  • Note: We didn't release the joints for this truss because the purpose was to show you how to add load combinations and sections. If you require everything to be hinged at the joints you must release all moments.
    In this video we demonstrate how to have SAP2000 autoselect the optimal sections for your steel truss based on stress ratio, and how to input load combinations such as dead load and live load. Learn how to utilize SAP2000 as an engineering student using these tutorials to ensure 100% on assignments!

    Just a note: ensure before hitting the design button that the load combos that you are interested in evaluating are selected. Do this by selecting "select load combos" I the design menu and select the combinations you want. Sap2000 will usually select it's own combos based on the code you've chosen to analyze the truss with, you can remove these if you'd like as well in this menu.
    In this video, we evaluate this as a frame! In the next video, we'll release the joints and evaluate it as a truss. Head to the first video of our series if you're looking for the basics or are looking for the evaluation version! ruclips.net/video/BJ0aOUGNw5w/видео.html

    Hi, I really like your sap2000 videos and enjoy learning from it. it's really helpful for beginner like me. I have a request If u could make a video for frame in building, for instance lets just say, 4 story and 3 bays of steel building. For loading consider Dead load and live only. Thanks for above this video.

    Hi, thank you for the video. How can I make the model consistent with optimum section for a specific group

    Hi, thanks for this tutorial, and how to specify an uneven load to shell ?

    • @AFMathandEngineering

      thanks for the feedback! from memory, i believe theres an option to apply a non-uniform load on an area object in SAP2000. hope that helps :)

    Honestly Im still in my second year in civil, but I want to learn this program to check the answers on my tutorials

      Great Isabella! It's an awesome tool that I wish I knew how to use, especially in second year.

    Thanks for the video. Can you make similar for the Cold-Formed Steel trusses? Do You have any sources for the CFS connections as well?

      No problem, unfortunately I'm not a CFS engineer unfortunately, so my knowledge on the subject is pretty limited.

    Awesome Tutorial! I have one question.....Why did you not make moment releases at the Joints (Partial Fixity)? Trusses are in tension and compression. Please advise.

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  4 года назад

      Thanks! Not all trusses are complete pins at the joints in reality, you can see even in this non released truss there is very little moment into members. Also the question didn't state that we should assume pin connections so we didn't do it here.

    Hey, thanks for this tutorial. I have been trying to use this function in my project, the thing is, it finds the solution but very often goes over 1. So I have stress ratio of 1.05 on multiple occasions. Can I set somewhere that it has to be lower than 1?

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  6 лет назад +1

      Hey Kaja, thanks alot really glad you enjoyed it. That's strange, it shouldn't give you values of over a 1 stress ratio as it means the member is not adequate. Could it be that you haven't provided sap with enough selections in the auto select list and it has to choose a member that's inadequate? Try selecting larger sections and adding them to the auto select list and see if that helps!

    Great video. Just a correction on the live load pattern. The loadcase has to be changed to live as well. You left it at dead too.

      So what happens if you leave it as a dead load pattern for live load?

    when we run it and see stresses on the frame, it gives us a diagram of colours and numbers on the right corner. When i check the frames, most of the frames are red. Should i worry about the reds or just check the stress value? values are around "-140" on the red ones. i guess "-" means compression on the frames. and the units on the screen is N,mm,C. So should i understand that the stress on the frame is "-140N/mm2" and it is actually safe because the material i used was S355 steel. 355N/mm2 for yielding, 510N/mm2 for tensile strength.

    • @AFMathandEngineering
      @AFMathandEngineering  6 лет назад

      +theoregon Sapp does that sometimes with he colors, as long as the stress values are adequate you're good. The negative sign is sign convention?, compression and tension. If you're modelling a truss make sure to release the fixity of the joints!

      I didnt release all of the elements, only the braces i did. It's a Drilling Mast tower, so its around 30 meters height. I connected all the structural coloumns with continuous which are on the same grid z. they have to be connected rigid to eachother but the braces are released so far
