I love how Mark is explaining his take on the movie, in a such way, as if he's actually holding a genuine conversation with you. Great review buddy, keep up the good work!
Why was Ben savage and his brother the go to kids to tell stories too?
It's what makes him such a successful unregistered sex offender. He really knows how to lure the kids in with "genuine" conversation. It's a good thing he's Canadian because in Canada they are more lenient with their offenders than most other 3rd world countries.
@@jennyanydots2389 I'm sorry what...
Airport security is way worse and more incompetent now. Before 9/11 it was a free for all yes. Since 9/11 airport security is run by the government. Can’t get any worse than government run.
@@markb3451 More political hot takes... you don't actually have any idea what the airports are currently like. You just want to sound anti government politically because you're a douche bag without the ability to objectively reason your arguments. Shouldn't you be watching fox news right now?
When Fred Savage was told a story by an old man, he got The Princess Bride. When Ben Savage was told a story by an old man, he got...this.
😆👍
“Who cares the movies almost over” - Mark almost every episode

@@docsnake 😊
It’s true, usually by the time I’m nearing the end of writing I’ve watched the movie twice and I’m just sick of it
@@FanboyFlicks we appreciate you for that!
I was watching this and wondered if Charles Grodin was still alive, so I looked him up, only to discover that he had just died today, on the same day I was watching the video. Great actor. RIP.
:'-(
If you haven't, check out Midnight Run.
One of my fav movies ever. Everytime I show it to someone they turn to me and say, "how the hell did I not know this existed."
Martin Short is a treasure, which is why his career has been underground for decades.
Lol, you get an A+ for that!
Yikes 😂😂😂
This movie was hilarious and I love til this day. It was completely ridiculous and over the top and I think that was the point. Clifford was supposed to be a psychopath. The reasoning wasn't really important. Any movie from that era can be picked apart the same way. Ever seen Weekend at Bernie's? That movie and the main characters are completely insane.
Haha good one. He definitely don't seem to b doing much since jimmity glick or whatever. He was good in inherent vice imo.✌
That's really funny, and also very true, because his type of humor is the least "it's a small Dutch troupe, you probably never heard of them" kind of style possible 🤔
This is one of those movies where my dad would yell for me, to get me to come downstairs and watch with him. We’d find all kinds of crazy/weird movies, like Lars and the Real Girl, Tankgirl, etc.
Awwww ❤️ That's actually adorable..
I love Lars & the Real Girl!
Tank Girl was a cool concept but man that movie SUCKED hard.
Wait was it so u guys could laugh at it or did he actually like it and make u watch it ?? Hahaha
@@DonRoyalX Lol to laugh at it. My dad likes Martin Short and a bunch of SNL stars, but it was mainly Clifford’s obsession with dinosaurs, cause one of my nephews goes ape shit when he sees even toys or dinosaurs on tv. Also probably due to the fact, my dad and I were pretty wasted.
“There’s probably a no fly list for people who try to crash a plane.” 🤣🤣🤣
He loves kids just as much as he loves dogs... like a St. Bernard!
😆
😂😂😂
Some would say he loves kids a little too much and that's the real reason he's in the offender database.
😬
@@jennyanydots2389 He is? I can't find any info about that. Are you thinking of Jeffrey Jones, the principal from "Ferris Bueller's Day Off"?
honestly your idea of the guy getting caught in a lie and having to pretend to be a kid actually sounds kind of legitimately awesome
Mark fixed the plot right there!
See Frédéric Bourdin...
I think there’s a terrible film where a guy pretends to be a baby buts he’s actually a dwarf and he’s trying to rob the family. Although that may have just been a fever dream because I don’t remember the name of it
Little man
I think the wayans got their inspiration for “little man” from that bugs bunny episode.
At least the poster isn’t misleading like 90 percent of these other movies
True!
@@FanboyFlicks lol
You totally fixed the movie ;)
I love Clifford. It's been a while, time for a rewatch.
need a reworked version of this movie where uncle martin beats cliff to death with a rolled up newspaper
Or pushes his head into the cereal bowl until the bubbles stop
@@FanboyFlicks Cherry on top...it goes to trial...martin presents video evidence of cliff and it becomes justified. :D kick in one of those 80/90's end scenes where the crowed cheers and everyone lifts him in the air and it freeze frames...haha
Oh that one i would watch!
As a kid I always thought Charles Grodin and Steve Martin were the same person.
That's funny. I always though Martin Short and Arnold Schwarzenegger were the same person.
I always thought Martin short was Steven Martin and Steve Martin was Martin short.
I thought he was Phil Hartman
Am I me? Or am I you?
I love this movie. Can't explain why but I can't stop laughing when I watch it. The part where he tries to get him to "act like a human boy" gets me everytime. 🤣😂
Martin Short is too good for me not to enjoy bits like that, he's just so funny
This is a treasure from my childhood
Idc wut anyone says. Its a great movie from a bygone era. You know. An era when they made movies to make you laugh and not lecture you.
You're all REALLY creepy.
Martin Short is unsettling, creepy, v weird, & comes across like he's a homosexual serial killer in any interview I've ever seen him in.
Objectively speaking, it is a bizarre and terrible film. Roger Ebert's review of it is spot on. But... I find it hilarious. It is one of my guilty pleasures!
"I've never seen a movie where a 40 year old is playing a 10 year old."
Umm Jack with Robin Williams (RIP)
Yeah but the difference is that was actually part of the story
Robin Williams played a kid with some rare accelerated growth syndrome. Martin Short was suppose to be a regular kid.
@@deletedwaffles yeah I guess I just misunderstood the concept. I was thinking that Martin Short was playing a 40 year old man who thought he was a 10 year old.
Keanu reeves in every movie
@@mikailstacy8245 lol yeah go tell John Wick that.
I have fond memories of watching Clifford when I was young.
“It’s like a sweater up there.” 🤣 Best joke
xD i need to use that line sometime
It’s true, I really should clean it
thats what she said
I chuckled at that too, then I looked at my own fan and realised I to had a fan with its winter attire on.
It says your comment was posted two days ago. The video was posted eight hours ago... 😶 are you from the past?
When this movie came out I was in my 20's studying Urban Planning and I had an annoying ten year old nephew who loved this movie and he made me watch it several times. I kept thinking this movie was the story of my nephew and me.
You ' had ' a nephew? I mean, what did you do to him?
@Alex John, I’m pretty sure he left him at Dino world 😉
Oh no there is probably a concrete pillar filled with nephew in a city somewhere
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid. Watching it as an adult I'm still laughing but it's so absurd I don't see how anyone without a nostalgic connection to it would enjoy it.
I watched it recently and I totally felt the same thing. However my gf was with me at the time and she laughed abit so theres hope
Same. Me and my brothers watched this so many times together. still is a treat.
Same. I tried to show to others and they look at me like I'm mad. My family and I quote it constantly.
I definitely remember watching it on TNT or TBS back in the day.
It's great that I'm still finding old episodes that I haven't seen yet.
John Ford's The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance had John Wayne and Jimmy Stewart, both in their 50's, playing 20 year olds. And also had a 50 year old playing a teenager.
Me: *takes note*
Seriously I want to watch that now, just because it’s been a while since I’ve seen a good western
I was thinking how many "teenage movies" of the 50's starred 25-30 year olds, and that was without the obviously absurd self-aware conceit that CLIFFORD comes on screen with.
Surf Ninjas had Rob Schneider who was 30 playing a 15 year old. 🤷🏻♂️
Just started my lunch break at work and was thinking "damn today has been shit." Saw a new Mark video and it changed my mood. Love your channel man, thanks for giving us content so often nowadays!
Fanboy Flicks Extra...courtesy of Covid-19.
Oh man. I *am* one of the people who grew up loving this movie.
Glad there are a few you enjoyed it (maybe more than a few?). People are way too literal these days and complain about the lack of logic when the whole thing is meant to be taken with a huge grain of salt. Crazy salt at that...whatever the heck crazy salt is! (This review struck me as far more of a downer than any movie could ever hope to be. Very sour.)
Me too! I still say “mission accomplished old friend” and love the weird looks I get!
Naw I loved it and watched it over and over again and I never questioned that the main character was a kid.
Yes I actually like this movie and watched it several times as a kid
Nice review. I'd say this film falls right under "Howard the Duck" or "Drop Dead Fred" category. Their weirdness is so out there it's almost inevitable they're gonna strike a chord with some people. And usually you either love or hate these kinds of movies, there's just no in-between. But they will always find an audience.
So when I was a kid I LOVED drop dead Fred. Like I watched it all the time. Recently I looked it up online and saw that it was pretty much universally hated by critics and I choose not to watch it again out of the fear that I might hate it as an adult
@@FanboyFlicks It's a fact of life - many childhood memories will be ruined once you revisit them in adulthood!
@@FanboyFlicks I liked Drop Dead Fred, as well! lol. I am really hoping you may someday watch Clifford again thru the lens it was intended, and actually enjoy it; just to be a silly over-the-top comedy and performance from Short. Just how you wanted to know how Clifford got so many guests to the house for the party shows you were taking it too seriously, which it wasn't intended. It was never intended to be logical. :)
i love movies like this since even though they're not good movies they're still entertaining because they're so weird and creative. I'll take a strange but bad cult film that at least tries something new and experimental over a bland AAA title that just remade the same plot for the 10th time this year.
@@FanboyFlicks I have the same issue with 3 Ninjas. Watched it repeatedly as a kid, terrified to watch as an adult. Ideal to just leave the good memories intact.
"I just hate communicating" Well, thankfully you love bad movies, Mark!
Is that Neil Breen as an emoji?
Dude, how did you get the Neil Breen face??
@@TheAlan136 he’s probably a patron to the channel so he gets the emoji lol how about the fact that his comment says 3 days ago but this video was uploaded 7hrs ago. Tripper lol
@@kh22912 lol pretty cool huh.
@@DonRoyalX patrons probably get to see the videos early too
I loved this movie as a kid. Just because of the dinosaurs. I always thought it was about a very, very childish man. I had no idea till today that he's actually supposed to be a child...
Same!!!! 🤣 Although I loved it for Martin 😂🥰
I'm glad I'm not the only one.
was he supposed to be a child, like played straight and they couldn't find anyone age-appropriate or was it kind of a "ha-ha middle-aged guy playing a child so funny" role? I'm so confused
@@washedblue The second. It was a part of the bit of it. There was also a lot of humor that a child actor would never have really pulled off and that's...kind of a part of why its funny (if you do find it funny) Edit: After looking thru the comments, I realize that this may not be a universal opinion lol. To ME I never felt like they were playing it straight even as a kid. I knew he was supposed to be a kid but that I was supposed to enjoy and laugh at the idea of him being played by an adult
I thought this too. He was just a weird guy acting like a kid
I know it's messed up, but I love this film. I'm in the cult.
Same here.
I've seen it like 10 times over the years and it's a classic. One of my fave movies from when I was a kid, the fact that martin short was obviously 40 years old playing a kid and they never acknowledged it made it so much funnier.
Grew up watching this movie as a kid, good times...
Mark: "I dont think I've ever seen a movie that tried to pass off a forty year old man as a ten year old boy"
Me: "Then you've never seen the 2002 Pinocchio movie starring Roberto Benigni"
I remember renting this movie as a kid, it was so weird yet funny how much Clifford was hated. I never forget Stefen the Dinosaur.
As always, good episode Mark! I am still waiting for "Jupiter Ascending".
I remember this movie! My brother used to watch it and a friend of mine.
Agreed, though. "What About Bob?" is such a good comedy. Really underrated and too little brought up. I feel the same way about "Dutch".
Dutch, absolutely.
I'm gonna be serious, I know this movie since I was a little kid and I love it. If you really don't focus on the actual age of Martin Short or perhaps even be able to forget it, it's really a funny and entertaining film
And What about Bob is one of my favorite films ever
Mark. I am part of that Cult. I love this movie. I view it as if it was a SNL skit turned into a movie and then it is freaking hilarious. Better yet, it is a stranger version of MAD TV Stuart.
StuuuAAAAAART!
your sick
'look what i can do" proceeds to leap in a pathetic fashion......
OK the Stuart thing... You get it, because he is huge. He is over 6 feet tall, obviously a grown man. That's part of the joke. I think what makes this movie so bad is the fact that they're really trying to pretend he is 10. But then, as Mark pointed out, he somehow knows how to throw a party with 100 teens and adults out of nowhere... So it's like they're confused on what age they want us to believe he is. They would never have Stuart do that because he is supposed to be just an overgrown toddler, lol.
well if you like 40 year old people playing children you should check out CHAD also played by an SNL character Chad is a freshmen in highschool played by a 40 year old female and no Chad is not trans. N no it is also not good.
This was a hilarious movie. Me and my sister both loved this movie growing up. We always reference it once in a while
I think that maybe a writer for the show "Mad TV" liked this movie a lot.
Steward.... XD
then he said "look what I can do!"
Well. Mad TV was hysterical.
@@CapucineNighly Stewart.
I love Charles Grodin, he was great in "Midnight Run"
He was indeed.
His co-workers including Conan O'Brien said that he was comedic genius. A really funny man.
He was in the King Kong re make.....
He had a terrific little part on Louis CK's show Louie before he passed away... ruclips.net/video/VFS_a34QzQc/видео.html
His performance in The Great Muppet Caper is breathtaking.
My dad showed me this movie when I was a kid and I still love it.
The faces the actors do MAKE the movie😂
Mark... You are the first person I considered paying patron for. I am extremely broke, on food stamps, so I can't, but st least I am watching your videos on repeat, letting tun the ads as I often out your vids in the background when I sleep.
Among my friends, this movie was up there with Home Alone. I honestly thought everyone else liked it too, and as I got older, I realized that not only did far less people even know about this movie than I thought, but most people actively hated it.
My wife and I just watched “What About Bob?” - It’s been a favorite of mine since it came out
Mark always drops a vid right when I need it.
This movie falls into my "comfort movies" list from the 80s/90s. Things like Clue, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, The Birdcage, 9 to 5, Three Amigos etc. They always give me the vibe of summer family vacations for some reason. As a kid, I wanted to ride that Dinosaur World coaster so bad.
Also, if I had to pick one person for some weird scenario like...to go up on a stage alone with no planned material, props...and just be straight up funny... it's Martin Short. Dude is just so good at being naturally funny.
You say this movie isn't good.
But I can't stop laughing.
That scene where he is telling him to look like a human boy gets me everytime...
And speaking as an ex college age partier, if you throw a free party in a house like that...You don't have to spread the word, that shit will be packed.
When Mark asked how Clifford got so many guests to the party, or how Clifford blew up his uncle's presentation, it shows Mark was taking the film too seriously, as this film was never intended to be plausible or logical; it's just supposed to be a fun, silly, over-the-top movie led by Short's hilarious performance. If Mark rewatched this film that way, i think he may actually enjoy it. *Also, Grodin was great in this role, as well. :)
Martin Short is a funny looking dude and his expressions go a long way in making me laugh, but man, these early 90's comedies like this and Problem Child (a movie I suspect you will get to Mark) were so distinctly obnoxious.
As an Adult I see Problem Child and like *"Whoa, This is what I was into?"* Not a bad movie at all.. it is just mean spirited as hell.. My Mother use to love this movie.. She still does.. 😂
Oh I wanna see him do Problem Child now
my man... "look at me like a human boy"... is one of the funniest bits in cinema history.
I hoped you was going to suggest "What About Bob?" before you actually did. I love it! Richard Dreyfus played his character so believably and sympathetically in such a brilliant way that I didn't understand as a kid, but now I completely understand how he was slowly driven insane. All the little twitches he would do and his facial expressions were hilarious! Such an underrated gem!
Clifford is funny. The way some adults treat children like premeditated thinking adults when they behave like kids is the underlying message of the dark comedy
"I dont think i ever seen a movie that tried to pass off a 40 year old man as a 10 year old boy" Just check Roberto Benigni as Pinnochio.
Keanu reeves in every movie
Robin Williams in Jack.
Basically every Adam Sandler movie.
Me, everytime, everywhere... but not in a "Cuties fan" way 🤢...
The whole "can you just act like a normal human being?" part makes the movie worth it to me.
Poor Charles Grodin, no luck with nephews and dogs.
I've figured it out: your voice and delivery are the love child of Jerry Seinfeld and H. Jon Benjamin. Love the channel, keep up the good work!
Take note at how dedicated they were to making Uncle Martin that tall compared to Clifford. In reality the actors are about 3inches apart
Good to know.
This was one of my favorite movies as a kid! I'm stoked.
Ah I think he just wrote the script to Adam Sandler’s next movie
With Robert DeNiro as the "kid"?! Would blow Al "Dunkaccino" Pacino out of the water! Box Office Gold!
Shhhh, Sandler will hear you guys
That shot of him sleeping has never left me for some reason
This actually sounds pretty funny in a bizarre way. Now I want to see it
I've seen this movie so many times and I still love it!!
I love Clifford!! I think its one of those polarizing dark comedy movies where either it’s for you or it’s not for you. However, I think it’s biggest problem is that there are no likable characters to root for.
I always rooted for the uncle!! 😂😂
That shot of Matin Short on the cover of the VHS is a thing nightmares are made and perfectly encapsulates what this movie is and the carnival crazy house you're about to experience.
I remember watching this movie as a kid and being so confused by Martin Short playing a kid that was my age.
I had never heard of this movie before and now, thanks to you, I will never be able to forget it. Thanks for that!
I had a crush on Mary Steenburgen ever since Back to the Future part 3
For sure one of the first crushes
I agree What About Bob? is a masterpiece and one of my top five favorites. In a way Clifford is similar except Clifford is intentional in the damage he does to the uncle he drives nuts whereas Bob was a lot more innocent. What About Bob? is definitely a better film but I still like Clifford. Short and Grodin had great chemistry and it does have a few laugh out loud moments.
i always marvel at charles grodin getting acting work in comedy movies. i guess he is the ultimate straight man curmudgeon, never having done or said anything funny, or even cracked a smile.
I love when Mark has his flashback to grade or high school. That recorder sound use to be the worst!
I say, "Any luck with that chocolate. Any. Luck. With. That Chocolate." Randomly at least twice a year.
My friends and I still yell “GET ME THE BUNNY”
I agree, the plot of having an adult pretending to be a kid to help out a mate, could be very funny.
One of my fav movies as a kid! LMAO
i freaking loved this movie as a kid. watched it at least 15 times.
Gonna say, I think it was just a movie that you HAD to be there. Seeing this at 15. Was a different time and era in 1994.
I know, right? I actually saw this movie when I was 14 in theaters and I loved it.
Yes, we weren't living under a system which censored our expression, told us to stay at home and said we must believe anything the government says.
I was 5 in 1994 and I loved it back then. I haven’t seen it in years
when someone says "you had to be there" that usually means it was terrible
@@GabrielAlcala956 Not always though. I'd take the mid nineties over the crap going on right now anytime.
Omg!!! Yes I’ve wanted you to review this for as long as I’ve been subscribed!!!
I remember getting this from blockbuster on VHS way back when I was a kid I was hoping it had a big red dog in it....it doesn't have a big red dog in it
Hey, I’ve been as much of a fan as I am of anything for several years. The past year or so is when I started binging. AND tonight I’ve finally subscribed. I’m hella picky about my subscriptions. You consistently deliver. Great content. Interesting choices. I remember this movie and I’m about to see it not just through my adult eyes, but also with your commentary and editing. New cocktail called "The K-9"
(a fifth of Beethoven with a splash of Clifford)
Mark helping us survive 20-21, only youtuber I'd give patron to. Love your channel best videos to watch when I've had a horrible day at work.
"what about bob?" is a classic
I went to school in the midwest and I totally remember music class having us to purchase recorders to play.
I sure Charles Grodin would rather deal with Beethoven over Clifford.
I love this movie because it's so weird. I actually find it funny. The whole point was for Martin Short to play as a ten year old.. My favorite part is the look at me normally scene. 😂
A comedy between Kevin James and Kevin Hart?, sign me in!
Also, take for example the mexican comedy tv series "El Chavo del 8", Roberto Gomez was 40 at the time and he portrayed the main character of an 8 year old boy...
Oh my God, CLIFFORD! I haven't watched the video yet, I just got excited.
What About Bob is one of my favorites comedies
SO impressed you recognize What About Bob? as must see movie. The movie is massively underrated because it was better than the trend at that that year. Movies like City Slickers and Hot Shots (still great movies) outshone movies like WAB and Soap Dish. Good callback Mark.
RiP Charles Grodin who passed away today.
I used to love this movie as a kid, it's like you've unlocked a buried memory for me 😂
7:40 I would love to see that movie I don’t care how bad it is
Mark’s plot actually makes sense, I agree we need that movie!
Your idea having Martin Short play a 10 year old for his buddy would have been so much better.
Bill Murray: I'll be quiet. Kid: And I'll be Peace.
Another classic
The "I'm sailing" scene in What About Bob? Is still one of my favorite scenes in a comedy!
A great odd couple action move is Tango and cash
Hey Mark took me up on my suggestion...love it!
If Clifford was played by an actual kid you would feel guilty for wanting to punch him
After watching your review the first time, and added this movie to my collection. I enjoy it so much, especially after you mentioning that the way it’s portrayed is what makes it work lol
What about Bob is also hilarious during the pandemic since now he seems normal with being a clean freak
