The speedometer is absent in the final game. -It seems that instead of the rollerblades of the final game, you would've been able to use Soap shoes for both running and grinding. This was likely changed to make way for the dismount system in the final game. -Combo counter would've been at the top left instead of at the bottom of the screen. Also shows the exact point values of specific moves. -'Rush' meter that is entirely absent from the final game. -Rep counter shown at all times in its own stylized box as opposed to showing up in static white text after a tag like it does in the final game. -JSRF style tag icons for graffiti spots. Graffiti minigame UI is also simpler, with no indication of which nodes to hit next (possible that all graffiti would've been unlocked at the start). The final game opts for yellow outlines for any untagged graffiti spots. -The gang shown in the Millennium Mall section is completely absent from the final game. Whether these were an early version of an existing gang or just one that landed on the Cutting Room Floor is unknown to my knowledge.- EDIT: on closer inspection (and an 'oh duh' moment), these appear to be an early version of the Devil Theory gang, having a similar coat design and the same 4-thruster boostpack. -3v1 race sequence. While the final game does feature races for certain gang member duels and character side quests, none of them have you racing more than one rider at a time.- EDIT: I completely forgot about the 2v1 race in Mataan, but unless there's another optional race I'm forgetting, that's the sole instance of a non 1v1 race in the final game. 3v1 is still absent. -While most of the locales have notable differences (different flooring in the Mall, Mataan being way brighter), Brink Terminal had a completely different color palette at first. Why the color was changed from yellow to neon green is unknown. -4 node Graffiti prompts were instead rectangular instead of diamond-shaped for some reason. Curiously, some of the 4-node graffiti designs in the final game, notably the Franks design, feature that dot formation in their designs. -Speaking of the Franks, it seems like they would've been in charge of Brink Terminal instead of Eclipse, as the enemy graffiti is the Franks designs. It's likely that either the gangs wouldn't be relegated to a single zone like in the final game, or that there were far less gangs than we have now (as we also see Frank graffiti in the early Versum Hill). -Chain turrets originally had a white coloration, where the final game gives them a black design with yellow stripes. -Curiously, the default Spray Color was a deep magenta color here, while in the final game it was changed to Yellow. Likely changed due to the cans themselves being yellow.
(Just a little addition) -The chain turrets also have a canisters over the cuffs that disappear when they grab onto the player. -The font used when talking looks more like the one used in JSR.

I prefer the 1st games tagging more as it gave more to do than just racing, so this is looking like the perfect mix of futures smooth controls with original JSR's style & experimentation
This looks far more interesting than futures tag system. u can tell that once you’ve mastered the patterns you’ll be able to do it quickly, and it just looks more intuitive.
The benefit of this system is that hundreds of combinations are now possible. Theres probably an insane amount of tags you can execute anytime, and really quickly if you remember the patterns
I really liked the graffitis that you have to tag while grinding or mid air. So if there are small quick tags I'll be fine. Otherwise its kind of a flow killer to stop all the time. But maybe it works for this game, gonna buy it no matter what tho haha All I really need are some hideki tunes while I rebel against the government
I remember getting the Sega double pack with Sega GT/JSRF and i've been waiting for a sequel to JSRF for so long. Hope this fulfills my long awaited wish
I greatly underestimated JSRF, it ended up being a fantastic game and it took awhile to complete. I even unlocked all the special characters, it was just that good.
I literally just stopped playing JSRF, shut down my og xbox, logged on to RUclips and this was the top video. To say that i'm seriously hyped is a an understatement.
I hope it will be easy to dodge them, since I've never played a Jet Set Radio game before. But it looks like if two of them handcuff both your hands it's instant jail time, reminds me a little of GTA 5 with some platforming elements
@@derple8524 .....why do you think you'd need gameplay experience? Hell the jet set games already had super simplistic gameplay anyway so you'll be alright

It's interesting to see the differences between this build and the final release, like how there was at one point supposed to be a "rush" mechanic. Or that for some reason the Rep gauge looks more final than the final game.
Gameplay looks great, the city looks awesome and the music is pretty chill. The Radio DJ though feels a tad underwhelming, it may just be that the tone of voice just doesn't seem to match the words. Still looking great though looking forward to the game.
If I were to add, she sounds...detached from all that's going on. You'd think for someone witnessing an underdog madly dashing into the territory of established gangs would get a tad bit more enthusiasm out of her.
Just as another said, if she is to be the radio DJ i hope they mix her vocals behind the game a bit. Streaming radio quality isn't THAT clear. I don't need her talking over my shoulder!
it might just be a trailer thing. having a more excited voiceover wouldnt mesh well with the low-key tone of the music used here, i think. personally i think she sounds cool but i get where youre coming from
Honestly, I would love for Sega to go in a different direction. Jet Set Radio is a really unique game and it would be fantastic to turn into a wider genre. This game looks like an unofficial sequel to JSR. Maybe Sega could go a bit more off the walls with theirs.

So cool actually playing the final version and seeing what the stages initially looked like in this trailer, being able to recognise Millenium Mall, Brink Terminal and Mataan all from the layouts in trailer despite how different the textures look from alpha to final. So Cool!
Two of the areas in the trailer reminded me vaguely of JSRF, one reminded me of Shibuya Terminal and the other Dogenzaka Hill. Whether or not it's intentional, I couldn't care less. I am so fuckin' hype for this game!
@@DoctorSour not only that but the music composer for JSRF, Hideki Naganuma is going to do music for this game. So basically this is a JSRF 2 that Sega punk ass refused to make. What’s funny tho is Sega can’t do shit and I hope they choke on regret when they see the sales.
I’m in the camp that believes they don’t really need to do things exactly how jsr did it. It’s already so similar that any differences they have is probably for the best, if they’re going for a more chill vibe then I can get behind that, especially when u hear the ost is also very chill.
@@SquidwardProfilePic Definitely do not need to do it the same, but that doesnt mean this change will work. It is afterall a fast paced, colourful game with a lot of character - not sure that type of commentary will fit.
This looks so amazing and super cool, but if this voice acting is a part of the game I hope you have your actress do it one more time, maybe it is how it is cut up or maybe it is how it is read, but it sounds like she is reading from a script. That said I lover her voice and I love the take you are trying to make with her on the JSR DJ.
Looks like there's a meter building mechanic where the more you grind around corners, the more it'll fill out. Reaching max capacity will boost your speed allowing you to slide longer. Makes for an interesting Mario Kart style speed boost. Level design looks more open than JSR which is a good thing cause my only complain about that was how easy it was too get motion sickness due to the tight space and making the camera fly all over the place. Looking forward to see more gameplay mechanics and changes from the OG series.
The little orange bar is a speedometer and the blue bar is a boost meter. You can see it fluxuate during actions and similar to Sonic Adventure and Heroes, curving your weight towards the bend of the rail is just one of the many methods to maintain your speed
That meter is a combo gauge, doing tricks fills it up, grinding is considered a trick. When you fill up all the letters in RUSH, you get infinite use of your boost, for how long is unknown.
So… JSRF? (I totally agree with you, but I’m obligated to be annoying and inform you that JSR did get a perfect sequel. Either way, this game will be amazing)
@@spyroevan I know about it, and it's great but the more the merrier (also, in future you don't have time limits neither so much military after you so idk, that kind of bothered me a little. The original is more fun to me, and this one seems to be a combination of the two)
This is so beautiful, Ive been waiting for a game like this for literal years, one of my favorite franchises getting a spiritual successor and that same successor is already exceeding my expectations! Thank you so much Team Reptile, cant wait for this game
I like the look of the tagging system. Looks like it's fusing the technique of JSR and the swiftness of JSRF. Very hyped for this, which is something I rarely say these days!
dude this looks amazing! it seems like it takes the best of both jet set radio games and mixes them into one ultimate game. the open world style, the trick system, and hiring recruits on the stage itself are from jsrf. while the more quicktime oriented/hands on approach, the more floaty movement, and actual visual style of the game is definitely the og. i was worried it would take some of the nasty parts of either game but this really seems like the definitive “jsr” experience, since it’s not very easy to get your hands on an og xbox and a jsrf disc (but emulation is a thing, and also the 360 can play jsrf… but i suppose that’s also emulation lol), and the og jsr isn’t very newcomer friendly.
It seems to have taken some notes from Hover as well, with the better air control and on-foot gameplay, leading to an overall tighter experience. Hover stumbled when it came to level and mission design, as well as with it's story. but BRC seems to be sticking close to JSR's design, learning from Hover's _mistakes_ as well.
So far, it looks perfect!! The exact thing i'd expect!! My only, and a just little request, is, hope we can do our custom graffiti, and also, can download the work from around the world
Ok, after seeing the trailer, at first, I thought, that the running mechanic looked slow and dumb. Then, however, I looked back at it again, and I actually saw that it was a FANTASTSIC element. Because of the running being slower then other moves, it forces you to stay on rails and do tricks in the air for speed. It wants you to make combos, not for a dumb point system, but for a more fun experience. Having this is INSANELY great game design, by making you work hard and practice for a better time playing. That sense of gratification from practicing is gonna be so nice to feel. This is gonna be fucking epic, and I'm definitely gonna pick this up on day 1.
Just realized the composer is the same guy who did Jet Set Radio. No wonder the music is so on point. Team Reptile, it'd be really damn cool if you'd release the full OST on RUclips or Spotify when the game comes out. I'm really looking forward to it.

@@TheDumontShow Kinda seems like Sega is Nintendo b!t*h now. I don't know what is going on with Sega at this point. All I can say is I'm happy to see something similar to JSRF come back.
@@KamiKoroshi_ well, when you have Nintendo selling Genesis controllers with their logo on the box, that's when you know Sega is indeed that. That's crazy to me. Sega sits on IPs that could make them mountains of cash. They have more IPs than Nintendo but they sit dormant, with them doing nothing. Phantasy Star and Skies of Arcadia could have easily been their answer to Tales and Final Fantasy. I can go on down their list.
@@TheDumontShow same. The have a rich selection of IPs that are not Sonic yet dont use them

I'm torn because I preferred JSRF's quick tagging. Drawing shapes rather than simple rotations with the stick looks interesting though.
Really looking forward to this. It really looks like a proper spiritual successor. It's been almost 20 years. It's about time!
I prefer the 1st games tagging more as it gave more to do than just racing, so this is looking like the perfect mix of futures smooth controls with original JSR's style & experimentation
I think it's more just "put your stick in the direction of the next point", so it'll still be pretty quick to tag.
Hope this fulfills my long awaited wish
literally same
I greatly underestimated JSRF, it ended up being a fantastic game and it took awhile to complete. I even unlocked all the special characters, it was just that good.
i notice just now after finishing the game fully 100% that there was some heavy change after the trailer
I literally just stopped playing JSRF, shut down my og xbox, logged on to RUclips and this was the top video. To say that i'm seriously hyped is a an understatement.
Rocket propelled hand cuffs might be the single most clever thing I’ve ever seen in a gsme

Shibuya Terminal my guys!!!!!
I had the same thoughts
And that first hill where the the dude was sitting on the bench looks VERY close to Dogenzaka Hill....which is also the first mission of JSRF.

I like what you did with the graffiti segments, striking a nice balance between JSR's more involved quick time events and JSRF's overall faster pace
Not only that but the potential options for graffiti are very many, and you unlock more as you find them scattered through the stages
literally crying tears of joy
everything is perfect and fits my taste
thank you a lot for making this game
I'm right there with you yo
Interested in seeing more of the tagging system, I always felt like it was a letdown when JSRF switched to "single-press-and-done" tagging. This looks awesome and I love the chill track!
jsrf was more fast paced with music that fit that kind of gameplay, this game kind of in the middle of both games with how you tag
Yeah I liked how in jsr the smaller tags were one tap sprays but the bigger, more complex, graffiti tags allowed for a thumbstick mechanic
Dude JSRF was boss asf
I feel like this system is going to be a really nice blend of both JSR and JSRF, the quicker directions will keep momentum better than JSR but will be more impactful/satisfying than the smashing right-trigger of JSRF
@@manashortage3805 in earlier trailers don't you do these bigger tags midair as well? Maybe it stops you for a second then throws you back into the action
I was just a kid when I played JSRF and it was probably my favorite game. Beat the story with almost every character...seeing this 15 years later as a young adult brings me tears😌🎧🔉🔊🎵🎵
I can’t wait to fly like a butterfly in this game! Team Reptile, you guys rock!
I can't wait to buy this OST the moment it comes out.
It's interesting to see the differences between this build and the final release, like how there was at one point supposed to be a "rush" mechanic. Or that for some reason the Rep gauge looks more final than the final game.
Someone’s bound to make a mod to resemble this UI. Maybe even tweak the health bar so it’s onscreen with it & doesn’t regenerate
This will be the only game in my life that I'll preorder. Screw Sega and bless team reptile for making our dreams come true.
You'd think for someone witnessing an underdog madly dashing into the territory of established gangs would get a tad bit more enthusiasm out of her.
i hope she laughs at you if you drown
yea we need another professor K
Just as another said, if she is to be the radio DJ i hope they mix her vocals behind the game a bit. Streaming radio quality isn't THAT clear. I don't need her talking over my shoulder!
it might just be a trailer thing. having a more excited voiceover wouldnt mesh well with the low-key tone of the music used here, i think. personally i think she sounds cool but i get where youre coming from
Looking back on this now that the game is out, is so strange seeing how much has changed!
Damn if Sega Ever makes JSR 3 I hope they can collaborate with team reptile this I just too good !!!
Honestly, I would love for Sega to go in a different direction. Jet Set Radio is a really unique game and it would be fantastic to turn into a wider genre.
This game looks like an unofficial sequel to JSR. Maybe Sega could go a bit more off the walls with theirs.
GOD EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS GAME IS GIVING ME LIFE

Two of the areas in the trailer reminded me vaguely of JSRF, one reminded me of Shibuya Terminal and the other Dogenzaka Hill. Whether or not it's intentional, I couldn't care less. I am so fuckin' hype for this game!
Looks almost spot for spot like Shibuya Terminal! I’m so hype for this game ever since yesterday

This brought a tear to my eye. I'm really hoping this will be the spiritual successor to such a forgotten series.
It also reminds me of the The Warriors DJ.
I need some ENERGY!!!
I don't mind chill DJ vibes, but the way her lines are stringed together in this trailer make her feel almost detached to what's happening
@@SquidwardProfilePic oh damn I didn't even think of that. That is some SSX tricky type stuff, love it.

It’s funny when the commentator said “words is he lost his head, he might come for yours next” makes so much more sense now that the game is out
The way you transfer between rails and wallrides is PERFECT.
I like the look of the tagging system. Looks like it's fusing the technique of JSR and the swiftness of JSRF. Very hyped for this, which is something I rarely say these days!
i wonder what the rush gauge originally was going to do
@0:55 , That is totally Dotonbori, even with the running advert and giant bridges. GOD I can't wait for this game.
dude this looks amazing! it seems like it takes the best of both jet set radio games and mixes them into one ultimate game. the open world style, the trick system, and hiring recruits on the stage itself are from jsrf. while the more quicktime oriented/hands on approach, the more floaty movement, and actual visual style of the game is definitely the og. i was worried it would take some of the nasty parts of either game but this really seems like the definitive “jsr” experience, since it’s not very easy to get your hands on an og xbox and a jsrf disc (but emulation is a thing, and also the 360 can play jsrf… but i suppose that’s also emulation lol), and the og jsr isn’t very newcomer friendly.

I'm playing The Pathless right now and it does the exact same thing! You're totally right, it's great design.
@Metal Sign in jsrf you're supposed to grind through most of it, that's literally how you have to get to most spots by linking grinds
hopefully they add other ways to get around as opposed to just grinding on shoes. game looks great tho
To me it looks like the running speed is fast, but the grinding is sluggish. The difference in speed looks so minor
so sad they didn't keep the running style grind
Yo wait this footage was from a SWITCH? This game is OPTIMIZED BEYOND BELIEF!
Just realized the composer is the same guy who did Jet Set Radio. No wonder the music is so on point. Team Reptile, it'd be really damn cool if you'd release the full OST on RUclips or Spotify when the game comes out. I'm really looking forward to it.
While Naganuma is composing for the game the ost will also feature other artists as well. The song in this trailer "You Can Say Hi" is by Soia.

Come back here after beating the game and I can say my only real disappointment is that the narrator of this video does not represent an in-game character and that there is no equivalent to DJ professor K.
Honestly yeah, the one flaw in an otherwise amazing spiritual successor. On the other hand I do like that there is enough that’s different to make them distinct from one another
