    和一个美国医疗界的朋友刚好聊过这个问题,其实在美国肥胖和贫穷是息息相关的。很多人并不是不知道要吃的健康,是因为他的钱袋不允许。在美国,新鲜蔬果,海鲜,肉,尤其是天然食品,或者像阿福说的one single ingredient是很贵的,相反,糖果,巧克力,膨化食品和精加工食品却很便宜。

    • @xjpqusi
      @xjpqusi 2 года назад +24

      美国很多grocery的菜肉真心不贵,而且经常有力度很大打折,农产品也不需要交税。自己做饭不会比吃垃圾食品贵,但要额外付出很多时间精力倒是真的。再多说句找打的话,快餐店也可以点得相对健康。麦当劳的汉堡🍔其实没那么不健康,而且你还可以加几毛钱多加蔬菜,真正不健康的是大杯含糖汽水和炸薯条。把汽水换成无糖的茶或免费的水,把炸薯条换成苹果,不会长胖。但人类刻在DNA中对糖对炸物的渴望很难改。

    比較起來德國超市垃圾食品包裝大部分是小很多,感覺德國學校裡面餐廳提供的食物比美國的健康點,一個美國紀錄片,裡面訪問學校,他們把薯條當成蔬菜,所以就是薯條配上炸雞之類的肉,這樣就是一餐😂營養完全不夠,熱量倒是很高,德國的餐點,大部分還是會給沙拉,蔬菜等等,不過也是炸的,烤的菜比例多點,不像我們喜歡還水煮,清蒸,比較健康

    I’m a Chinese living in America and honestly the only reason why American eat while on bus or driving is to safe time. They would rather spend 30 min where they can sit down to make a good meal or eat a good meal on sleeping or doing something else. When they need sleep in the morning before work the easiest way to solve breakfast is by stopping by McDonald’s or Wendy’s since they are pretty much the only option at 6 am in the morning.

      That's an exaggeration. He's doing this video to appease certain audience. 99% of the people don't eat a meal while driving. People may snack on something while driving, maybe even eat a piece of toast on their way to work. People do that everywhere, he pretended to eat french fries and burger while riding a back and it's ridiculous, of course. However, switching to snacking, you do see people riding a bike and snacking, that's very common.

    如果非要有一个标准来判定美国肥胖人群,那么就是收入水平。收入越低的人群,肥胖率越高。道理也特别简单:吃同等热量的蔬菜和垃圾食品,吃蔬菜的花费要比吃垃圾食品高好几倍,更不用说蔬菜还要烹饪,需要时间和精力以及做饭的炊具等等。所以美国很多节目都深度报道过美国肥胖的问题,最终得出的结论就是收入水平。

      Yeah, most upper-middle class Americans tend to flock to organic and more natural sources of food instead of processed food because they can afford it most of the time (at least in my area). Most Americans have to resort to processed foods because it's obviously cheaper to maintain foods with preservatives and what not, but then it's also because most of this food is ready to eat straight out of the box. People tend to have 30+ min commutes to work, so driving and eating instead of waiting to get home is more optimised than potentially using up 30 minutes of your free time after work. It's pretty saddening.

      Food access is a big contributor to the US obesity pandemic. In China, access to fresh fairly cheap food at small restaurants and street vendors is common. In the US, the quick cheap food is fast food and gas stations. Also, most people in the US drive everywhere instead of walking.

First, not all Americans eat like this and it was very crass of you to assume that they all do. Second of all, you lacked research into why some people eat like this. It's not because it's a choice it's because of poverty and lack of choices in the U.S, especially in certain parts of the country. Third, you talk like you're a health expert when just 1-2 years ago you were overweight yourself. Were those choices you were making for yourself also because of conscious unwise decisions that need to be brought down by negativity or were you just experiencing a lack of choices around you?

  • @Hipposter
    @Hipposter 2 года назад +157

    I really love this channel! (And I never comment on videos ever) But was excited you made a video about America. Usually you seem very thorough in understanding different cultures so it would have been nice if you talked to an American about this. Actually the average consumer at Costco is a 39 year old Asian woman with $125000 USD yearly salary. Not your average obese American. Obese Americans tend to not have access to fresh groceries, in what we call Food Deserts because of socio-economic-political reasons. This is a much more complex issue than just Americans wanting to eat unhealthily and not being able to control their diet.

    • @Plaguerizm
      @Plaguerizm 2 года назад +49

      Completely agree with this. I love your channel, but this video was really disappointing. I enjoy that you take the time to visit different parts of China and introduce the nuances of regional cuisines and cultures. Yet, here we're told there is a "standard American diet", and of course, it's the stereotypical super-sized junk food diet. I'm 1st generation Chinese American, and I frequently bounce between the US and China. Chinese grocery stores are also filled with processed junk food, this is very universal problem in this day and age. Much of the problem is socio-economic, as Hipposter mentions above. Regardless, there is no "standard" American diet or American person, just like there is no "standard" Chinese diet or Chinese person. Afu, I commend you for all of the educational content around diet and exercise, but I feel like you really missed the mark with this video.

    It's not the number so much that counts, but the quality of those years. If I live to 60 or 70, I want those years to be the best they can be - same as if I live to 100 or more! The reason to eat healthily and exercise isn't so much about weight or body image or whatever else, but it's about what makes you feel your best and happiest. The standard American diet is a recipe for systemic inflammation in the body that does you no good whatsoever. But I also agree - everything in moderation! And of course we don't want to be unhealthy, but there's issues with price, access, convenience, and culture that have intertwined and managed to make obesity an epidemic here.

A sugary drink with a burrito for breakfast; a combo meal from Chick-fil-A or In-N-Out for Lunch, and a takeout from a likable restaurant for dinner. California is also home to a few of the healthiest cities in the entire US: LA, San Diego, San Francisco, etc. On top of that, think about all of the racial diversity in California. So, who is the average California?

    Hallo Thomas, I watch your videos from time to time and enjoy them. Having lived in Germany for over a decade and being married to a German I can relate to your approaches and see that peculiar sense of humor sometimes :),, on this video however, there is too much generalization & stereotyping of entire population. America has people from different backgrounds whose culinary heritage is also diverse which I enjoy so much. You can have Mexican food for breakfast, Italian pasta for lunch and say like Japanese for dinner. It is a fact that there are so many people who are overweight and so many deal with consequences stemming from overweight. I personally don’t buy any from your shopping cart and neither do the ones I know around me. Overweight issue is not one dimensional solely blaming 3 ingredients. Compared to your other videos, this one felt a little flat. Please keep up with your varied subjects 👍 , now I even turned my stubborn German husband to watch your videos sometimes :) Greetings from Virginia

    Don't even talk about American's diet that will lead to obesity. In the past, I don't follow American's diet but I found that my weight kept increasing and my waist getting wider because I have rice daily. It's in Asian genes that we are prone to obesity! Now I run on weekdays and weekends are so called 'cheat' days for me to enjoy all those fried food and unhealthy food! :)
