    That's why it's always important to choose based on the type of driving you do most of the time. How many still have diesels and only ever drive them around town.

    My wife's best friend, has a Yaris Cross, and gets mad mpg. Brilliant little car.

    I have the Baleno 1.0 on a 16 plate.......I'm getting 58.5 mpg on rural b roads and A roads driving around 20 miles to work every day - on a motorway run at a steady 70 it's even better. Not the most fashionable car in the world, but I bought it for it's frugal running costs. I've had it for 2 yrs, and so far it's been utterly reliable. A little gem for what it does. steve

      Due to a change in work location it made sense to downsize. This Suzy is only £20 a yr road tax too.
      That Yaris is bloody amazing fuel economy though isn’t it.

    I drive a Ford Focus mk 2 1.6 TDCI (diesel) and it is ridiculously efficient at motorway speeds. I get 55-60mpg on my 8 mile each way commute in summer and 50-55 mpg in winter. However, if I am on a long motorway run I generally get 75mpg, allowing me to do over 700 miles on a 53 litre tank of diesel. Been driving my Dad's Yaris hybrid for commuting for the last week, and its economy is under 50mpg, but this is much better when being used around town.

    I got laughed at when i mentioned the fuel consumption to someone of the Yaris Hybrid 59.93mpg with 80mpg in town, there it is in black & white.

    Great video. I easily get 65 to 74 mpg on motorways and 80 to 90 city driving. I have a late 2012 1.8 Toyota Auris Hybrid. It's a fantastic car, and it has saved me 700 to 900 per year in fuel costs.

    My 2006 Prius does 60+mpg on average Motorway/town mixed, easily getting 60mpg on a long 200mile run and this is from an 18 year old car! Think i'll be keeping for awhile, not much progress in 20 years(!)

    Why aren't these newer car doing far better MPG?.....I just did a trip to to Paris and back and averaged 47MPG out of the 2.2 Diesel. I had over 50mpg out of our old Leon FR 170 on longer journeys. Thing's really don't seem to have moved forward in the last 15 years

    • @DefinitelyNotAGuru
      @DefinitelyNotAGuru  10 месяцев назад +1

      I think this video suggests the opposite, we’ve got a petrol car here than can do up to 100 mpg around town.

      @@DefinitelyNotAGuru yep,some good smaller cars around yes but the bigger motorway munches haven't improved much. Friends 12 plate 520D returns great mpg and the newer ones haven't improved.
      I would assume the emission will be playing a part, in the Agricultural sector you can easily get far superior fuel economy and massive increases in power at the same time when remapping machine's
