Oh how I miss that weather already! Fantastic bike, fantastic roads, looks fab.....and early doors on the shoulder front (thanks for asking) - not sure it's Rocket 3 ready just yet!!
Haha good news Andy, yeah bikes wonderful. You need to test it again when your shoulder is better 👍
Nz has a few.
Nice that they've named it after the British Summer. Very patriotic 😂
@@starfox_wr-45e93 classic, thats a good one matey. What summer?
@@Ian-bq7gp That's the joke.
But ironically, it's really sunny today lol
I live in Tennessee in the US and have a triumph dealer nearby always stocked with Rockets. Even so I've only seen one out in the wild. And what a beautiful badass bike it is!
I'll be running a higher horsepower GT version of the new Rocket 3 version at the Bonneville Salt Flats this August. Besides the tire speed rating, the aerodynamics and the ability to hang on will be limiting. Hopefully the salt won't be a water puddle this year like last year.
I am in the USA and to answer your question I almost never see another Rocket on the road. And I have over 80,000 miles on my 2020 GT. I have no clue why they are not more popular. When this one wears out I will get a shiny new Rocket 3
80k! That's a properly used bike. Congratulations.
@jimmanders9971 respect to you sir for those miles covered in style , but we both know it will NEVER wear out! 🏍 😎
I only seen one in the street in USA one day driving from NYC to North Carolina (near North Carolina) and it was a GT...
I’d guess it’s not more popular here, because of the cost. It’s not a cheap bike by any means.
@@jimanders9971 i reckon tyres are one reason as you can wreck a back tyre quickly. Go on the bright side as a car tyre goes a good 15k miles and it still handles really well ive heard. What a great, solid, under stressed, strong AF engineand gearbox, especially after 2007. What bargains the rocket 3, thunderbird 1600 and 1700s are secondhand, theyll go to und the clock in miles and 40 mpg and that low down stomp is crazy, especially as its standard, detunes and 340 plus bhp out of TTS supercharger and rediculous torque too means head cases only apply and i imagine those BLUE Angels from Glasgow would fit the profile as does the Bar, loony, undesirables, eccentrics label theyre famous for and Glasgow and the citys history.
I hope you win the lottery Chopsy and get yourself one of these. Fantastic Triumph, great looking machine.
My 2016 Triumph Rocket III is highly modified & highly customized with 12:1 compression, 260hp & 190ft/lbs of torque. 18" apehanger handlebars, and forward foot controls, etc. 0-60 in -2.3sec and the 1/4 mile in -9.6sec @ 138mph. Blacked out, murdered out. A Beast, and an Utter Blast to ride. It will make the most seasoned rider giggle😂
I simply can't ride it enough. I have to replace tires every 3000mi, front & rear. The cost is utterly ridiculous for these tires😢 But worth it!😅
Stay Safe Ya'll!!!
I folded up a 2013 Rocket 3 at the Bonneville Salt Flats in 2023, it was 260 horsepower. The salt was very wet and the bike had a bad weave but still we had a 162 and 164 mph runs before crashing on the the third run. It wasn't my bike and my first ride was at 162 mph. This year I'll be taking a 2021 Rocket 3 out there again this year but with only 165 horsepower.
@flatcapcaferacer
Sweet!
I've had my Rocket, 'Beastie', up to 168mph, and it still wasn't full throttle! I had to back off, I ran out of road. The speedo only goes to 140mph, but I was using a GPS 1/4 mile app. It works great!😂
Oh yeah, my Beastie is 280hp using race gas😵
Did you have injury after wreaking the Rocket at Bonneville?
317Kg!! Holy dead weight Batman 😲, that is a serious lump of iron to throw around! Straight line performance to die for without a doubt plus the comfort a sports bike rider can only dream of. It may well handle well "for it's size" but a sports hack it ain't and never pretends to be of course. I guess it all depends how high you set the bar through the twisties. Not really my bag at all but I can see the appeal to some, just as a SOTA 200+hp sports bike pulling 100+Kg less will appeal to others.
La Rocket realmente es una moto, mirándolo uno no se cansa de hacerlo porque es una super moto. Saludos desde Margos-Perú. Hispanoamérica.
Id luv to ride a rocket in Peru
These bikes are a marvel of engineering, beautiful beasts
So glad Triumph made the new Rocket , i traded a 2020 Gsxr1000R for a Rocket 3r and have no regrets, the torque just makes me smile ever time i get on it .The quickshifter is ok not great compaired to the Gsxr .The handling will surpise a lot of folks as its fine concidering the weight of the bike .The Triumph engineers did a great job on this bike the quality of finish is superb and who ever designed the rear footpegs deserves a pay rise .
Love your videos Chopsy.
Still love my TFC launch edition with the higher power output after 4 years. The first bike I’ve kept for more than 2 years and I have no intention of changing it for anything else. I’ve added the Nitron suspension and it makes a huge difference to the rear in particular. Also needs an aftermarket exhaust for the sound that matches the rest of the bike.
Folks still come up and ask about it. Tell them it’s 2.5 litres and watch their mouth drop 😝
Avons are still manufacturing the Cobra tyres, taken over by Goodyear and there were a few delays last year.
I imagine the Avon tyres are the ones that last more miles
I had a red Rocket 3R... then I moved to a Diavel V4.. I remember watching your comparison video while I was waiting for it to arrive. I started missing the Rocket watching your review of both bikes. Wondering if I made a giant mistake. Well now I am back on a Chrome Rocket 3R. For me Diavel the was a let down in every category I cared about. Comfort, Torque off the line, build quality and reliability... did I mention I also am done with chain maintenance at this point in my life? I am glad I came across your channel your enthusiasm is infectious. Thanks for the great content. Did you feel a substantial power difference in the Storm Edition tune ?
Thanks buddy, well not sure if I could tell the difference... Would need to back to back them 👍
Have one 3Y, decated, tuned +30hp, +20Nm, restrictions off= dream Bike. So much fun that the clutch said byebye. fixed and sooo happy💪✨
Thats my next bike, I love it ever since one went past me slowly on a lane in Henfield having my lunch and my van shook as it crept past me to his garage I assume
American here, I definitely see them in the cities with Triumph dealerships!
Chops, You should of gone to the Triumph bike night last week at Hinckley, More Rocket 3s than beef burgers 🍔 on display 🏍️💨💨💨
I can't lie, it really suits you Chopsy. I can definitely see you buying one in the future
Took the GT version out during a Triumph Demo Day at a local dealership. Like you, cruisers are not really my thing, but the torque and sure-footed handling completely blew me away for such a large motorcycle. Loved every minute of the test ride, even though my arm sockets are still in recovery mode😮
Totally agree! 👍
You should try out the Ducati Xdiavel S, not the Diavel. The Xdiavel is more similar to the Rocket 3 Storm. Massiv amount of power and you feel like a star on it! Got one back in 2022 as my first bike.
That is alot of them sold. I haven't seen them on the road here in the U.S. but people here do buy bikes and then never ride them too.
Must demo this thing , probably the only cruiser I'd want I'm having to much fun on my aprilla tuono factory 😂
Man alive, with that much torque you could tow your house and save booking a travelodge…. Beast +. Awesome job chops. 👍
Thanks buddy 👍
🚀 TTS SUPERCHARGER 342 🐎😮
Cruisers are bikes which I do not desire at all. But this thing is a glorious, freaking beast of a bike. It is like a nuclear-powered freight-train. It is a bike I wouldn't buy because I am an offroad guy. However, I would love to ride that engine on wheels. I want to experience it. You just have to thank Triumph for producing such a bloody unreasonable bike...seriously...You are spot on, Chopsy! 🤙🏼
if you ever do ride mostly on pavement the Rocket is an eye opener, lol. I have over 80,000 miles on my 2020 Rocket and I still get a stupid grin when I twist the throttle
@@jimanders9971 sounds great, mate!
Out of 18'000 Rocket 3's sold, I have one of them!
I am in the US as well. I may have seen one of these since they have been out, but they are not on my radar. They make sense for a particular group of riders and I think Triumph has done a great job with the execution.
it should be mandatory that all bike weights are in wet, like yeah let me go off on my bike with know fuel or oil
Oil and coolant yes.. but with the price of fuel at the mo, all my tanks are permanently at (E) anyway 😂
All should be measured dry, because the 1992 Honda CBR900RR Fireblade is the benchmark, at 185kg dry...think about how light those were?
I would like manufacturers to list both wet and dry weight. Cheers!
LambChop, I showed my wife the 2024 Hayabusa 25th anniversary, 2024 Ducati Diavel V4 and then the Rocket 3 Storm, and she said she loves the look of the Rocket 3 Storm much better than the other two bikes. My wife loves that 'masculine' look to the Rocket 3 Storm; not that the other 2 bikes are not masculine; but she feels that the Rocket is a level or two above the other 2 bikes... Hmmm......her tastes are normally spot on, I'll have to trust her on this one...hehehe Once you put on an exhaust and flash the ECU that number goes up to around 187 horses. Theoretically, that bike should be able to hit 180 mph on the road...
Sounds like the decision has been made 😁
@@LambChopRides She's literally spot on, nearly always, with her choices when it comes to 'fine' things of higher quality :)
Is the Storm-edition really only available this year? So, gone next year? I can't believe it.
Great review as always. I live in Boston....have never seen one on the road..
The only deal-breaker for me on this bike is the tiny pillion seat. I think if they'd done a better job at the rear end it would've been the perfect touring bike. Shame cos the rest of it is soooo bloody good
Well, I'm not an American, in fact I'm from Brazil and I am a subscriber. My guess is that Rocket 3 owners only use them on sunny weekends on highways. That's why you don't see them often on the streets.
Nice one chopsy , the rocket is one beast of a bike !! These latest models look great , suits you sir 😁😁😁👍
Great vid cheers chops and love the new intro it’s spot on 👍🏻
Thanks MrBiggles 😁👍
Track day on the Rocket??!
Been there, done that. It was a blast for sure. It was a track day for cruisers and the Rocket was the king.
I definitely prefer a 'shiny' Rocket, the blacked out Storm is a step back in appearance for me.
Having looked into it, it looks like the only aftermarket exhaust where an effort has been made to sculpt it like the original, is a Zard.
There seems to be a lot of talk that the sweet spot is the GT fitted with mid pegs. The wheels look better on the GT.
unapologetic British muscle
166 ft/lbs
You're welcome. 🙂
Ask a 10 year old to draw a motorbike, it's a caricature. Fantastic that it exists, I love it's face, like the cute face on a pit bull.
When asked about it, I always say it's absurd that it exists, and that it is wonderful that it does! Even at rather large bike meets, pretty much everyone stops and looks. At gas stations, cagers, old grannies.. This bike is definitly not for someone suffering social anxiety!
Here in New Zealand they have sold more of the modern Rocket 3 in the last 4 years than they did the old model in its 15 years of production.
You see them every where common as muck.
Very happy with my 06
Ordered one last month but won’t be available until August. Think they make them to order and that takes 3 months
I have a 2023 Rocket 🚀 R, here in USA-NJ ALWAYS Draws a crowd during Bike night 👍🇬🇧
Hey, I brought a 2020 GT and absolutely love it, have drag raced and thrashed it on the roads here in New Zealand. A total legend of a bike, I would see a new rocket most weekends on the road here very popular bike!!
Love your enthusiasm, Chops.
650lb needs 240lbft of torque.
They could tune it to 250 hp
Triumph do actually do an official accessory, a pair of red, white and blue bungees which you hook onto your knees and to the radiator to stop your legs being splayed apart over 80mph. Black for the Storm edition naturally. Track use only tho, race licence required. 😑
Here in Texas we do have a decent amount of em' Our big sky highways eat them up'
Bikes these days are so, so good, that the problem is you instantly start looking at the negatives of each bike you see in order to differentiate it from all the others. Anyone else notice this? For example I love that a bike like this exists. But they need to fix the display. It's too busy and small and laggy for the money. And also not a fan of soft limiters. Let the customer do with the engine what they want!
Chops!!!!! Review the 1975-Kawasaki H2-750 !!! Watch the views pile up!!!!
The Bugatti of motorcycles. Boss Hog is production? Decision's decision's
What gloves are those? They look fucken sick!
Had my TFC variant for over 4 years now (same power output as the Storm). Been on many tours, very comfortable. Attended Rocketdays in Germany this year (and last). 100 rockets riding in formation through the east German countryside is joy to participate in.
The quickshifter is sublime. Well worth the investment.
I'm comfortable at motorway speeds, sitting about 80-90 when on touring Europe.
TFC has Arrow exhausts, perfect soundtrack!
Best bike on the planet!
I want it so much! But I don't want to take one more bank loan (I already have two, and it's stupid too). Sigh.
Don’t leave us hanging chops what are the other 4 dream bikes money no object
I think the most horsepower you going to need is about 250-300hp regardless of bike ore weight but thats top of what you need ore kan handle. Topspeed would be around 270-350 maybe 370,380...km/h
The weight-horsepower its the limit in my mind...
You kan not go faster..well yes on a strait line bur where do you find miles after miles with a Straits road and free speedlimit...
I had the first R3 in 2004. Did 32k miles on it.
For a big boke it was a no brainer.
Hated the forward pegs, because they pushed 1.5 gees into the coccyx.
Love to try the new one with short pegs and none of that control crap.
Hooning I would get through a rear, sub 500 miles, with my big wife on the back and our gear.
Beast.
Wow i thought the 1600 TBird was great with so much low down torque. These make them look like Honda 90s in comparison.
Do you often see 3 Rolls Royce's go past in convoy where you're riding ??!??
Chopsy test ride the TTS supercharged version want to hear you scream lol😅
Pls compare this with Diavel V4. Will this be as fast as the Diavel?
Far more than just a motorcycle. This brutal machine is a statement
For a minute you scared me. In the beginning you talked with that annoying guitar in the background. And I thought "oh no, not that" Your films really don't need that. So I'm glad that didn't continue.
Thank you!
Yes, the Rocket is one of those one just can't pass without a glance. Liking it or not, it's a headturner.
Chopsy talk me out of trading in my sportster s for this beast (talk me in)
I'm just like you Chops. Wouldn't want it as an only bike, but would definitely have one as one of a few bikes if money was no object.
It is my only bike and when it wears out I will get another Rocket. I can cruise with the cruisers and do the twisties with the sport bikes. I also run to the stores when needed. Btw, over 80,000 miles on my 2020 Rocket.
I wish had a low profile tires. It will looks much better
Im on a 22 rocket 3r, havent seen another on the road, im in Colorado in the US
I haven’t seen a lot, maybe 1. And I live really close to a dealer
See quite a few in Japan - more so than the Diavel
Hey, at like 16:48'ish, is that EVEN MORE exhaust under the shaft on the port side? It can't be, but it looks like another outlet, does it not? Like a dump tube. What is it really?
You guessed right! Three cylinders, each with their own exhaust pipe - two on the right, one on the left
Yes exactly 👍
They are so much better with a tune..
The Diavel V4 is an infinitely better looking bike. It just is.
I saw one the other day and from the front it just looks like a naked bike
I don't fancy paying 4500 for an aftermarket Akrapovic to make it sound decent though. Stock sounds really poor. (I know most bikes do nowadays...) A werkes system for the Rocket is around 1500-ish.
I like the Diavel looks too but a friend has had two. First was amazing. He changed to a Diavel S and had nothing but trouble with it - electrics.
That is infinitely up to personal taste. It just is.
And for me personally, the Rocket looks so much better. But that's just me.
OK Chops I'm afraid I have to lower the tone and say OMG it's so big ...........!!!!.😂😂👍👍👍👍👍
I've only seen 1 in the US. 😢
I do want one.
I have a 2020 R3R and I absolutely love it. It's exactly how you describe....and I have to say..... As a bike journalist, you are head and shoulders above the rest, because you explain the characteristics so well.👌👍
More weight, yes
Loved my 3R but what this tells me is just how good the 2020 Rocket is, the extra power is just a remap and 8kgs lighter wet overall than the Storm despite the wheels, 🚀 and still no ‘quick shift’ TSA on demo bike, a shame
Bikes being mapped in US to 200hp,
Interestingly the first TFC had more power and lighter
Awesome video! I live in North Carolina and ride the Blue Ridge Parkway which is a motorcycle destination. I have never seen a Rocket out. I have actually seen a Motus MST-R . Which is rare. Beautiful bike as well. Best!
Great review & bike. I'm not in to cruisers either but this is something altogether different & you can't not see the appeal. It's a uniquely bonkers machine that probably shouldn't exist but thankfully does. The Diavel's probably the only standard bike that comes close.
Love to see one of these with the blue/black paint scheme and a set of Harley Davidson Chizle (sic) bars. Not a fan of forward controls. I’d definitely add a backrest for a pillion- no you can’t slide off the back pet!
The ultimate shaft drive cruiser.
Nearly all traditional inline 3's are "cross-plane" by design. Unless this is using the Triumph T-plane design.. Yamaha just likes to use the trickle down reference calling their engines CP3 and CP2s.
I don’t see a ton of these in the US
You could just buy a ‘normal’ Rocket and have the ECU flashed?, save yourself 3grand?!😊
Great to see you back Chops
I love these Rocket 3’s….I bought a Speed Twin as I wasn’t sure I was ready for that much metal😂. The Speed is fabulous too.
A soft limiter? If you can safely ride a 180hp bike are you really the kind of person who needs that?
Love the bike though.
Chopsy i think im just been childish but I laughed when you said ride the Rocket I know it wasn't an innuendo but made me laugh 😂 that been said that is 1 Awesome looking bike Triumph make some Awesome bikes 👌👌👌 great vid 👍
This bike looks like something Judge Dredd would ride !. Definitely different and interesting to look at. Not for me , first the price and the weight of this beast make it a no go for me. Not my dream bike but I’m sure it will find its way into the hearts of many who want something different.
The leg splaying is welcomed on long rides during hot weather here in Texas, USA. With the right pants, it's a bit like air conditioning.
My favourite cruiser by a mile. Way too much for Thailand, though. Nick
I love these bike and have wanted one since their launch but I can't get over the price point and the fact that you don't get it fully loaded as standard, ridiculous you have to fork out more for standard features in just about every other bike at this price, quick shifter, heated grips etc.
Is that a 3 cylinder engine? WTF 😂 insane 🎉 👍🏾🙌🏼love it Chopsy
How's the sound? Louder or low, compared to previous model? Still burbles are there?
Chops, they already had a rocket with 180hp before this one, when they launched the new model, the first version out was the TFC (triumph factory custom) that bike had 180hp, after that they brought out the R and GT with 165hp...do your research m8....😅
Come on Thunderball!!! I know I'm a sinner, but make me a winner 😂😂
I wish they made a proper touring version that is passenger friendly.
Excellent ride, it does need some decent OEM wind protection though.
I wouldn't buy such a heavy bike unless it had reverse!
Ive only saw one at a bike deal at blips in kc ,us,
Nice video nice bike what's the asking price
