rated & manipulated, I think most of us are moving on. Maybe some Mt. Veeder fruit? Diamond Mountain? Wish you all the best, Doug
That's what I like to see. D with multiple bottles in front of him 😊 great show. I loved it.
Thank you, Michael!
11 bottles is a good yardstick.
Hey Dietmar, if you get the opportunity I highly recommend you pick a bottle of the Details, Cabernet Sauvignon. This wine was recommended to me at my local wine shop ($25) and I thought it was amazing. After seeing the wines you like, I think our palates are pretty similar and that you will really enjoy that wine. Thanks for taking the time to make the video, I really enjoyed it.
Will absolutely try the Details!
Details seems hard to find. I will have to order it. Vivino has it for $35. I haven’t seen it anywhere cheaper
Great show! Napa is getting even more pricey though. Some of my favorite wines have doubled over the last three years.
Yes, I see on average 30 increases.
Beringer Knights Valley is a notable exception. But then, it’s technically not Napa.
Visiting there it's even worse. It's getting ridiculously expensive.
What a coincidence that the restaurant I’m going to has the same vintage as your video for the Mondavi, Artemis and Caymus! Does that mean you’ll recommend the Mondavi over the other two?
2 or 3 years ago I could get the Artemis at any wine shop for $55. Wine from Napa is going crazy on price increases.
You are absolutely right. Stags Leap Artemis is one of the wines that increased the most
I can find it for close to that at the Supermarket!
Hey Dietmar, enjoy your channel. One question, have you tried the Venge wines? Like their Cab Silencieux? Great wine that holds it’s own with the wines you listed…just thought I would share.
No, I have not.
Will have to try the Venge Cab.
Thanks
@@decantswithd They have a great everyday wine called Scout's Honor, but then jump to Cab called Silencieux which for the $ is a great value. Take care!
I saw the Faust on the countertop but you didn’t mention it. I love this wine.
It was under consideration. But did not make the cut.
im a bordeaux drinkr but new to napa wines. i have been recommended to try shafer one point five. is it a good wine for someone who seeks good quality wine but not way too expensive?
1.5 is very good, but is not cheap.
There are great Napa cabs throughout the entire price spectrum.
Chateau Buena Vista on the low end.
Barnett at the middle, and Arjenstone, O’Shaunessy and Mayacamas at the other end.
Faust would’ve been in for me. Cahoots by Piña, Joseph Phelps CS, Scattered Peaks… all before the Caymus. Love the BV!
All good wines
Thanks for all the recommendations! Caymus truly is the nectar of the gods!
It’s interesting, not everyone feels that way
The ‘gods’ can have it….please.
Grape juice.
I want to follow you on Vivino but don't know how. I watch you every week!
Ron, look for Dietmar Ostermann in the Vivino app and click the follow button
Thanks Dietmar. I tried that several times but you don't show up.
I follow him on Vivino. His handle is The Regular Guy From Long Island
Big heavy cabs, very expensive here 30% more than whatever you paid for them in the U.S.Great to drink once in a while but much to heavy to drink regularly.
My preference is Italian Sangiovese or Nebbiolo.
I like those too
No duckhorn?
All these wines are from big wineries. What about big wineries x smal production wineries?
Mayacamas makes 5000 cases annually. They are really small. O’Shawnessy is also considered small.
But size was not a criteria in my list.
No Venge 😢
Can you invest in a mic? I can tolerate so so video but not audio.
Already purchased. Just started training
@@decantswithd thank you...just subscribed.
You need to invest in a sound engineer
caymus is way overated...agree on eveything else
Thanks Joe!
A lot of people feel that way. And I do understand why.
Get a mic the sound is irritating
Nice videos ! What is your vivino account ?
Dietmar Ostermann @vivino
@@decantswithd i think i found you under the regular guy from long island
