    Also known as an art-line or a-line, an arterial line is a thin catheter that is inserted into an artery. It is most commonly used to monitor blood pressure directly and accurately, as with close and accurate titration of blood pressure medications. It is also used to obtain samples for arterial blood gas analysis (ABG’s) and is convenient when frequent blood samples are needed so the patient does not have to be stuck multiple times.

    Comparing the cuff pressure to the arterial line pressure will not provide any information about the accuracy of the arterial line pressure reading. While the cuff measures flow, the arterial line measures pressure. The differences in readings may be more disparate in states of shock.

    You must tell anyone in surgery that you're taking blood gases. You neglected to mention using an alcohol wipe on the port.

    WOULD YOU PUT A BLOOD PRESSURE CUFF FOR NON-INVASIVE MONITORING TO THE SAME SITE OF ARTERIAL LINE?

    • @jordancatherine
      @jordancatherine 5 лет назад

      I've seen them on the opposite arm or around the leg.

    • @blainew1035
      @blainew1035 5 лет назад +1

      No, this would be counterproductive because the cuff would occlude the artery above the arterial line catheter, essentially taking away the pressure for its reading. It's best to use the opposite arm or one of the legs.
