A hotdog. Hey, I'm from NZ and cut and split all my firewood by hand, even having to send it across the valley via home rigged zipline (flying fox). My trees are 30 year old bluegum (eucalyptus nitens). The tallest one is upwards of 50m. I oil all my wooden tool handles twice a year, I mix linseed oil with turps and put it into a length of PVC pipe with a cap on one end. Each tool handle gets to sit in it for at least an hour. I brush on the other bits of the tool as using a rag tends to wipe it off. I make my own handles out of various native timbers I have growing here. Kanuka goes good but I have to dry and fully season the wood before making it into a handle. Each and every handle I make is unique with the knots and contours giving it character and an ability to "fit" your preferred grip. Great clip, I enjoyed it. Cheers!
I grew up with German Shepherds, and I`m blessed to currently have one of the most gorgeous Silver Sable German Shepherds ever! And I`ve got a little Blue Heeler to keep my shepherd company...they are quite the pair! Thanks for the great videos, Jason! I always learn something new from you.
Siberian Husky......His name was Max and I really miss him. Good video Jason, I learned something about axes today, thanks. When I was growing up, we split our wood with wedges and a sledge hammer, this looks a lot easier and safer.
Rottweiler/Great Dane mix but has the Rottweiler look. It's a huge dog, very menacing looking but has a wonderful, loving, and loyal temperament. Great video sir.
Favorite dog? German Shepard followed Very closely by a Belgian Malinois. So, my male is a half & half. He has the personality to match. My female is 100% Mal.
This video is motivating me to sharpen these two person saw blades that were my great great grandfathers I have hanging in my workshop. They have to be well over 100 years old.
Here from your videos on survival dispatch. You make good content man. Good camera angles too. Looking forward to seeing your channel sky rocket. Keep it up .
I have a Border Collie/Pitt Bull mix, he is the most loving dog I've ever had. But God help the person he senses animosity towards his "pack" from... if we'd had the money to train him up, he would be superb. But we love this 85 lb. 'Lap dog' anyway, he's a comfort, and companion par exelance!
I don't know if I can choose a single top favorite from my top 5 Dog breeds. They are from largest to smallest: Rottweilers, Pittbulls, Beagles, Pugs and Chihuahuas.
I found a spokeshave is really handy for fitting handles. I understand the old tool thing. I love old woodworking tools. I grew up heating the house with wood and spend some time splitting rounds. My dad would always say this will make a man out of you. Especially when the maul bounced off the round. My favorite kind of dog is one that is loyal and well behaved with family, but if the a family member is threatened will come unglued. But I do like to watch border collies work sheep.
Looks to me it would fit better if it was turned upside down. Opposite side >> if a maul bounces off the log mean 1 of 2 things. The cutting edge is to blunt or to dull
Bench dog is very obedient -- always "stays" on command. My innate capacity to over tighten nuts and break screws and bolts makes me highly qualified in the field of over-compressing wood grain. Have to agree that your method of seating the axe head is as good as the mallet-on-handle-end -- but only when the "ground" is completely free of vibration and dampening effects. Unfortunately, the brickwork under that handle end did not qualify there, so a few good raps with a 2 lbs sledge might've got another couple mm worth of snugness (fully justifying any shortcuts taken at the shaping stage). And by all means, give yourself a break on the appearance of the metal wedge -- after all, the Fiskars axe is a good example of flawless appearance but joint-wrecking effectiveness!
Now l know if you country you should know that a dried piece of oak will tell you how to split it by looking at the lines at the top of block... good video as for pets Australia Shepard then goats are good pets also
I prefer a fiberglass handle over wood ~ Reason i can grip them better, and they absorb shock better. Less shock on the hands and arms. I hate a slick handle that been vanished ! >>> I'am not a pet owner at all. I've been threw the heart breaks of it! and i don't want to get attach to any more animals! I had Every pet most people never had. Monkeys, squirrels, coons ect ect ~ A DOG? That a hard question. Cause i dearly love all animals. I guess a BOXER or PITBULL > My favorite Pets is a Rabbit, Deer, and Squirrels ~ There so loveable and funny > I have to be really hungry to shoot one
TRUE FACT ABOUT FISKARS: they have a life time UNCONDITIONAL warranty on ALL their hand tools. Take a pic of it broken and email it to them and they send you a new one. You don't even need to say how you broke it.
Border Collie; but fair warning to the uninitiated: know what you might be getting yourself into before going down that road. Some BC's will test your patience early on. They need a job, and they need to be socialized if you're in a city. That goes for many breeds.
Hey Jason! Id recommend doing a paracord overstrike collar. I do it to all mine to protect an over strike and also it looks good! Heres a link to my video on doing it (im sure you know how to lol but here you go ) ruclips.net/video/Q_VPOXJrp24/видео.html I really enjoy the content keep it up! I have since leaned away from the cross wedges and gone to the barrel wedges! They do not drift like your cross wedge did! Thanks for sharing!
Id spend the 11 bucks for a new handle to replace it every year if I had to before I ever put a big ass thick guady looking paracord wrap on any of my axes or mauls

Great to see someone secure enough in themself to show a real world " not youtube perfect " job...
Ha! You won’t find perfection here. Thanks for watching.

Jason. that's a pretty good bruise on your arm. When you get old, like I'm getting, it doesn't take much to create a blood bruise under the skin.
Ha! I’m pretty sure that is grease or dirt or maybe a bit of both.
I'm dogless here but my favorite breed is the Polish Lowland sheepdog
I don't know if I can choose a single top favorite from my top 5 Dog breeds. They are from largest to smallest: Rottweilers, Pittbulls, Beagles, Pugs and Chihuahuas.
Enjoyed your video. I know this is two years old but your question was favorite dog? Mine is Plott hounds and Boston Terriers
Great video!
Yeah people say that about Fiskars that if you break them you can’t fix them but I’ve also never heard of anyone breaking one.
I found a spokeshave is really handy for fitting handles. I understand the old tool thing. I love old woodworking tools.

Excellent!
Favorite dog, 100lb German Shepherd named Axel can be as aggravating as a hemorrhoid, but looks the part of a guard dog
I love the sound of rain on the tin roof or tarp. Is that calamine lotion on your daughter's arm?
No again. Probably just dirty as well. Ha!
So I am guessing medium rare is not the expected answer for favorite dog???? Oh and a very nice use of your Khukri.
Ha!
My Favorite dog Probably be the pitbull because I have two. However I love them all truly are man’s best friend.
Love pit bulls!

It looks like it’s upside down to me
I've had plenty of those projects. The last step goes wrong and you're stuck looking at it for years and years
I loved my dog growing up, he was a black lab who was as dumb as a box of rocks
Hahaha!
Why not put some oil on a can and soak the head and wedge?
That could work.
My favorite dog is a French Poodle, and you could have grabbed a bar of soap to take a shower in that downpour you had. Lol.
My favorite kind of dog is a purebred mutt
Mine too!
German Shepherd

My poodle terrier mixes.
I’m partial to Labradors, but that’s because my parents raised them. I’m not really too interested in caring for animals I’m not going to eat.
Labrador burgers?
Better than wranglerstar
