I do think you will be able to get a harvest every month in your basement in winter based on just how well those inoculating trays build up microbes in them over time (and how well blue seems to do in the winter down there) Great idea for harvesting those castings without having to pick out all the plastic shreds!! I think the new pup is part 1. Great Dane 2. Boxer 3. Lab 4. Pitbull....because what mix that size doesn't have bit of a lab or Pitbull!!! Excellent video Ann!!🪱🪱🪱
I never even thought about a boxer but he is so derpy. That fits with boxers.😃🪱👍🏼
@@PlantObsessed 😂
Boxer, lab, pit bull and German Shepherd is my guess for the dog breed. Love them all and I am sure you will love the dog no matter what breed it is ❤
He is an awesome dog. 🐾🙂🐾🐾👍🏼
You're super Ann. And smart! One of the best!
Wow, thank you!👍🏼😁🪱
Those are some really nice looking castings 👍🏻
After they dissolved for an hour almost all went through the screen except the plastic.😁👍🏼🪱
Brindle, Greyhound, Staffy and Lab
What type of brindle? This is the first time I have had a mix. I'm not schooled on all the breeds. 👍🏼😁🐾🐾
What a great way to make some worm tea 👍🇳🇿
Super fast for sure. 🪱👍🏼😁
I love the puppy quiz! I’m guessing Staffordshire, Lab and Great Dane ❤
He is so derpy I am also rooting for great Dane.
Nice video Ann! I would figure that the casting would slow a little in the winter but only by an additional 3-5 weeks. Biology and microbes in the tower should still help to pump out the castings. Pepper plants are probably very happy now.
All happy except the seeds you sent me. They are growing so slowly. I may get pods next year.🪱😁👍🏼🌶️
@@PlantObsessed wow that’s a bummer. I would say mine are close to 3.5-4 feet tall. Not as loaded as last year but still good.
Hi Ann, we shredded what I'm sure was an Amazon box with an Aladdin graphic on the side and picked hundreds of pieces of plastic out of the castings. So frustrating!! I've never seen an Amazon box coated like that (before or since). By the way, from my worm science videos, high microbial beddings definitely make worms bigger and cardboard makes them reproduce more!
~ Sandra
Wow I have not seen graphics on Amazon boxes either. That would have been very expensive to produce on scale. Sounds like it was some sort of heat applied sticker. So for high microbial you mean manure or other compost? 🪱😁👍🏼
@@PlantObsessed The research used aerated sewage sludge to grow the largest worms. I don't think any of us are going to go to that extent, but it's all about the microbes. You mentioned manure in the video, which I think is going to approximate those results as long as the animal is drug-free.
~ Sandra
@@NanasWorms in theory....organic means drug free and the feed stock was chemical free.
@@PlantObsessed Exactly!
Hi Ann, I've had to do this a few times to separate worms 🪱 from things I'm trying to get rid of. Good advice ❤
I hope your summer is going well ❤
❤Peggy❤
Great minds like alike 😁👍🏼🪱 The summer is going too fast for me.
I have two small indoor bins. One has very clumpy castings. I think it’s because I didn’t give them shredded cardboard for a while with the holes they would finish the existing cardboard and make sifting easier. Well, that backfired on me. I now added shredded cardboard in hopes it will loosen up the clumps. Live and learn.
Yes that is how I made my first batch of un siftable castings. I kept waiting for them to dry out and added coco coir. I think the concentration of the castings sometimes makes the food inedible. Good luck.🪱👍🏼😁
Where do you get your alfalfa?
I made worm burritos from kitchen scraps rolled in old homework, and froze them. Has been amazing for quick feeds on hot days, especially with a whole lotta life going on
Puppers is Boxer, pitbull (amstaff or american bully), GSD, and lab.
The alfalfa can be bought as powder or in pellets at the feed store or on Amazon. I have a link in the video description for the alfalfa powder I use. 😁👍🏼🪱
Hello. I have a question. Have you ever had a complete bin collapse? I moved my worms to a new bin last April. They were doing fine. Nothing changed in the way I worked the bin - same food, same methods etc. and then starting two weeks ago I saw a rapid decline and now I don't see a single worm. I'm curious as to what might have happened. Any ideas? Thanks!
No I haven't. I had a bin of African Nightcrawlers die due to cold weather. AV had that happen a few times. He never knew why. Might have been a virus or something sprayed on the newspaper he used for bedding. The cocoons are likely still alive so there is hope.🤗👍🏼🪱
I have 2 dogs, he will be your best friend, my guess is he is lab, boxer, American Stafford. X-large shirt
Still waiting for the results 👍🏼🪱😃
Do bigger worm bins grow bigger/longer worms?
Not really in my experience. My big bins worms are pretty small.😃🪱👍🏼
No. It’s about what you feed them.
@@IndigoRiverTinyHomes what do you feed them to get them bigger?
Free t-shirt, that's in my budget! How can you take a guess w/o a pic of the pup!?
Go to my community page and have a look.🪱😁👍🏼🐾🐾
@@PlantObsessed I did. saw your dog. I can't even make a guess with my grey matter! ha! Looks like it has Rottweiler in it. Damn, there goes my t-shirt! Have a nice day Ann.
😀
@@ClickinChicken 3 more ideas and you are in the running. Not too many people made it to the end of the video.😞
