@@mikeallosso 😂it’s still magnetic it’s not aluminum
It seems like the smooth inside of the pvc pipe would be fine over time and what need for any magnet.
He sure moves his head fast at the end
The way it sags, I don’t have confidence in its longevity. It doesn’t look repairable. If it breaks or bends you will have to rip the wall open to fix it.
If it were my house I’d put in a conventional door like a dutch door or a wrought iron gate. Or build this sliding door external to the wall, with heavy-duty full-extension drawer slides
It doesnt have the magnet catch on the other side yet. If you made the pipes longer to counter the sag that would fix that problem, but it would need to be 1.5x longer to properly work. Which mosts homes dont have that space.
I was thinking the rails get dirty from dogs or children and sliding it in and collecting in the sleeves which are uncleanable
Yep… needed to have a few of those rods solid
Doesn't look that complicated to manage. As long as nothing breaks inside the wall you'll be able to maintain it without cutting the drywall. The sag is irrelevant. As long as it's supported when fully extended.
Great design
There is no way this gate saved him any money. I like the way it looks but I'd like to see some sort of a locking mechanism on the opposite side. And good luck building your door jamb or wall around that
Is this a dog gate?🤣🤣 if so,my dogs would clear that like nothing..
To be fair, he probably won’t put a door there because if there was a door there would be no need for a gate
@@NG..probably saved the money by not putting a door lol
Inb4 the dog figures out that the gate is essentially a ladder to freedom
Cant wait to have to service it
Great idea!
I've seen a house with that in it, and it works great. I don't have any place I could put one.
I like it 👍 it’s going to piss off the dry wallers lol
Why would it. Doesn’t effect installation
Drilled holes right through your 3-ply bearing posts too, good job.
Can you not see the header they put in to support the holes they drilled😂😂😂
Tell me you dont know shit without telling me...
You're fired "Trump voice"
@@GinjaNinjaAttakno further observations were made
@@GinjaNinjaAttak still doesn't add back to the structure, just diverts. Still a failure point.
Dog people will put their dogs before human lives; doesn't surprise me that they'll sacrifice structural integrity for a stupid dog gate, too.
I like it . Looks really good
Contractors always be like, "the shit people ask for, man I tell ya- just look at this shit, man"
Facts
And then they charge you as much as possible 😂😂😂😂😂😊😊😊😊
Great a ladder for junior.
Not only saved money, it's going to look a whole lot better than one you buy, when finished😊
the one you can buy.... WONT SAG 🤣🤣🤣
Stop the cap
that wouldnt hold a puppy in!
Save money? This is far more expensive and wait till it breaks and you want it replaced.
@@nukacola3795 for one the pipes should have been longer and for 2 there should be a recess or magnetic plate on the opposite wall to support/latch it
That's wonderful!
Use a magnet on the wood side to help it level up and I'm guessing you'll have a little latch or something. Very cool.
I want to see how he connected the rods to the plate on the end. Also how did he keep everything aligned perfectly? I know how to do it but not everyone has a CNC milling machine in their garage.
Looks like it would be a perfect ladder for a young child to climb over in order to escape his unexpecting captors.
A poodle would definitely climb that! Should have put in vertical bars
Great Job Mate - excellent idea and execution is good - arm chair critics can always make improvements but you actually did something they did nothing so keep going Boet
That's one of the better versions I've seen.
Most have just punched a bunch of holes in a single 2x and didn't plan on it folding or cracking after the Sheetrock and other things were added.
Bro why are your walls folding and cracking from their own weight?
Huh??
@@brandondrew4914glad to see I’m not the only one confused
Yes. That is one of the smartest freakin ideas I’ve ever had. As that house has generations living in it, they will always have a dog gate or baby gate.
Use a tighter tolerance receiver tube to eliminate sag
Maybe some ball bearing and a magnetic catch 😂🤪
Or just a wheel on the end to add support. Once it is fully extended, as it’s purpose, the sag is irrelevant.
Do ya think that'll solve an ED problem too? Asking for a friend, of course
Nice idea thanks
Build a short pocket door instead, with verticle pipes, no more than 2-1/2 inches apart (baby safe), to placate the naysayers! Good idea, just some evolution in the thought needed!
Until they climb that is
Then he would have to crawl on all 4s to get to the other room.
How about just a door?
I agree a half pocket door would make more sense. That design is just a ladder.
@@vasicdude9430you wouldn't want to completely close off the walk ways for a variety of reasons. 1. You want to be able to see the baby or dog being held in the other room. 2. Air flow 3. Expense 4. Completely enclosing a hallway with doors can cause confusion during an emergency
Innovative and elegant - I love it!
Beyond awesome!
He essentially made a ladder for the dogs to climb over to enter the room.
I love it and want several. Just make sure to tape it up before the drywall guys f* it up.
Would love to see the complete construction. This always irks me for some reason.
Love it!!! They're going to love it, too!!
Looks more like a doggy ladder!
You the only one in the comments who has a dog 😂 children ladder too 🙄
Yes lol
My dog would leap right over that!
Surprised that the inspector passed you.
Why
Yeah, why he even put a header over it? So the wall strength would not be compromised.
Interior wall and probably not load bearing if he did this
Last time I bought a baby gate it was like 30.00. Headline should have read, guy spends 1k on in Wall baby gate!
It didn't say it cost 1K$. It said saved over 1k$.
@@benjurqunovokay so what did you say with $1,000 on?? A baby gets $30... So we saved $30 spending probably an extra hundred on this wall plus the other f****** materials... He didn't save $1,000 that's for f****** sure
I said the same thing
@@benjurqunov He didn't save that much because they don't cost that much get it now?
Good baby/ pet gates are $75-125 (Biden's inflation is 🤯). But ya, even the good ones aren't $1000 lol
I applaud the ingenuity. The guy used some creativity and made his own to fit his needs. This is how cool stuff gets invented. Maybe it doesn't fit your needs or needs modified to be even better, but i still like his drive and willingness to share his project with others who've never built anything but are quick to critique.
Keep up the good work!
Best comment here 😃
Show us the finished door.
He didn't leave room for the trim. There doesn't appear to be any plate other than the 2x4. What's he going to do? Drywall around that?
Everything house should be built with this . For kids and pets . Love it
A grand on what, what was supposed to go there, I would say 150 in drywall and marerials
That's a cool idea
That is awesome! Add air powered slide that can be both button and cell phone controlled. That would be sick.
Why wood you even think about air when you could use a couple electric actuators. No air compressor that's noisy and will leak for sure.
That's was a cool built ,sir.❤
Damn I hate nothing more than reading all the negativity thrown out from all these miserable people. Instead of wasting your time online to bash somebody or hate on somebody how about try to see the good or appreciate some ingenuity. I bet everyone who comments something negative hasn't made or built anything in their lives. Cool design man!
Yes...licensed contractor/cabinetmaker, now retired , have built damn near everything ever made with wood....this is a lame-ass doggy door, poorly executed craftsmanship, and I thank you for wasting my time on this reply, as well.
I've built many things in my life. I'm always impressed when somebody takes the time to use some ingenuity and do something themselves. This however was not thought through completely. There isn't a toddler in the world that's going to be stopped by this gate and neither will most dogs. He's created a ladder that actually poses a health risk to small children. The first thing they're going to want to do is climb those ladder rungs and they're definitely going to fall off and hurt themselves. I have three kids and none of them would have been kept anywhere by this gate past the age of 1 1/2
That looks like the best baby or dog gate that I've ever seen. Incredible job.
That looks like something somebody would be really proud of building
Love how the panel housing the gate on the door frame sticks out a good 1/3 an inch so you wont be able to properly seat and seal a door on there without another 75 dollar plank of lumber
...Do you seriously think a door is going there?
It's probably just a drywalled opening.
It's built for a cased opening, I'm guessing that end piece comes off the rods so they pass through the jamb and are then reattached, or how would he place a door jamb in the opening.
