"Recorded from the parking lot of Sendai Shinko, a nationally famous surf spot. Roads were cut off by the tsunami, and people in the parking lot were stranded. There were no waves that day, so there was likely only one surfer. There were approximately 20 people nearby, including security guards, truck drivers, and two policemen who were issuing warnings about the approaching tsunami."
    Recordings from March 11 to 16, 2011.
    Duration: 19:36
    Format: SD Video
    Location: Nakano, Miyagino-ku. Sendai.

Notice that snow was falling as the water was coming ashore and destroying so much, just to make the situation even more difficult and dangerous. Even if you survived the water and being caught in debris, you could still die of cold before you could be rescued.

I hope all those people survived who were standing so close to the ocean at the beginning of the video. Blessings to all Japan’s people for continued healing.👌🥰🙏

They did. Or their phone would have been swept away and we wouldn't be able to watch this

They were high up and you can see the land goes up into a hill where they are. They were safe there.

A pesar de los años, aún me conmuevo al ver por lo que tuvieron que pasar y la tremenda destrucción que dejó el terremoto y posterior tsunami. Grande el pueblo de Japón. Abrazos desde Chile 🇨🇱

The destruction is literally everywhere one looks!
The devastation to the entire community is of an incomprehensible order of magnitude!
Every building, vehicle, areas of wreckage and bodies of water needs to be searched for victims that were unable to escape to safety.
This lengthy, hazardous and psychologically damaging course of action is essential and will probably be carried out by the fire crews and military personnel.
Thank you for sharing this previously unseen video.

I can't imagine having to go gather the bodies. I know it's their job, but it must have been horrible.

@@melodiefrances3898 The most bizarre sight that I saw concerning searching for Tsunami victims involved a team of Search & Rescue Divers from the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF) who were searching the harbour sea floor, checking sunken vehicles, beneath wreckage, etc.
They came across a house sunk to the seabed, and they entered a a pair, with a Safety Diver remaining outside.
They swam into a modern Japanese kitchen, with rice cooker bowls, cups and microwave oven.
The surreal sight of the two Divers swimming into the domestic setting in a house on the seabed of the harbour was something that I will never forget and it emphasised the individual horrors of this horrific event.
I felt deeply sad for these young men, called upon to search sunken vehicles and buildings for the remains of their fellow countrymen and women.

Where did they haul all that wreckage? What a huge job. So sad for this beautiful country.

I feel it entirely appropriate to pay tribute to the Japanese people. The filming shows that the tsunami has only just happened - you can see the seaweed on the armco is still damp! ... and yet the JDF, and probably civilians too, have managed to clear most of the major roads, at least enough so 4x4s can pass. There are no mobs of screaming survivors ranting at the authorities to 'do more to help' - if this were the US there would be mobs of looters at every smashed car and shop window grabbing anything not bolted down. The Japanese just quietly shuffle from place to place trying to take it all in.
Very much as I have heard the aftermath of Hiroshima & Nagasaki described.
    Water and fire. Horrendous.
