+Kizzie Reads YES!!! Exactly!! And it was very well written. There were things that came to light in the second half that I had no idea had happened! It was very interesting reading both sides of the marriage.
I actually felt like the writing was the opposite of succinct! But I get what you're saying because she always had the exact right word for every single sentence. I loved this book so much.
Okay so I've been trying to find a way to express how I feel about this book, which I think you expressed really well: I really didn't like the characters (and I don't think I was supposed to) but the story was so compelling that I couldn't put the book down. I just finished it so I'm going to let everything swim in my head for a bit longer, but I will say that I have been thinking about the story nonstop, so that must count for something. Great review!
I'm glad to hear what you thought about it. I want to read it so bad but our library hasn't gotten it yet. Hopefully soon! It sounds very intriguing. Great video!
+amylauren You could as the library to make a request for the book. I've done that a couple times at one of the libraries I go to. It doesn't mean the library will get it, but at least they know there's an interest. I hope you get it!! xx
You mentioned her writing reminded you of Hemingway, which I can see now that you've mentioned it, but Groff really brought to mind John Irving's writing for me. I had to keep putting the book down because I didn't like the characters and I just wasn't invested in them. Some of the writing was gorgeous, but all in all, I found it to be a solid three stars.
At times it's wonderfully written and insightful (especially in terms of disappointment), but I just didn't believe in the marriage, and the backstories just become too much like a soap opera.
It's kind of like Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn, where you absolutely hate the characters but the story is so engaging, that you just have to finish it.

Another great review - of a book I will probably never read. But you never know! You always have such interesting observations --
Three quarters of the way through, is anyone going to explain why he was pushed off the airplane with no retaliation?
Felt better while watching this video after putting it at 2X speed. Nice review.
