I love this, so informative, especially your mounting advice because I bought plates which were 2 sizes short according to the shop (I ignored their advice lel) and it turns out they are the perfect length for how I skate :) just like this build. I built my first ever pair of skates doing alu-insoles on trainers and didn't know about this whole foot-ball shoe thing. These are pretty much the same as expensive roller-derby/jam boots but at a ridiculous fraction of the cost! Here in the UK we cant buy jackson/VNLA boots very easily but used adidas cleats are everywhere (I found one on the street last night - true story) Can't wait to remount my plates on a pair of these! Tip by the way for getting the drill to go in straight - first use a counter-sink drillbit to create little craters before going in with the normal drill-bit! (countersink bits are pointy at the tip and easier to hold in place)
Suggestion: If you have the chance to take those to a shoemaker and have them replace the sole for good sturdy leather, then you'll be set to go because the sole will be able to take the heat and not fall apart. Then you just get nice comfy insoles. I've been skating since I was 2 years old and I've always had the skates made by a shoemaker. The latest ones look like those mesh sneakers but they are built very well and they have lasted for the last 10 years so far. Asking for some help from a shoemaker could do wonders (you know, like a regular cobbler). Enjoy your skates! I thought this was a wonderful idea.
I wonder how carbon fiber soled cycling shoes would work out. May try it. Thank you for the informative videos! Been binge-watching them like crazy. :)
Thank you! Good question, I don't know how bike shows would work out, I haven't heard of that before (just soccer and rugby). Let me know how it works out, if you try it!
This is a great example of the process. One word of caution, if you do cut the prongs off the t-nuts be very careful of holding them when using the drill. If the nut starts to spin it can cut your thumb up pretty bad and make you bleed all over your brand new magnesium avenger plates
They look super dope. I recently bought some second hand boardwalks and even though the Rock plates are pretty strong I wanna upgrade them to some avantis for a park set-up. Gonna give the T-nut mount configuration a try.
please post back to lmk what you think, and tag me if you post on insta! I still wouldn't use them in the skatepark but I love them for cruising around. Sometimes I think I rag too much on Vans skates bc i have friends who love them, but I just can't...
@@rollerskaterevival8484 Will do! Searching for shoes on ebay and craiglist;) Think I picked really spongy skate shoes to try out aluminum soles and plates with. This option looks much better. Will post when I set up.
I think you *can* but I'm sure it will break before too long, and if my experience is any indicator it will be very annoying to cut because thin aluminum shakes like crazy. If I were you I'd try to get some 2mm
You are such a smart and creative person! Love your work!
Thank you!

That is a very specific warning which makes me think it is not hypothetical 😱 I am so sorry and hope you are well healed!
@@rollerskaterevival8484 it happened long before your video came out and back when I was first experimenting with t-nuts for mounts, but thanks!

yay! If you post in Insta tag me so I can see
I love your videos so much
Thank you so much!
Thanks for this video. Tried some Vans "like" shoes for skates and didn't feel too supported. Soccer shoes look like a great option. Will try!

Nicely done.
Thank you so much!
Those are called cleats on the bottom of shoe.
Do the studs on the bottom not screw out.
They used to be on a thread.
It depends on the shoe. Some are threaded, but these ones weren’t
Hi, I'm planning to put some sneakers on a spare pair of plates - it's my first build, do you think I can cut the insoles from a 1mm aluminium sheet?

@@rollerskaterevival8484 cool, thanks
