The cardboard cut-out fights are so charming. Especially since they come immediately after the hell that is the barber boss fight. It was a nice pallette cleanser. This song helps elevate that charm even further, so it quickly became one of my favorite songs in the canto thus far.

The """Magician"" has the same name as Don's friend in the book. Sansón (Sampson). The same one who tries to stop Don's delusions with the fake identity of The knight of mirrors.
Failing the first time then succeeding the second time after another fake identity = The knight of the white moon.
So yeah i think the whole theatre play was a ploy to make Don remember how the tale actually went, since the bandits, horse and bear were most likely nonsense created by Don viva her unreliable narration.
