Yes, I think 4:04 is model 2101 (no air inlets under the grill). VAZ (or Lada) used to be famous in domestic rally events in Finland. As far as I know the tuning parts were difficult to get ready so many people just tuned up the original engines in their garages by using for example Fiat parts. I was told that the basic structure of the original engine is quite good but you must turn and grind off a lot of material from the components because many parts are quite oversized.
Our neighbour, The Finns, have always had the tradition of putting magnets alongside their rallystages in order to keep the contestants alert and on their toes at any give time. There's a steep learning curve, but that's the only way to nurture the natural talents ^^ -Cheers from Norway ^^
LOL, apparently Finnish race coordinators "spice things up" by taking one tricky corner on each stage and changing it to a "mild right-hand sweeper", or whatever. Thins out the pack pretty well, keeps the drivers on their toes because they never know which corner it'll be until it's too late, and gives the spectators something to do (they slip the word to their friends and family before the race, so they'll all know where to stand with the cameras, of course).
What stupid officials to allow this to keep happening! In Australia if a couple of cars had gone off there would be advance warning. Each car costs a lot of money as well as a lot of lives are put a risk!
Are all these cars rear or all-wheel drive, or do they rally FWD cars too? Some of those cars would never be sold as anything but a FWD in the US, but maybe it's different in Europe?

They should have studied the track better. The problem isnt the curve, good drivers can make worse curves than that. It could be miscommunication between driver and codriver, it could be bad drivers, car not tuned correctly, a number of things. But it isnt the curve.

I hate how my countrymen destroys all these old bauties in rallying. AE86's, rwd Escorts, Cortinas, Anglias, Mantas, Kadetts... I wouldn't mind if they destroy common muck cars like BMW E36 etc
I wonder how many Escort they must have produced...in every rally clip they crash at least 20.....and how much cans of beer 2:50 to be that "shitpissed"....
