    Amazing, I already did vegan parmesan with all these ingredients (except onion powder) but took me a whole process: I soaked the almonds, peeled them, dried and heated them in the oven and blended them to do what you basically did in the video to put everything together 😆This is a whole improvement and will save me much time and effort! 😁
    Also instead of garlic powder I like to use granulated garlic for a better texture, it gives it a tad of crunchiness 👌

    • @VeganPetite

      Oh my, I admire your dedication! I used to just use regular almonds with the skins on, resulting in brown specks; not the prettiest. This is a time-saver for sure, and I do like this with granulated garlic, too!

      I learned from a friend who used to give me of tips about vegan cheese, this very recipe but here comes the tip: first, almond flours needs to be very fresh and not rancid, so its something to pay attention. Second: when you buy yiur nutricional yeast, make sure if its gluten free. Why? Bcs it will change the way it was fermented during it's preparation to become yeast and as a result you get a different taste from it. Also, she told me to buy the light yellow and not the darker ones and the powder ones are better taste than the granulated ones. It works for me. When I cant find it in powder I just use a blender and turn it into powder. I hope this msg can help

      It's just that people are not specific. It gives a cheesey taste when added to something. It doesn't automatically have a cheese flavor. So when people say add nutritional yeast to add a cheese flavor, you'll think it taste like cheese but not on its own at all. I had to learn the hard way and by on accident. It does actually produce a cheese taste once added to something. Depends on what it is. For me anything I want cheese in I add that and it does help bring out the cheese flavor. Now I buy it whenever I run out. I can't live without it lol.

      English: Oh no, that is expensive! 😱 Do not worry; this recipe can also be made using whole nuts, such as almonds, cashews, pecans, or even walnuts. You will just need to pulse them in a food processor or blender until it makes a coarse flour-like texture, then mix with the remaining ingredients. Be careful not to process the nuts too long, as they may turn into a nut butter.
      --
      Hrvat: Ma ne, to je skupo! 😱 Ne brini; ovaj recept se također može napraviti od cijelih orašastih plodova, poput badema, indijskih oraščića, oraha ili čak oraha. Trebat ćete ih samo miksati u procesoru hrane ili blenderu dok ne dobijete grubu strukturu poput brašna, a zatim pomiješajte s preostalim sastojcima. Pazite da orahe ne obrađujete predugo jer se mogu pretvoriti u maslac od oraha.

    I’ve been making the blender version for years - why didn’t I think of using almond flour instead of almonds? The blender never pulverizes all the almonds, so there are always little chunks. Not a deal-breaker, but this is so much simpler. I use it on popcorn (can’t imagine popcorn without it!!). My recipe doesn’t use onion powder but I’m willing to give it a try. And the nutritional yeast @PsychedlicGoo makes it taste good. Striving to reproduce the exact taste and texture of meat/dairy/egg-based foods will get you lots of chemicals and generally less nutrition. A certain cheese substitute readily available in grocery stores tastes a lot like cheese and slices and melts like cheese. It has a lot of calories, fats (although some of them may be indigestible) and plant starches. No protein, vitamins or minerals.
    Years ago I lived in California and we all ate Monterey Jack cheese. Then I moved to New York, and Monterey Jack wasn’t available (this must have been before refrigerated rail cars? haha) but marvelous sharp cheddar and something new: Jarlsberg. So instead of moaning over the lack of my favorite California cheese, I learned to love what was available. Becoming vegan, I embraced the same mindset. Don’t waste your health trying to replicate animal products, eat plants and avoid stuff made in a factory. (That said, I miss barbecued ribs … but it’s really just the sauce, not the meat.) Last observation: Impossible Burgers taste and look just like the things they used to serve in my high school cafeteria: sad, gray tasteless things. Must be a moral there somewhere.

    • @VeganPetite
      @VeganPetite 8 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you for your insight; that is a great mindset to have for anyone going vegan! And yes, the little chunks of almonds when I used to make this in the blender would drive me crazy; I could never get it perfect until I switched to almond flour :)

    You can use no-salt salt substitute (replaces sodium with potassium) to make this have almost no sodium at all (nutritional yeast has a small amount of sodium ~40g for this recipe). Doesn't really taste like parmesan but it is a tasty substitute.
