Love the videos. Reminds me of my solo walking in the west of Ireland, the creaking of the boots and rucksack straps. West cork, Sheepshead way, Beara way, Kerry way , Dingle way , Burren way, Connemara, Mayo, Donegal and ten islands. Loved every step of the 3. Thanks again for the memories.
Loving how you don't let things get you down. Spilling rain, you have to walk just to get food for the day, you can't get money out when you need it and you're still all good. I just can't get my head around how your legs and your feet continue to carry you on these journeys. Mine would be screaming at me 😄 I'm already looking forward to the next video, safe travels 👍
Haha these things can definitely feel tedious in the moment but I suppose you learn to shut out the ego and just get on with it ! Cheers my man. The next video is on Long Island and by the way, my feet definitely scream at me most days 😂
This series has just been brilliant to watch. I look forward to every update. And dare I say, I think your singing is even improving 😅. Love it! Thanks Derek!
It is lovely coming across those finds and learning little bit about the place you're walking through. .It makes it special and . memorable. Cracking video as always Derek!
I stayed at the castaway camp site two weeks ago. You’re in for a treat. What a place. The island you’ll be looking at from the site is Cape Clear. Don’t miss it. It has a gorgeous campsite also. You can get a ferry from Schull or Baltimore. It’s a magical place.
I had originally planned to ride from Schull to Glengariff, but I broke a back break cable crashing and wrecking my folding bike in Kinsale. My injured shoulder would not support my pack so hiking wasn't on option either. I had to rely on the busses to get me around Ireland. I loved Skull though, I stayed in a guest house across from the Centra. I loved how the tractors just whized through the center of town. I am coming back, but since I will have my 12 year old son (10 now) we will be renting a car. I do want to drive my originally planned route, including Priest's Leap on my way to Kenmare. I love your videos. Hitting that subscribe button. Cheers!
Derek if you're heading toward Bantry, there is a beach about an hour (by car) heading toward Mizen Head called Barley Cove. It would be a great camp and it looks like it belongs in the Caribbean (on a nice day). You should check it out.
I think I jumped the gun, I should have watched the whole video before commenting lol. It didn't think you'd cover Schull in this vid lol. Next time :D
Was wondering where you are! Glad you’re carrying on! Great content, gorgeous scenery, lovely singing, and I really enjoy your commentary & the history & little known facts about a place👍🏻 keep up the great videos Derek & making those cows smile 🐮🤣 they always run over to you!
Where you learning the words to strange. Very good. Loving the vids. Prayers for good weather. Very nice down there. Hard to imagine a long walk. I could do a few days. But must be good to exprience a great escape. What would be your long time scale.
This is just an interesting coincidence having to do with Skull at the time of An Gorta Mor - The Great Irish Famine. I am a collector and have had this well-know letter for some time. It was auctioned in New York yesterday, 26 July! Here is the write-up: Often quoted in Irish history books, this 1847 letter from General Relief Committee Chairman Myndert van Schaick in New York to the Quaker Relief Committee in Dublin, speaks for itself: "…I have promised two old Irish gentlemen who came to this room abounding in sympathy and thankfulness, that I would say to you that a letter has been received from Thomas Swanton of Cranlieth, Co. Cork, representing the extreme destitution and misery of the large Parish of Skull. East Skull, a half parish, 6 miles long and 8 broad, containing 8,000 inhabitants is particularly recommended to your attention. Though we clearly see the danger and the impropriety of interfering with your system by giving special instructions, yet less than this I could not promise to two gray haired old men…"☘☘☘💚💚💚
You must have the fittest legs in ireland. But a good cuppa and a bite to eat makes life worth living. Have you ever though about doing a sponsored charity walk, say for a hospice or the homeless. I love the doors song that you sang.
