- Now that Sonic Adventure 2 HD came out on PSN, I think it's time to put this up. After getting all 180 Emblems in any version of SA2, you unlock a 3D version of Green Hill Zone. Honestly, the level looks pretty horrid even for its time. As I said in my original GHZ video (here: • Sonic Adventure 2 - Gr... ), it looks as if they didn't put effort into it. It looks almost like a crappy debug stage. But getting this felt nice after putting hours into the game. Added a "casual" run at the end because many people complained in my old video that they wanted to hear the stage music more.
Anyway, A-ranking this is easy. Just basically kill all the enemies you come across while snagging the Invincibility capsules. A-Ranking this does nothing, this is just a small bonus stage with no missions or anything. It doesn't even keep track if you A-rank it like the others. Unlocking this stage is just for bragging rights really.
What do you need to do to get all the Emblems? You need to A-Rank every stage and all their missions (each stage has 5 missions). You also need to win all the Chao races (requires you to raise a Chao that can do Hero and Chao races), win all Chao Karate difficulties, beat Boss mode on all 3 options, and beat Kart Racing on all 3 options. What really makes it time consuming is Chao raising.
Lastly, a lot of people wonder about the differences in this game from the Dreamcast & Gamecube versions. This one is essentially the same exact game as the Gamecube port. They didn't really add content or fix anything as of right now. They did put all the gameplay scenes in HD, though. Some of the cutscenes are not in HD, though, for some reason. They make you pay for DLC to get 2 player stuff & Chao Karate, which you'll need to buy if you want to 100% the game. It's not too bad, because it means the game is still $13 total, which is still pretty cheap. They also added Scoreboard rankings for your Mission 1 scores for every level. They also didn't fix the voice problem with music in cutscenes (music is still too loud in cutscenes).
For Chao stuff, they didn't fix the infinite drive glitch (thank god!), so you can save some time with Chao raising. They unfortunately did not give you an alternative to the old Gameboy Advance transfers to make Chao Raising easier and such. The Gameboy thing in Chao Gardens now only let you say Goodbye to Chao.
That's about it I believe. Is it worth it getting this if you already own it? I still say yes. I also think the PS3 controller generally works pretty well with the game. The analog stick being so sensitive makes some things a little tricky, but easy to adapt to still.

i like how the layout of the level is basically green hill zone from the original game in a 3d perspective
I like that too, but I feel like it really limited them... Some things about this level work way better in 2d than 3d
right. It also doesn't help when sonic advance 1 and 2 only had some of the momentum based concepts of the classics, which results in an improper translation

So many years me and my sister playing this game as kids and we never knew this even existed until I heard about it today and had to check it out. Amazing. You won't find secrets like these in modern games that's for sure.

Has someone ever wondered how creepy is green hill zone stage in the world of SA2?? I mean, you are in the real world with animals, people, technology, wutever, but then you get to a secret area, a secret island where the background just looks 16 bit, a lot of water falls and of course, a weird looking sea, grass tress and things... Finally, the island is only habited by robots, robots with the shape of animals, what the hell is that place?! Consider you are still in the realworld along with people, cars, and stuff.
I always liked the idea of Green HIll Zone in the world of SA2. I wished they would remake the entire game of Sonic the Hedgehog 2, 3 & Knuckles in the "world of SA2" with its mechanics and stuff. I think it would be a ton of fun! Hydrocity Act 2 would be so hype!! * - *

this is technically green hill zone for the dreamcast era. If sega would have done a dreamcast era version of each level in sonic generations, they should have based it off this level.

This piece of crap made me cry when I first got all the 180 emblems on my old Dreamcast. The reward surelly was worth every hour spent.

And no, Lost World didn't have it. Windy Hill Zone and Green Hill Zone are two separate things. And like I said, Green Hill Zone is basically Sonic's homeland. The Mushroom Kingdom of the Sonic series.
They put more effort into making the 2D level design work in 3D than the visual elements. As a bonus, I don't think it's a problem. The layout is fun too.
It's definitely one of the best Sonic levels of all time. I'd say Generations is better designed overall concerning its levels but this and City Escape are awesome.

I think it's such a neat reward for collecting all 180 emblems. I actually first heard about this stage in a Green Hill Zone comparison video.

People either treat Sonic Adventure 2 like it's the best game ever or the worst game ever. I don't think that it's either.
The game has some notable flaws, bugs, and bad design choices, and they especially become more prominent with age. The camera is iffy, the treasure hunting stages are a little unintuitive, the mech stages are slow and stiff, and sometimes the physics just don't work like you think they would, resulting in death when it otherwise shouldn't.
But it also not so bad to say that it's not worth playing or has no redeemable qualities. (Most of) the gameplay is actually quite fun just in how you move around and attack enemies and there's a lot of variety within the game and secrets and collectibles to add a lot of replay value. The music is great and the story is engrossing in all it's cheesy glory, as well as the Chao Garden which is fun for a more laid-back experience.

VideoTape It becomes more prominent with age relevant to more modern ideas of game design. While the game has the same flaws as it always had, they're more noticable now because other games in recent times have become much more conscious to avoid these flaws.

+ZeroJanitor I think the camera is okay. Everygame has flaws that over the time stop becoming standard. But that doesn't interfere with the experience. I do agree on the design choices. Mech stages are ok and fast, but very stiff. The treasure hunting stages are wonderfully big but the radar sucks all the fun out of it. So far I haven't had trouble with the physics.
Sonic's level design is also not as good as SA1's. They're fun but they get a little repetitive.

I love how this is an exact 3D replica of Green Hill from Sonic 1. I remember when I saw this back in the day, I always wanted them to do other 2D stages in 3D or maybe full Sonic 1, CD, 2, and 3&K 3D remakes. (in the adventure style that is)
I really like how they changed most of the sound effects to the Genesis ones just for this level.
It still blows my mind that this stage exist! I love it and wish I knew this stage when I was a kid 20 years ago!

+Micah Buzan LOL, you're not the only one who didn't know about that stage ! 4 or 5 years ago, one of my friend came to my house while i happen to be playing the Green hill Zone stage on SA2B and he thought it was a mod or something XD ! I told him no this is real, when you have all 180 emblems and A ranks with every character, you unlock it. I found that when i was 12 or something my friend still jokes from time to time about it, saying i'm the only one in the world who found that stage LOL !

I think the problem with it is that, for completing the game, you expect more. For just 1 nostalgia pandering level, completing all the emblem missions, getting all A ranks, completing the chao stuff. It just ain't worth it.

Most people don't have the patience to get all the emblems and unlock this single stage. And trust me, it's very hard.
So unless you wanna brag about people not knowing that Sa2 Green Hill exists or their problems with unlocking it, you might as well shut the fuck up, because saying "you suk xddd" only makes it seem like you have the IQ equal to a 5 yr old.

Too bad they scrapped the two-player Super Sonic/Shadow reward for getting an A rank in this stage.

I was so mind blown when i discovered this years back. I was also confused and upset during those years because this is exactly what I expected and wanted in a new age sonic game at the time. I still wish sonic 1-3 had a total remake in this exact format.

oh my, i haven't realized how diffucult it was to get 180 emblems until i read many had commented they didn't make it. i got the 180 but it was on the dreamcast era and i had no life at that moment and i spent many months playing this and getting the emblems.
I never had the patience to get all the emblems to unlock this, but now that I'm older I wish I did
It's kinda funny how the sound effect for collecting rings stayed the same throughout the years.
I only just recently discovered this existed thanks to Nathaniel Bandy. This level is so cool
SA2 is a good example of how Green Hill should be implemented Modern Sonic games.
And now I have to complete Sonic Adventure 2 so I can play this. I could never get past those damn treasure hunting levels.

i know the reason for this was to celebrate sonic's 10th anniversary at the time, but its kind of a missed opportunity to include all of the 6 levels from the game, and its even more weird that they didn't because there are 6 playable characters. Kind of a missed opportunity imo

I kinda wish they went back to this type of gameplay for modern sonic. No "Boost to win", no 2D sections, none of that. Just 3D action 24/7. Imagine if they did a new SA game, but only focusing on Sonic. That's what I want to see. Someone make that happen, please... Also maybe a 3D remake of Sonic 1, 2 and 3. This level proves the level design can work in 3D.

Fun Fact: There was a feature where you would unlock Super Sonic and Super Shadow after beating Green Hill Zone with A Rank, but it was cut from the game.

Honestly this level is the best transition from 2d to 3d Sonic. If they made a whole game based off this Adventure level design, 3D Sonic wouldn't have had a rough time.

What I think Sega should do is to give Tails another game, or at least Knuckles who have been in the series since the first three games. I would appreciate if they make another game about Tails or Knuckles, It always been about Sonic, Sonic and Shadow, and Shadow has his own game after he was introduced in Sonic Adventure 2 in 2001. Who thinks Tails or at least Knuckles get their own game like Shadow, Who wants know more about Knuckles and his people or How Tails became intelligent in Game form? Well, I do, Give me a thumbs up if you think there should be another game about Tails or Knuckles, The 3rd and 4th characters of Sonic the Hedgehog!!!

Also Knuckles Chaotix, Tails' Adventure, and Tails' skypatrol were earlier games that were made around the 1990s and since Sega went long ways from that point, They should make a official game for one of these two or some fan favorite of the series. (I highly doubt they will ever do this)
Make both those games, then make a *good Sonic game. Put them then together, and call it Sonic Adventure 3.

Sonic uses the emeralds to go into his Super form. Presumably Tails and Knuckles get their classic super forms as well, right? Nope. They just get shields. Apparently they don't get Super anymore. So nothing too special, but a subtle hint to show: Sega don't give a shit about anyone who isn't a masculine hedgehog. Or Shadow.

Yea that part is really glitchy and dumb. If you want to do what I did, just spam Light Dash and hold forward and you'll land safely. If you wanna get on the upper platforms I think you have to hold up during the Light Dash. But it's hard to judge where you'll land because of the shitty camera not changing.

When I heard Green Hill was in SA2, this is NOT what I expected.
Getting all the emblems was a pretty big challenge; I've player on my old file for 127 hours in 5 years. Anyway, by comparing this to your old video, the HD graphics went pretty well.
