The reason why BMW had such a following is because of the E38, E46, E39 era. that was pure perfection. I don't understand why they can't go back to that philosophy and make simple good looking cars?? why must their design always be weird?? It's always " you have to get used to it". why?? A good looking car is a good looking car the moment you lay your eyes on it.
It’s all part of the loop, eventually they’ll bring some of those designs back to keep people interested in the brand. Right now, they’re just appealing to impatient buyers or buyers who’ve already waited quite a long time.
Depending on where you live, the I4 needs a towtruck instead on an accelerator. I had and i4 -m50 for few weeks, but they're suffering the same thing that Ford did. Electrify America, for example in New Hampshire USA has 4 VW America charging stations in the entire state. The i4 -m50 at 100% which BMW doesn't recommend to do all the time, At 80% So, at 80% that brings the range down to about 215 miles per charge, and then there's winter - I was lucky to get 180 miles per charge. All of which is ok, if there's a DC fast charging network available, that's dependable and is actually has a network. That is not Electrify America, and apparently BMW agrees BMW totally forgets to mention that the CCS reliance which won't be replaced until sometime in 2025. 550hp does no good if you have to put the damn thing in eco-slug mode and shape that you can make it to the next DC fast changer, which , in Niew Hampshire, USA can be over 100 miles apart. The car is great, but it's all worthless if you can't get "gas" in the gas tank.
Great review as always! I agree. The material both inside and outside for a vehicle that is almost $100K is cheap. In my opinion, Honda has better interior quality. The following are several standard and optional features that we DO NOT get in the U.S. and Canada, but everyone else gets them. Even in India: • Digital Rear Climate Control • Front Massaging Seats • Automatic Soft-Close Doors • M Seat Belts • Integral Active Steering • 4-Wheel Steering • Front Passenger Memory Seats • Luxury Seats (power headrest, power leg extender, power side bolster) • Comfort/Multi-Contour Seats • Rear Door Comfort Access Overall Cost of EV Vehicles: • EV vehicles are about 22% more expensive than gas-engine vehicles. So, you pay a lot more from the start. • The auto insurance for EV vars is about 40% higher than for gas cars. • You must put “e” tires on the car. E tires are about 25% more expensive than normal tires. • The range is awful. Especially when it is cold. You can’t go anywhere. • It takes too long to charge. Time is money. • If the power goes out, you can’t charge your car. If you can’t charge your car because it's too cold or there is no power, then you need to walk. BMW needs to do better for a luxury line. In my opinion, it has come to nickel and dime. Very greedy. As for the Panoramic Glass Roof: It is awful that you can’t open it. How stupid. If you opt for the glass moon-roof, then you have to step down from the Luxury Package to the Premiums package. When you step down, then you give up a lot of options. Mercedes-Benz E Class Panoramic Roof opens!
I had a BMW, and you can't beat the riding experience. I had mine in Germany just out of the factory. I had that look Andrea has when she just accelerated on the open road with power. Eventually, I had to trade the vehicle in for a family vehicle.
I completely agree about the interior point that Zack made, the new 5 series is just cheap looking on the inside! There’s no warm feeling anymore, the bottom of the doors are hard plastic, and the ambient lighting is only in the front, unlike the last 5 series that had a cohesive and inviting, luxurious cabin. The new interior has too much geometry going on, it reminds me of the new Hyundai and Kia products, and so does the exterior. The X5 has the perfect blend of new and old BMW IMO.
Was going to leave a comment, but you said everything I was going to say, word for word, totally agree. BMW have lost the plot. I'll be sticking with my g30.
Another great review, what a duo. I love the 5 series, gas or electric. BMW understands their customers and treats them as they should be treated. The competition seems to take their customers for granted and their cars are just not attractive, I do not care for blobs or bubbles in design.
0:45 The flashing brake lights as turn signals are unacceptable and need to be illegal already. Why does BMW continue to unecessarily downgrade their taillights for North America like we're second class customers?
Of course I can never afford this car. I recall people complaining that if they went electric it had to have power. The naysayers said you can’t have that much power in an electric vehicle. Several manufacturers have proven them wrong. My guess with the Black Gloss is that because it’s the M Badging. As far as styling goes BMW has finally come back around without that enormous grill & slats for headlights. Several manufacturers are guilty of that. They assume people only live in the city. Forget the country folk who prefer the quiet area’s. Unfortunately, the deer season is a dangerous time. That’s when the loud stereo system comes in handy. Watching Andrea Drive is worth watching these videos. That smile says it all.
ZACK, I agree with you 100%. BMW used to design beautiful cars. They keep messing with the front end making them uglier than the last… AND, like someone said. “If you squint, the rear looks like a Camry” What’s happened?
From your Video, not liking the screen just stuck on the dash. Just bought a 2024 X3 and love that dash layout. For me the perfect blend of buttons and touch screen etc. Seeing the way these cars are going. Probably going too keep the X3 because of the dash layout. The exterior looks good for the i5.
Gimmicks, Gimmicks, Gimmicks. The hard-edged exterior really reminds me of the Hyundai Elantra. The overuse of gloss black plastics is inexcusable on a $100k vehicle. 😮😢
You beat me to it.....the gloss black bits (outside and in) really cheapify it. When are they going to figure this stuff out? And can't they at least shape the guage/info panel somewhat like Cadillac and the (better) Koreans? Radius the corners (or something!)
My humble Volvo plug-in hybrid, poor baby, only has 455 hp and 523 lb ft. I did save about $28,000 so I’ll manage to live with .4 sec slower 0 to 60. Worry free travel, worry free charging from a normal household outlet, that’s two more pluses.
Regen braking takes some getting use to, but when you do, it is great. It gives you more control which makes it a safer drive. I have a Tesla model 3, the Regen braking or one petal driving is one of my favorite features of driving the car.
An incredibly good review, guys. I could not agree more on your comments on the plasticy interior. Unfortunately this is the same everywhere in the meantime and compared to the competition it is leading in terms of materials and build quality. As a long and loyal Mercedes customer I was looking into the EQE and was shocked about the materials. If you are not ordering the hyper screen which is, at least not available, for all trim levels, the quantity of black shiny plastic is even worth, not to speak about the rest of hard plastic used by Mercedes on the center console, the lower dashboard and the lower half of the doors. Interestingly enough, Mercedes has not made the same mistake with the 2024 E-Class (W214). Besides the materials used, the build quality of the BMW is much better and less squeaky than the one in the EQE. Audi just introduced the new Audi A6 Etron in Germany and unfortunately they are following the same pattern with the shiny black and hard plastics. As a consequence and due to the superior driver’s assistance systems of the BMW I have just ordered an i5 edrive 40 which is, replacing a 2022 Mercedes S-Class (W223). In the S-Class you could already observe a part of what was described by you (in particular the center console and parts of the UI-panel’s for the seat adjustments and back seat climate controls are in black shiny hard plastic). I was first looking into a BMW i7 and the Mercedes EQS and while they are more (EQS), respectively much more (i7) refined in the cabin than the i5, I don’t want to manage any longer the sheer size of these cars as they are even longer than the S-Class. With the S-Class it was already tough to manage city driving and parking, as Germany cities have not adjusted to the increase in car sizes (leasing conditions btw in Germany for both cars are at the same level as the i5). My other option was the Porsche Taycan as Porsche offers significant interior upgrade options bringing it to the interior level, I was used to before. But besides the price Tag (160 kEUR with the options, I had picked vs. 105 kEUR for the i5 and non competitive leasing conditions) the drivers assistance systems are not on par with what is state of the art as well as the noise level at higher speeds is not meeting my expectations. As the ride quality / comfort with the new active suspension system offered by Porsche is at the same level with i7 and EQS and the efficiency / energy consumption matching the one of the i5 and EQE, I would have been willing to spend the extra money on the Taycan, but as somebody driving long distances at higher speeds on regular basis, I decided against the Taycan. I am looking forward to more reviews from you guys!
That older 7 series was a very long car. I loved those. I wish there was a way to determine the longevity of models like this. At some point batteries will not accept charging. Someone has calculated that....do tell 🤔
Oohhh You better watch your speed because you might burn the rubbers. 😆 Not bad vehicle and I agree the hard black plastic is not the best thing for any luxury. Great show Andrea! ☕️☕️
Great video once again. I won’t exchange my Genesis GV60 Performance for it. Overall the GV 60 is offering a better value for the money spent. The BMW logo is very expensive, don’t you think ?
Q: electric for city and hybrid for traveling distances? Recharge locations and charge rates concern me for longer trips: 3 hours or more. Your thoughts?
Shiny plastic ✅ Controls integrated in the screen ✅ Everything checks out on the "How not to make a car" list. The whole shiny black plastic brings that "sweet" GM vibe.Maybe that's what they wanted to do. Wondering if any of the BMW designers or managers ever listen to what ppl actually want or they simply go with the most "cost effective" solution and think "Ppl will buy it anyways We are BMW Our customer base cares more about the badge than the actual car" I am sure it drives like a charm and that sound system must be really good but it's the little details that make a whole
I couldn’t wait for this car to be released. Got rid of my Jaguar for this beautiful vehicle. It’s not stodgy and dripping in leather, but not an iPad stuck to a dash. Perfection. This will be my first BMW as I preferred other luxury cars. This one pulled me in, because of the tech and the light bar.
Is it true that people should be looking at the tire costs. With the torque and acceleration scrubbing of rubber and to find out most cry when they have to replace tires in 1 year.
All I see when I look at bmws are two giant nostrils lol I agree with Zach, way too much shiny plastic. Regardless, I could never afford one so…my opinion does not matter 😂
My 2019 X3 is the favorite car I've owned. I have few nonsense tech features. I am not interested in a new car. Too busy. Too much tech to intrude and eventually fail. Annoying learning curve. Stop the madness.
Test drove I5 M60. Love the interior and build quality. But driving it sucks. Hard pulls are so violent. You can lose control. There seems to be lacking with coordination between front and rear motors. Its not smooth and it kinda wiggles when it accelerate hard. Vs Lucid Air Touring.. Lucid has the electrive drive train down.
I just cannot believe that people are okay with those huge iPads glued to the dashboard. Super tiring on the eyes and the glare must terrible. These things give me headaches starring at them for an extended period of time
Tacky, tacky and... oh yeah, tacky. And the 4 competitors? This is what gen products look like. Overpriced, silly styling, basically a Gucci hand bag for the crowd that feels the need to show off. Also, why do Hyundai interiors look better than this?
Zack complaining about plastic is all just a hot talk after a ship that has long since sailed. Alas, unless you're buying a Rolls or Bentley you're going to see some and sometimes a whole lot of shiny black plastic. Tacky, easily scratched and despised by most it is spreading in automotive use like COVID on a tropical cruise.
To the person that wrote the first comment, you don’t deserve a BMW you’re a hater. BMWs are the most sophisticated looking well built luxury performance cars on the planet and you cannot beat them for the price tag. Compare them to prices of Porsche and Audi. The M-16 is with the tax credit and 1000 off MSRP is 85K any dealer will give you that offer to get a car with equal horsepower performance and luxury with an Audi or a Porsche you’re paying between 120 and $130,000.
iDrive 8 SUUUUUCCKS! The 8 shortcut buttons are gone. Climate control buttons are gone. Heated seats and ventilated seats are now have to be turned on / off in software. Manual turning on of low beam headlights and PARKING LIGHTS are in iDrive (on the X5), or crappy touch capacitive buttons on the 5-series. Was the turn-style headlight switch too complicated, for BMW? Even the HEATED STEERING WHEEL BUTTON is gone. Won't buy another BMW until BMW undoes iDrive 8 buttonless stupidity.
Zack not a fan👎👎 I have to agree with him about the exterior. Andrea looking good with coordinating with the car's interior👍👍. But I agree with her, 95K in Canada for a leatherette interior that crazy!!
I Do Not get how the Tesla Model S gets almost double the range, but these other luxury manufacturers Just Cannot (or do not want to) achieve anywhere close to that. Why would you pick the MB EQE with 250mi range and run out of juice so quickly, while the Tesla S get 400mi?! Same applies to the Porsche Taycan and BMW.
I leased 1 in November after 300 miles car broke on me, bmw took them 2 month to figure out even had German Technicians thought they fixed the problem took the car on the highway and broke down on them, then they end up getting me another 1 after 2 months and the range of this car suck come on all this Tech and bad range, used to have model y was good car but the suspension sucked driving in New York city streets with model Y sucked but at leased the range was 315 miles and with this bmw paying so much after the car broke I told the dealer I want gas car a 540i xdrive, and told them bmw I s not ready for electric cars yet. And don't Embarrass yourselves with a 5 series, and they refused to give me a gas car I told them this my last bmw ever this company has lost thier touch making a 95k car with 258 miles range Never again
The reason why BMW had such a following is because of the E38, E46, E39 era. that was pure perfection. A good looking car is a good looking car the moment you lay your eyes on it.
The 5 Series BMW doesn't look bad at all.
BMW is absolutely smashing sales records and attracting a wealthier clientele with their new designs. "Enthusiasts" aren't a lucrative market.
The head of BMW said they were no longer making cars for normies, they can buy a Mercedes
Because they are trying to appeal to Chinese taste.
It’s all part of the loop, eventually they’ll bring some of those designs back to keep people interested in the brand. Right now, they’re just appealing to impatient buyers or buyers who’ve already waited quite a long time.
"No one needs that acceleration"
The look on Andrea's face says otherwise!! 😆
Depending on where you live, the I4 needs a towtruck instead on an accelerator. I had and i4 -m50 for few weeks, but they're suffering the same thing that Ford did. Heck ya don't need a BMW either, You are not buying this out of 'need'.
I love the exterior and interior design. It’s actually the first 5series I’ll consider over the E Class
Great review as always! I agree. The material both inside and outside for a vehicle that is almost $100K is cheap. In my opinion, Honda has better interior quality.

My favorite car of all time was my 2002 E39 530i with M Sport package. I now wish I kept that car.
I can concur. Mine was a 2003. Calling it a sports sedan was not marketing BS.
It complements Andrea very well.
Saw it yesterday afternoon with a dealer plate dangling in the back. It was in black and looked very sharp. Nice slim taillight design.
I had a BMW, and you can't beat the riding experience. I had mine in Germany just out of the factory. I had that look Andrea has when she just accelerated on the open road with power. Eventually, I had to trade the vehicle in for a family vehicle.

Our EQS has a panoramic sunroof that both opens and comes with a physical sun shade!
The best couple in automotive journalism! 😊

Very satisfying review. Thank you!
We, the XGen, are a big part of the five-series customer base. I haven't met an XGen that enjoys all electronic controls and large screens. MHO.
$3500 tire replacement per year. Insurance about the same. Resale will be half in two years
I4 M50 for me. I wonder if we eventually see a longer warranty period for EV's as they are probably inherently more dependable.
Regen braking takes some getting use to, but when you do, it is great. It gives you more control which makes it a safer drive. I have a Tesla model 3, the Regen braking or one petal driving is one of my favorite features of driving the car.
Always excellent car reviews. Way out of my price range. How’s it perform in the cold weather ?????
Does it fail like all the others ?
Love how Zack is going "MAKE IT STOP!!!!"
In the mystery room at the “Dingo” plant in Germany BMW has created a $93.000 iCamry
I have driven it. It is fabulous
Just the steering is way too light for a performance car
I had e39. I loved that car : design, quality, driving
9:53 “there is fairly good legroom” are you serious? You are damn near locked in there like leg braces.
An incredibly good review, guys. I could not agree more on your comments on the plasticy interior. That older 7 series was a
very long car. I loved those.
I wish there was a way to determine
the longevity of models like this.
At some point batteries will not accept charging.
Someone has calculated that....do tell 🤔
Oh yes and Zack looking scared again in this video 📸 looking forward to it 🎉
I’m still gonna buy the X5 this year. I just saw the i5 in person. I wasn’t that impressed.
0:27: Instead of labeling it "Power", it could have said "Zack's life zoomed by" and we would have understood 😁
You guy are the best! Fearless, truthful but civil reviews. Agree with Zach, a gimmicky interior for such a sophisticated machine.
Nice sporty looking BMW, and the response wow. Thanks GUYS love the information have a great day.
Poor Zach! I think he just experienced a whiplash! Gorgeous car!
I don't get who the target market is for BMW lately? The car looks cheap inside and out.
Previous generation 5 series looked boss.
Those seatbacks look straight out of a city bus.
In person this thing looks amazing.
0:09 I even felt that and I'm just sitting here watching on RUclips.
This is the best looking Bimmer in a long time.
Hi guys great review as ever
Beautiful car. An interior with colour is a key box to check for me.
An extra speaker for us in Canada? Surely it's the same sound sytem as the US. 🤷
There is some nice tech but overall it looks like a large honda accord. 🇨🇦
Still afraid Zack when Andrea is driving 😅😅😅😅😅
Those prices! OMG!
will get my 2024 sonata next week. any review soon ? thanks!
Your own experience will always be the best review
I am not liking this new BMW design. For this price, I will choose a model S. Btw, is BMW still charging monthly subscription for heated seats?
No they are not.
This is like a baby i7 without the in your face styling. We have the gas 530i in Canada and cheaper by over $25k mrsp.
Did Andrea stop smiling during this review. If so, I must of missed it.
Andrea erasing 50 miles of range in the first 15 seconds of video. 😁
Agree with Zack……interior is gimmicky and tacky……makes car look cheaper.
Every automaker is doing shiny black plastic even though nobody likes it. It's hard to understand.
It’s to save… what $10 on every unit? Surely fake wood would be just as cheap, but it looks infinitely better
These horsepower numbers are getting ridiculous! Almost 600 hp? You really don't need that much horsepower in a family sedan.
True, and the new Tesla Model 3 Performance will have more power than this in a smaller, lighter, and much less expensive vehicle.
The best thing about this video is Andrea’s leather jacket 😍
The touring will probobly be the car to have, as always.
Correction, M 60 sorry for the typo
Chezzie and over price for what you get.
Is it true that people should be looking at the tire costs. With the torque and acceleration scrubbing of rubber and to find out most cry when they have to replace tires in 1 year.
I agree, but if you can afford the car…….
Most car companies name their cars after a race track, BMW, after a freeway 😂
All electric
Hang on Zac!!
Plastic Fantastic!
Is it just me or does the purple glittery accent look like a Las Vegas slot machine? “Look at me!!!!” Too flashy and in necessary.
Interiors now also look like casinos and strip clubs.
(not that I would know)
All I see when I look at bmws are two giant nostrils lol
I agree with Zach, way too much shiny plastic.
Regardless, I could never afford one so…my opinion does not matter 😂
There's actually quite a few of the luxury EVs that have openable sunroof. The audis and the mercs, the Volvo.
I think it looks good
*That's crazy*
any word on a NEW i3? the i4 and 4 series always comes at a premium for the useless hatchback. (the current i3 is so gross)
More bmw reviews
Compared to any Tesla interior this thing feels like a Roller.
Interesting EV agree with most of your likes and dislikes. I wonder how it will sell....
Looks like this was designed primarily for the Chinese market.
Most people don't understand how big and influential the Chinese car market is.
(understated and elegant isn't part of it)
Why so much power, give us modest power with longer range!!!
👍👍👍
Looks like they glues iPads to the dash
My 2019 X3 is the favorite car I've owned. I have few nonsense tech features. I am not interested in a new car. Too busy. Too much tech to intrude and eventually fail. Annoying learning curve. Stop the madness.
Exterior is a deal killer for me.
Andrea's got her heels on, so watch out!❤😊
Luxury these days means gimmicky tech, no longer classy.
No one needs this much power - ?! Booooo! I do. Though I would take a tuned inline 6 or the V8 over a battery on wheels any day.
I just cannot believe that people are okay with those huge iPads glued to the dashboard. Super tiring on the eyes and the glare must terrible. These things give me headaches starring at them for an extended period of time
@Motormouth......0...00 Sure. Np
The interior sucks. The way BMW is executing the shift to these tacked on dispays looks lazy and cheap.
This will be $50k in 3 years and have half the range.
And don't Embarrass yourselves with a 5 series, and they refused to give me a gas car I told them this my last bmw ever this company has lost thier touch making a 95k car with 258 miles range
Never again
you can never have too much power.

What are the exterior and interior colors? The I4 is great if you don't care about your rear seat passengers. You want gimmicks, review the I7.
