This is a much more complex issue than just Americans wanting to eat unhealthily and not being able to control their diet.
Completely agree with this. I love your channel, but this video was really disappointing. I enjoy that you take the time to visit different parts of China and introduce the nuances of regional cuisines and cultures. I'm 1st generation Chinese American, and I frequently bounce between the US and China. Chinese grocery stores are also filled with processed junk food, this is very universal problem in this day and age. Much of the problem is socio-economic, as Hipposter mentions above. Sam's club looks exactly same as Costco. I think you are talking about the poor Americans who eat junk all the time. If you go to the rich neighborhood, no one eats like that.
Yeah, most upper-middle class Americans tend to flock to organic and more natural sources of food instead of processed food because they can afford it most of the time (at least in my area). Most Americans have to resort to processed foods because it's obviously cheaper to maintain foods with preservatives and what not, but then it's also because most of this food is ready to eat straight out of the box. People tend to have 30+ min commutes to work, so driving and eating instead of waiting to get home is more optimised than potentially using up 30 minutes of your free time after work. It's pretty saddening.
@@ZenovaXD Most poor people eat terribly in America because they are lazy and cheap processed food is very satisfying. Also the increase in obesity makes a person think their obesity is normal because so many people around them are fat too.

Hallo Thomas, I watch your videos from time to time and enjoy them. Having lived in Germany for over a decade and being married to a German I can relate to your approaches and see that peculiar sense of humor sometimes :),, on this video however, there is too much generalization & stereotyping of entire population. America has people from different backgrounds whose culinary heritage is also diverse which I enjoy so much. You can have Mexican food for breakfast, Italian pasta for lunch and say like Japanese for dinner. It is a fact that there are so many people who are overweight and so many deal with consequences stemming from overweight. I personally don’t buy any from your shopping cart and neither do the ones I know around me. Overweight issue is not one dimensional solely blaming 3 ingredients. Compared to your other videos, this one felt a little flat. Please keep up with your varied subjects 👍 , now I even turned my stubborn German husband to watch your videos sometimes :) Greetings from Virginia
I’m surprised that a formerly obese person would include this kind of non-consensual footage of obese people. I know they do it on TV but I think it’s unethical. These are real individuals with feelings and a right to dignity. You may say you included your former self too, but that’s your choice and you earn money that way. I’m sure you don’t mean to hurt anyone, but this ain’t right. Besides, as many pointed out, this is a complex problem and many Americans don’t have the opportunity to be healthy.
you're right about how many steps we have every day. The main reason is that we have cars to drive everywhere. Each day to have 3000 to 5000 steps is already very good. Also, we eat in the car mainly because of being stuck in the traffic. Drive-thru and having a quick bit is good enough for us.
I have serious issue with the content of your video this time. This is seriously one of your worst video to date. LIke seriously, where do you find some of the "American facts" that you keep referring to?
Why don't you talk about diet and lifestyle of a common German? I'm sure everyone is curious as to what a typical European/German eats and does to keep fit. Thanks Thomas.
Good idea but actually Thomas is not from a traditional German family(once said by himself in one of his video)so maybe this is why he doesn’t choose this theme😂

Hey Thomas hope everything is OK with you and your wife. I just saw some really horrific videos about the situation in Shanghai on Twitter. A corgi was bitten to death. People are starving. I was wondering if you could confirm on that? I don't want to get you in trouble or anything. But it would be very very important for people outside of China to know the truth.
Afu did your media company get acquired by The Global Times or something? Or is every influencer required to make a certain amount of Wolf Warrior content every year? Disappointing
How's life in Shanghai these days. I have seen some horrific videos from other media about people fighting for basic needs. Can you give us an update? Worry about yall who are living in Shanghai.
Shame, isn't it? While he talks about American's eating habits, he can't post video about how disastrous in Shanghai these days. But I have high hope for Thomas, he will give us an update. He doesn't have to treat the Chinese government the same way he described how American eat junk food. Fingers crossed.
It's not the number so much that counts, but the quality of those years. If I live to 60 or 70, I want those years to be the best they can be - same as if I live to 100 or more! The reason to eat healthily and exercise isn't so much about weight or body image or whatever else, but it's about what makes you feel your best and happiest. The standard American diet is a recipe for systemic inflammation in the body that does you no good whatsoever. But I also agree - everything in moderation! And of course we don't want to be unhealthy, but there's issues with price, access, convenience, and culture that have intertwined and managed to make obesity an epidemic here.
Here’s my observation of a standard diet for an averaged Californian. A sugary drink with a burrito for breakfast; a combo meal from Chick-fil-A or In-N-Out for Lunch, and a takeout from a likable restaurant for dinner. It’s not that healthy, but it’s convenient and cheap compared to grocery shopping and cook up urself.
Still far from eating a jumbo size potato chips, a whole small pie of pizza, and burger and fries, as a standard daily diet ... Given typical working class doesn't eat as healthy as they should, but still far from what he's saying.
Who is the average Californian though? California is so diverse in every single metric -- average income from San Francisco vs. cities in the Central Valley can differ by 2x. California is also home to a few of the healthiest cities in the entire US: LA, San Diego, San Francisco, etc. On top of that, think about all of the racial diversity in California. So, who is the average California? This is to say, not everyone in California (or the US) is going to Wholefoods and getting exercise in 5x/week, but conversely, Californians (and Americans) aren't all eating fast food on a daily basis.
@@justicesaint7817My guess is the typical image of a “American diet” is still attached to the stereotypical standard from early 90s. Things have changed tremendously but not so many people know abt it outside the United States.
You are always welcome to visit the San Francisco Bay Area, where almost everyone is on a diet and into fitness. We can show you around the new version of SAD diet.
I think u should check out Japanese food. They always eat fresh but small portion. That makes the difference. I think overeating is the problem for the US. Too much supersizing. German food also too big of a portion. I could never finish my plate when I was eating in Germany

但美國白人当薯條或焗薯便是所需蔬菜,说"this is vegetable; otherwise, what is it?"。。。

How are things in ShangHai? Could you please give us a update?
you're right about how many steps we have every day.
Danke!
Why don't you talk about diet and lifestyle of a common German? I'm sure everyone is curious as to what a typical European/German eats and does to keep fit. Thanks Thomas.
as someone who lives here: a looot of bread and walking
Good idea but actually Thomas is not from a traditional German family(once said by himself in one of his video)so maybe this is why he doesn’t choose this theme😂

Hey Thomas hope everything is OK with you and your wife. I just saw some really horrific videos about the situation in Shanghai on Twitter. A corgi was bitten to death. People are starving. I was wondering if you could confirm on that? I don't want to get you in trouble or anything. But it would be very very important for people outside of China to know the truth.
Yes it is really important to let people outside to know what happened in Shanghai at this moment
Hahahaha good job..... pigging out without the Wife lol
@@Plaguerizm fax. Wholefood is quite pricy for most of average incomers
@@justicesaint7817My guess is the typical image of a “American diet” is still attached to the stereotypical standard from early 90s. Things have changed tremendously but not so many people know abt it outside the United States.
very factual. Good experiment! Adore your spirit! )
You are always welcome to visit the San Francisco Bay Area, where almost everyone is on a diet and into fitness. We can show you around the new version of SAD diet.
The same as the rich suburbs in Perth. But does that neccessarilly mean it is a healthier diet and a healthier lifestyle? I doubt.
Ich möchte über deine Erfahrung während ShangHai lock down hören.
I think u should check out Japanese food. They always eat fresh but small portion. That makes the difference. I think overeating is the problem for the US. Too much supersizing. German food also too big of a portion. I could never finish my plate when I was eating in Germany
