From Leo: Glad they sent you that guitar, especially for free. I have a favor. When you do your deep dive, could you measure the neck size against a normal Fender spec neck, and also maybe see if a Fender pickguard looks like it will work. I love the color and it might be a cheap way to buy a finished body.

congrats! a new chapter for your channel...free guitars! how the hell do they make that for that price I'll never know...maybe it's 3d printing...hmm...good to see you pass it on!
I recently bought this Strat Left handed. Waited 9 months for the lefties to be back in stock. It was worth the wait. It's very good! And I have many other budget Strats to compare it to. I got the mini amp with it and a slew of other goodies. The pups are good, I'm not changing them. The Donner Verb Square pedal is very good as well, it's on my p/board.
Another thorough and humorous deep dive, Landon. Really seems to be a decent looking and sounding yet cost effective instrument. I really appreciate all the effort you put into your videos. Thank you!
Hey Landon. Nice that you're getting gear sent to you and that you're honest about it. Good and fair unboxing / mini-review. That bridge pickup output isn't balanced with the others that's for sure.
I have not played a Donner guitar, but if there's a giveaway and somehow I win, then I will! Love the red finish. You're living the dream, sir - companies sending you guitars for review! I would love that!
My first guitar was this Donner strat in sunburst! I have a Squier CV as well now, but I still get a lot of good use out of this. The frets aren't bad at all and the neck is quite flat. I replaced the guts with a $45 red tortoise pickguard with Wilkinson pickups, and slapped a Graphtech nut in there. It has excellent tone now and I keep it in my car for practicing when I'm on lunch during the week.
Congratulations on moving up in the RUclips world. Thanks for detailing the fingerboard radius. For pretty much any guitar cheaper than a Squier I expect a 12" radius as on the Harley Bentons but neither reviewers nor retail sites usually supply this. I'm a geezer who much prefers 9.5" or even 7.25 " but these new guitars seem to be worth looking at.
Congratulations Landon! It's not Fender but then again it's much more affordable plus it's a sweet looking guitar. Heck, you can give one of the Donner guitars often. That'll help grow your channel. I thought it sounded pretty good. It's a good modding platform too. I'm interested in seeing how it's routed under the pick guard. I still think congrats is in order for ya. Wear that thing out and gives us the low down on it. Later Landon ! You and the family stay warm up their. ❄☃
Thanks for the video. Ordered in Canada through amazon. I have a custom telecaster replica (bullet type, only with the bridge pickup) and a Epiphone Les Paul Vintage, but needed a type strat sound to complete my set. Didn't need something too expensive, this guitar seems to be very good option and perfect to make some tracks on custom music I create for films score and videos that need live feeling, speciallly with guitar that needs the bends and stuff. Was going to order saphire blue, but liked how the red look.
Wow mate that candy red donner kebab looks tasty ! For the price it seems ok too chuck some chilli garlic on it and sounds nice.. Lookin forward to the swan dive 😎
Landon, I am the proud owner of a Glarry S-type guitar that I got shipped to my door for slightly less than $50! I got it on sale (!), and I think that that may have helped me get a better guitar than I might have otherwise. My idea is that Glarry puts guitars on sale when they think they have too many clogging the retail channel. When that's the case, guitars may have had extra time for their woods to dry and season. By the time my Glarry got to me, it had reached the point that the fretboard didn't shrink to cause "fret sprout", and the neck appears stable after a few months of acclimatization time. The Glarry and that Donner make EXCELLENT upgrade platforms, since they have done so much correctly. Even the frets on my Glarry look shiny! I intended to do a fret job, but may settle for a touch-up in the future. I've replaced the cheap (CHEAP!) bridge and string nut so far, and the guitar is now well on its way to being impressive, if it isn't already. This one is a little bit of an experiment for me, because I completed the upgrades on a pawn-shop-prize Peavey Raptor Plus EXP a few months ago, and I want the Glarry to be different. The Peavey REALLY ROCKS, but I put a brass-and-steel bridge in it to help with sustain, and then added brass block saddles to warm the tone (which worked very well) -- with excellent results in terms of sustain and tone, but the bridge weighs the guitar down CONSIDERABLY! I therefore consider this guitar as a "studio" axe and am trying to make the Glarry into a "stage" guitar with a lighter weight. To that end, I bought my first Wilkinson bridge for it -- all steel, no brass. Same graphite Guitar Center string nut for both. Thing sounds so good now that I'm waffling on the idea of swapping out the cheap pickups. I didn't change the Peavey's pickups for the same reason: The guitar wound up sounding so good that I decided that I didn't want "better" tone over the tone that I had right then! I meant, though, what I wrote about making the Glarry different, so I'm still leaning toward new pickups for it. While I'm sure everyone would agree that the year 2020 has been REALLY BAD overall, I must say that it is a very good time for buying really cheap guitars. I got started playing in the 1970s, and cheap guitars then were pieces of crap that you had to endure if you wanted to get to any good instruments. The only thing the cheap ones were really good for was separating those who REALLY wanted to play from those who didn't. Those real players would fight with those cheapos until they (we) didn't have to anymore. Now, we have it much better. Cheap guitars are now so good, at least oftentimes, that they don't need immediate upgrading and sometimes don't even cry out for much adjustment to be playable. On the adjustment front, information on how to set up guitars and the tools needed to do so is easily available on the internet, with tons of it right here on RUclips! One can even turn one's guitars into works of expression and art by buying aftermarket parts with which one can change/govern their looks and features. One can make the guitar as individual as anything created by Eddie Van Halen or Les Paul; we all can have our "Frankenstrat" or "Log" guitars which are completely our own and owe little or nothing to anyone else! The sky is the limit, and the real hard part is knowing when to STOP! This is the right problem to have. Landon, one other thing: Do you modify guitars? If so, then this is a great opportunity for you. Mod that Donner and share your processes and philosophies with us. What would you change or not change? What would you select to make your changes with? Would you go inexpensive or balls-out? Show what you do and how you do it, and what with. Sound good? I hope so.😎❤️️🎸‼️
@@landonbailey You might consider doing both: Modifying the guitar, then giving away the result. A good way to multiple goals ... education and generosity, by turns. Just a suggestion.
@@dustin2867 ..It is a great guitar….for.the:money. The neck is straight. It sounds great and plays well. The edge of the fret bars are a little bit sharp, but nothing that a file can’t fix. I had given my 1973 Gibson to my son and only had a Taylor 214 to use.
Electrolysis between frets and strings is the reason for the string wrap. Happens with dissimilar metals in close proximity. We don't want fret divots under the strings on a new guitar, or old one in storage. A few years ago I went to an estate sale. The son showed me his father's '50's tele that was never played except at purchase. It was perfectly brand new. But I saw deep, narrow divots under the plain strings on the first 3 frets! I did some research that gave me the answer..... The Candy Apple paint job on that is gorgeous. I've had a couple of candy apple red guitars, and they looked quite different. The main reason being that some of them have a silver undercoat and some have a gold undercoat. By the looks of it, that's a gold one, which I prefer the look of. With a nice set up, and perhaps an upgrade or two, that could be a really nice guitar, especially as it's dirt cheap to buy new.

Pretty impressive paint job. That humbucker wasn't muddy or shrill as is the case with many stock pickups on affordable guitars. It sure as heel looks like a Ferrari compared to the affordable guitars that were around when I was just starting to play. t was spend 350 to 599 to start out with or buy a cheaper one and hope that it wouldn't cost as much in guitar tech visits to get the thing to be decent.
I just got the "antique white" which is more like a pastel yellow, lol. I have my fair share of sub $200 guitars along with expensive brands. Surprisingly, it played very well after doing an initial setup on it. I was even able to get the action down very low even though there are a number of high frets. Unfortunately, the frets are some of the smallest that I've ever seen, so leveling them might not be an option. Will end up replacing neck anyways. Overall, with a new set of strings and a setup, it's a great starter guitar for the price.
Congrats Landon, Donner makes a nifty pedal board too by the way **hint hint**. I use their patch cables they rock! By the way for the Allen joke, thanks I don't feel so lonely using it anymore. The colour is GORGEOUS 🤩
I'm gonna give this guitar the Bill and Ted "NOT BAAAAD!" I'd probably try it out, as I've been wanting to check out Monoprice guitars. I'm always a sucker for cheap-ish guitars, and I have been surprised at how much you can get for so little money now... If this is similar on Monoprice, that's good to know. It is definitely a very pretty finish on this one. Thanks for the nice review. Oh, the second to last face you made near the end where you cut your eyes over hard is the BEST click-bait-y face for a thumbnail. I challenge you to do that as many times as possible for a whole day...just because.
Landon, good vid sir, just got one in black and it appears to have a problem staying tuned even as played just after tuning! I have seen some say, get better strings for it. What say you? Thanks for any response,
Actually not bad at all. It sounds great. Love the tone. It has a country style sound i like. The color is very nice. Hate even heard of them. But that is great for the price
I once heard a man say, " I've never met a guitar I didn't like. " I can't understand how they can sell them at that price. Enjoyed the review as always,
I got the blue one for 70€ a year ago. Setup wasn't very good, got some buzzing strings. That's why I got a 20€ refund. I changed the pickups for Teslas, changed the nut and made a setup, now it's quite good actually.
Too bad they didn't do this before Amazon Prime ... these guitars were rather well priced during. It was 140$ Canadian during Prime. I actually grabbed a their single cut in very Surf Green. Quite a charming alternative to an Epi. And you are correct, Donner should spend some extra effort to update their pictures on Amazon to show these guitars better.
Things are often cheap because they are priced by the extra cost of producing it, once the fixed costs are paid for. So, it might take a few hours of labor to produce it, once the manufacturing is in place.
This will be a good giveaway, someone who wants to mod it a little as its not worth putting hundreds of dollars into it, but can be decent guitar for a beginner. Patiently waiting for the full review video on this one!
I really like the looks of it. So many inexpensive guitars out there. Monoprice (Indio), Glarry, Harley Benton and Donner to name a few. I'm sure the tremolo follows the cheaper line in tuning stability eh? Donner hmmm will it eat the other guitars you think? Thanks for the vid. later
@@landonbailey I picked one up a couple of months ago. The Indio by Monoprice Cali Classic, Blue Burst. DBG did a review on one a while back and I loved the blue. Maybe they would send you one to shake down? Cheers!
Just a friendly tip I learned from Sweetwater ~ don't open a new guitar on the day of arrival, no matter the season, because the finish may crack. Best to let it sit for 24 hours to let it acclimatize to your indoor environment. : )
Honestly it's not that bad I mean for a beginner like me I mean I'm looking for a beginner guitar because of this reason My story December 31st 2019 at 5:45 p.m. here in New Milford Pennsylvania on route 29 I was involved and one of the most horrific car crashes at people I've ever seen in their life. I was hit head on at a combined speed of 125 mph at the scene of the crash which I don't remember much anymore I was told that I lost 80% of My blood and that basically during surgery I die twice on the operating table and was brought back I was in surgery for 13 and a half hours. I broke my tibia shattered my fibia and so many places completely destroyed my left arm and had to have rods pins and screws in both legs both knees and my left arm completely rebuilt from The joint to the hand. I spent about a month and a half in the hospital and then I went to physical rehab and I spent another week and then I spent another eight to nine months at home physical therapy. The pain that I went through was there's no words to describe it as whatsoever. I am currently disabled now because of the accident the guy that hit me and was his fault and , unfortunately it would do the Pennsylvania law that if you don't have a certain amount of money you can't collect so my settlement not much at all. I was told that would never walk again or do this and do that and I refuse to accept that I do walk I do drive but I'm at 70% of my life the rest of my whole life I'll be 70%. Meaning that I will be able to run or do physical meaningful activities like I used to. Before that in 2012 my fiance killed herself on October 15th my other dog passed away on December 15th 2012 my mom died January 27th 2013 and then two years later I lost two more people two more relatives two best friends and so on and so on and then my uncle and my aunt passed away and then I had the horrific accident that changed my life. And when you're on disability and don't have a lot you know when you want to learn something you know the only rift I can play was like the one that you did with the jammy wrap that's about the only rift I know and I know a few other chords and a few other songs but it's been a long time so I am definitely a beginner in fact even somebody sent me a free one of those easy guitar kit things that you put on guitar so I could learn more for free so that was nice but don't have a guitar to play yet Curtis Bynon 87 Cobb Street New Milford PA 18834 USA valacbynon@yahoo.com
I have a seen a few Donner reviews. Generally the reaction was similar to yours. They seem like a reasonable low cost option a few dollars less than Squier Bullets.
My recent guitar from Amazon is a LYX telecaster left handed all my eight guitars made left handed I love for 106 dollars I was very surprised maple next ash color I love it also has that telecaster vintage bridge
All credit to Donner ,they didn't send you a script or offer $$$ to say something nice - it happens! With that bridge Humbucker and whammy bar , you can be the next Eddie Van Loader.

The colour is GORGEOUS 🤩
hey cool. I have a good pedalboard so I’m good with that one :)
I challenge you to do that as many times as possible for a whole day...just because.
it’s similar to the first gen of guitars Monoprice had. I had their California Classic. I can’t say it’s like the Indio models.
@@landonbailey Ok cool
10:07 I thought we was going to relate. I answered yes and he replied "I don't"....I dig your nonchalant humor.
Landon, good vid sir, just got one in black and it appears to have a problem staying tuned even as played just after tuning! I have seen some say, get better strings for it. What say you? Thanks for any response,
ya that's not a bad idea. Give that a try and see if it helps a bit
I'm not sure a free guitar makes up for the lack of chocolate orange Smarties in Canada though... ;-)
I've always been a sunburst fan but I'm loving this finish!
It figures that one of Santa's reindeer would make a red and white guitar - ho ho ho.
DAMN IT, LANDON!! Where do I get a shirt?! Cool video by the way and yes - I am a subscriber!
There’s a STORE tab on my channel. It redirects to Teespring
Loving the video timestamps description!
Glad you like them! I try to make them interesting
@@landonbailey tbh you don’t have to. We don’t mind with “lots of talking”!
Actually not bad at all. It sounds great. Love the tone. It has a country style sound i like. The color is very nice. Hate even heard of them. But that is great for the price
Enjoyed the video and your sense of humor. Seems like a decent guitar for the price. Proves you don't have to spend thousands of $ on a guitar.
I once heard a man say, " I've never met a guitar I didn't like. " I can't understand how they can sell them at that price. Enjoyed the review as always,
True story
I am excited! Just like you!
Congratulations! There are a lot of small companies doing a good jobs with affordable guitars
Very true!
Well done.
Looks awesome. Love the colour. Never heard of Donner
Just under $200 CDN with tax here in southern Ontario. Not bad at all and with a setup even better.
A give away is needed for this yeah pal 👍 be ideal if a newb got it as it seems good for what it is
Congratulations 🏆✌️🎸
I got the blue one for 70€ a year ago. Setup wasn't very good, got some buzzing strings. That's why I got a 20€ refund. I changed the pickups for Teslas, changed the nut and made a setup, now it's quite good actually.
Good on you brother! Very cool.
I think you should see this guitar with the eyes of a beginner player. If its a good guitar for someone who wants to learn how to play, then its good.
Welcome to the Donner Party bro!
Good video, nice looking guitar. Would like to see the insides. For 100 bucks you cant go wrong
ya the inside is always fun to see :)
This will be a good giveaway, someone who wants to mod it a little as its not worth putting hundreds of dollars into it, but can be decent guitar for a beginner. Patiently waiting for the full review video on this one!
youre a few months late :) ruclips.net/video/C7n-5m3i3Sc/видео.html
and there was a giveaway already
@@landonbailey you caught that did you lol. It was a misprint, should have read was a good giveaway lol.
@@landonbailey I watch your videos more than once. Always pick up something new the next time around. Keep up the good work!
oh ha! no worries
Dude! Nice. Love the saying
Hey Landon. How does the thickness compare on the Squire scale. Thanks, the free guitar musta worked. I just purchased one to have an S style guitar
I’ll check out all the specs in a deep dive review video
I like what donnor is doing it's nice to see manufacturers try to compete with glarry and other companies in this price point.
Diggin the shirt dawg!!!
Why are you the best at guitar reviews? My girlfriend likes your videos and she doesn’t even play.
well I’m definitely not the best, but always appreciate the compliments! cheers
I think changing strings would give it a lift for a starter and don`t forget to strecht them ;-)
I really like the looks of it. So many inexpensive guitars out there. Monoprice (Indio), Glarry, Harley Benton and Donner to name a few. I'm sure the tremolo follows the cheaper line in tuning stability eh? Donner hmmm will it eat the other guitars you think? Thanks for the vid. later
I liked the first gen of Monoprice called the California Classic. Haven’t tried their Indio stuff yet
@@landonbailey I picked one up a couple of months ago. The Indio by Monoprice Cali Classic, Blue Burst. DBG did a review on one a while back and I loved the blue. Maybe they would send you one to shake down? Cheers!
Collab time. Just the beginning. Good for you.
I watched another reviewer (yeah I watch others) and he had good things to say about Donner as well.
good to hear :)
Im glad im not the only one the squeaky sound kills. Its a double edge sword!
go check out some of my recent unboxing videos. it hurts so much! lol
Just a friendly tip I learned from Sweetwater ~ don't open a new guitar on the day of arrival, no matter the season, because the finish may crack. Best to let it sit for 24 hours to let it acclimatize to your indoor environment. : )
probably with extreme temperature changes
Honestly it's not that bad I mean for a beginner like me I mean I'm looking for a beginner guitar because of this reason
My story
December 31st 2019 at 5:45 p.m. here in New Milford Pennsylvania on route 29 I was involved and one of the most horrific car crashes at people I've ever seen in their life.
And when you're on disability and don't have a lot you know when you want to learn something you know the only rift I can play was like the one that you did with the jammy wrap that's about the only rift I know and I know a few other chords and a few other songs but it's been a long time so I am definitely a beginner in fact even somebody sent me a free one of those easy guitar kit things that you put on guitar so I could learn more for free so that was nice but don't have a guitar to play yet

I have a seen a few Donner reviews. Generally the reaction was similar to yours. They seem like a reasonable low cost option a few dollars less than Squier Bullets.
hey cool! I didn’t know they made electric guitars until this week
@@landonbailey Well, news is slower in CANANDAA!
Pretty cool. I have their pitch shifter and have annoyed many a neighbor with my rendition of 7-Nation Army.
👍🎸😝
The squeeking to you , is Smacking to me.....It sends me into a rage.
My recent guitar from Amazon is a LYX telecaster left handed all my eight guitars made left handed I love for 106 dollars I was very surprised maple next ash color I love it also has that telecaster vintage bridge
I have been playing 47 years singer guitarist I played many places
If the build is good with a complete set up it should play real good.
I have a Donner guitar and its actually really nice.
same colour?
Super cool
You finally made it! All you had to was film yourself going broke buying guitars, and they started giving them to you! 😂
😝
Does it have a fat neck or is it a standard sized guitar neck, thanks 🎸👍.
pretty standard thin shape
@@landonbailey thanks, im buying one 👍.
Good video and nice guitar
Thanks!
I have that same reverb pedal and a blues driver type from Donner and live them.
Never tried their guitar but I like a few of the pedals that they've made.
A guy looks like Bill Murray and Brendon Urie had a kid.
I’m their son. yes :P
You should do stand-up too, man.
All credit to Donner ,they didn't send you a script or offer $$$ to say something nice - it happens! With that bridge Humbucker and whammy bar , you can be the next Eddie Van Loader.
I don’t think I could do a script.
@@landonbailey 😉👍
I've always liked Donner.
It cost you nothing...that is good....so I guess the guitar is GOOD FOR NOTHING.
no it's priceless :)
You should review the squier bullet mustang hh
ya maybe one day :)
The headstock shape looks the same as the Harley Benton Strats and also the Artis Guitars Strats too.
I just checked out Artist and ya looks very close if not exactly almost completely similar maybe
Looks nice.
You need to give it away to an 74 year old who took up guitar just a few months ago. 😃
