    In this scene Cora is not the lady of the house she's a proud mother, and that's beautiful

    • @tobynsaunders
      @tobynsaunders 2 года назад +14

      She was also a dim-witted mother in this case. I mean, she was speaking at a relatively normal volume within earshot while standing in full view while "hiding" behind a translucent piece of glass, and then assuming that her daughter was too stupid to seeing standing there having a conversation with Carson and then walking down the hallway. Cora was going to lie about being surprised, and so are we to assume that Sybil was going to lie about not seeing her mother?

O'Brien got an offer from Lady Flintshire to join her in India as her lady's maid. O'Brien has always expressed an interest in seeing the world and she writes in the note she leaves that she simply couldn't pass up the chance. Each of them sisters had their own qualities, as well as flaws. As lovable and sweet as Sybil was, she was also a daydreamer and a quixotic idealist. Her utopian view of the future would have embittered and disappointed her in the long run. Both Mary and Edith were much more pragmatic women than Sybil, and pragmatism is something I value very much.

    It's so weird how Isobel's comment "What a terrible thing," could be taken as sarcasm now, but in this it sounds sincere. No judgments, language naturally changes over time, just found it interesting.

    This is one of my all time favorite downton scenes. The pride on cora's face is shining. The interaction between sybill and daisy is awesome. I miss this show. Ive watched it end to end at least three or four times. I think its one of the best shows ever on tv. Im no expert or critic but the writing was top notch. The depth of each character, the character development over the years, so good. My wish is another season. I doubt it will happen but i can hope. I am in new york. Last year i went to a downton abby trivia night. First prize was tickets to a Giants game which i wanted really bad. Well, i didnt win but i got third out of a whole room of people. I even surprised myself. Happy Holidays everyone. Stay safe. Peace to all!!

      You're not alone. :) I also can't crack an egg against a bowl without shells flying every which way. I have to knock it in half over the bowl with a knife and I still end up with bits of shell in the egg. As for making a cake, that's a big no too. :)
